  1. Should be noted that among those found so far within the shell companies were also Spains former Kings sister, a Front for Pyongyang's nuclear ambitions, David Cameron's dad (who hasn't paid a red cent in tax for over 30 years), Fifa, The boss of an anti-corruption org in Chile, the PM in Pakistan, King of Saudi Arabia. So far nothing major seems to have hit with a US citizen (although several Americans passports were in the documents because the owners were using shell companies to buy property in Latin America.
  2. That picture and your avatar... remind me of the scene from the movie where they poked fun at "An inconvenient Truth"
  3. OK, lets try this then. For the sake of discussion lets say you and I represent different groups of delegates. Using the current Constitution with all 27 amendments as a model (as in editing not re-writing lock stock and barrel) lets see if you and I can come to any agreement on a new "revised" Constitution. I'll go first: Omit clause one of the 2nd Amendment. The new amendment reads "The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed". Repeal the 17th Amendment Add the following line to the end of the 5th Amendment: "Private Property shall never be appropriated for private use or other purposes except the general use and benefit of the public" Edit section 8 clause 18 of Article I to read: "The Congress shall have Power ... To make all Laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into Execution the foregoing Powers, and all other Powers vested by this Constitution in the Government of the United States, or in any Department or Officer thereof. Said powers are limited only to those specifically assigned in article I. Can you define for me "General use and benefit of the public"? Does that include Yosemite? Disneyland? I mean having something like a factory being put in place, or a freeway system for the benefit of the general public would fall under that even if the people who own that land feel infringed. It may not be a direct public benefit, but the argument could be made that the business coming to town and providing a service or jobs that are direly needed in the area would outweigh some guy in a shack who happens to own the best place for [item]. Already you're creating interpretations of the constitution that will clash in court and be forced to have interpretation.
  4. To be fair GD. The process to amend the constitution is incredibly slow and requires a REDICULOUS amount of effort on the part of the people. Not saying it can't be done, but it's designed so that it can't be changed on a whim like Californias state constitution. At the same time the document was not envisioned at a time when you could go from Nepal to London to Vegas in one day on a (very fast) aircraft. Words and meanings change in 200 years. Our debate about the idea of a "militia" being totally different in the modern era to the one that the Constitution was drafted in (where Militias made up a vast majority of the defense forces of the region, vs a professional army) is just one example of how this can, and has, changed. And yes, we can amend the document to adjust it to suit modern times, we are living in a world where the NRA spends Billions to convince people like you and Vas that background checks mean "THey're coming for your gunz!" We can't have a proper educated discussion about this due to the interference of these specific groups who will convince a minority (but enough) people of the most ludicrous things to prevent any changes from being made. I will say a part of me finds it hilarious that we hold up a document that was written entirely by an Aristocracy FOR an aristocracy as being "the greatest thing of all time". (Do you seriously think a dock worker in Boston cared two whits that the Black folk he was unloading from that ship counted for 3/5ths of a person politically to the man they were being purchased by?)
  5. Oh crazy Frank Miller... Each character is shaped more by the person who's writing them rather than the publisher. For example Tony Stark has been recently portrayed as a Bill Gates figure who buys out the Marvel version of Coke so he can distribute vaccinations using their system. But the thing is Marvel heroes never actually "win". They can't in those situations because it would disrupt the status quo to much. I would suggest reading Kurt Busieks "Secret Identity" for a damn good superman story (although it's not in the main DC universe), and for an alternate take, J. M. Straczynski's Supreme Power.
  6. We start on 20 days leave and we get about 15 days sick leave ? But I seldom take sick leave and I take time off when I work overtime so I normally get about 20-30 days leave To give you context. As a new hire with Hertz I started with 5 days of paid vacation and 5 sick days paid (with five floating holidays). It's based on how long you've been with the company (I bump to 10 vacation on my second year). But at McDonalds etc it's just "oh you want a day off? Hope you can keep your rent going!" Dude thats really bad IMO? McDonalds does not consider itself a long term employment option beyond the executive level or franchise owner level. The majority of it's employees are part time and for the most part are young. They are not going to trouble themselves to put up a competitive benefit package for a workforce like that. Nor should they. You'd be surprised. There's actually a pretty good insurance package for the management there, it's just rarely used.
  7. I checked my bank account and realized that I'm actually up almost a grand. Woo Hoo! Although I'm not sure having 55 hour work weeks is worth it.

  9. Just gonna point out that this isn't "a thing" in America. After 10 years in the work force I finally got my first job that has this thing called "Paid vacation" and "Paid sick days."
  10. I think it's this more than anything. Assuming he doesn't have a Palin style screw up (my grandpa reportedly said "They just lost the election" when she was announced) he'd be moderate enough to woo the swing voters across party lines while still keeping the base around. Yes he may have a few "despicable" (according to viewpoints) pieces of the agenda under his belt, but then, everyone does. If Clinton were to find a magical Charisma switch in her brain and flick it on, she'd probably sweep the election at this point. I still maintain that she would be the overall best executive of the current lot due to her past, and Bernie has forced her to be significantly more liberal than before during the course of this election. Unless Bernie can perform an amazing turn around she's pretty much got the primary locked up. And before Vas or WoD say anything about "Dems criminal charges doe!" I ask you this... where are they, and why are we hearing that the reason for any potential security breach wasn't because she was being high and mighty, but rather because the branch of government she was a part of (at the time) refused to accommodate their boss and allow secure mobile access (as they had with Condi Rice)
  11. What? In most places with a prime minister local elections are separate from national elections. I think what you mean to say is that the legislature elects the government. You are correct sir.
  12. I love the fact that a system error in the DMV is automatically attributed to "Somebody's rigging the system!" Also http://www.snopes.com/cuban-refugees-clinging-to-air-force-one/ Why would party affiliation be stored in the same database as driver information? I ask as a Canadian where political parties have their own member database rather than the government holding it. Down here, the DMV is basically your one stop shop for any form of registration. Either there or the Post Office, as both are the primary ways the government knows where you live and your primary form of interaction with the Government. For the most part the DMV is where most people register to vote so they have to have that info on file. And yes, the parties do have their own lists of people behind them, but for the most part the federal election commission goes by the DMV selections people make, rather than by what the parties say. Ahh, leadership races here are a party thing not a government thing. The parties organize the leadership elections rather than Elections Canada. I guess if the government organizes the election it makes sense to register your party affiliation with the government. Basically yeah. In both Britian and Canada, and most places with a Prime Minister, that Minister is selected by who wins the lower races. So at the national level the political machine is firmly entrenched, but reliant on who wins the local senatorial election. In America, I could vote for Steve "Can't get pregnant via rape" King locally, but Obama on the national level.
  13. So they plan to select John Kasich if it's a brokered convention? I am not well versed in lawspeak, but from i gather it could be practically anyone, even those that have dropped out. Kasich would be their best bet if they wanted to win the general election. Although their unpleasable base would prefer Cruz at this point, with Marco Rubio being the Joke option.
  14. I think at one point the boss at Gawker had specifically said that if Hogan won, Gawker would go out of business because of their inability to pay. Admittedly it's kinda hilarious in a certain light because their entire premise (clickbait articles with an agenda) came back and bit them in the ass when they pushed the click bait and saucy journalism because they thought they were "right", only to find out they were wrong. Specifically I'm betting they thought they could get away with this and get the public on their side because Hogan wasn't a giant crowd favorite and had some demons in the past. Thus "taking down" the villian (in their view) would be akin to being a super hero... never mind that the law disagrees with them!

  17. Well, it popped up over Des Moines so it seems like it'd kick over ORD. And yes, I refer to cities by airport codes... blame my work system (Chicago O'hare's Hertz is ilord10). Other news, I got a pay raise effective tomorrow. And hopefully it'll be a double raise to 14 and Assistant Branch Manager but who knows.
  18. Am debating applying for an Area Manager position with a janitorial services group. Never heard of em, but I do know that it'd be a significantly better job than where I'm at.
  19. The Acura RSX I was talking about earlier.
  20. Bought it last Wednesday. I still haven't gotten around to opening the package because I'm obsessed with upgrading my gear in Destiny at the moment. ... Basically it seems like it's similar to Destiny in all the right ways. Mechanically it's probably one of the best shooters I've played in a LONG long time, and the audio design is... crazy. It honestly feels like what we were promised Watchdogs would be, without the GTA hijinx of cars etc. It does get a little tedious if you're unwilling to group however. Also I think this should be censored somehow.
  21. It's really not that bad. Unless you're going out into the unpopulated area's most locations that get snow are gonna be plowed pretty soon after the snow.
