  1. You are not forced to take Auras. It is possible to fully avoid taking auras. Your first choice on creation is Flames of Devotion or Lay on Hands. Your next choice is between whatever you didn't pick, and three different Auras. So if you pick Flames of Devotion first, then Lay on Hands, you can go aura-less. Currently, you are probably pretty well off not taking Auras, anyway, because Auras are "Combat Only" modals that automatically activate whenever combat starts, forcing your character to do the activation animation, making sure you're not getting into position properly or is capable of using your power(s) when combat initiates. o.O I didn't know that - i hope they'll work on it ... Though i think in a longer fights (bosses, large groups of enemies) its still more beneficial - esp when you have many party members who can benefit from this aura (mostly melee party).
  2. I was wandering whats the best way to be the most deadly - choosing talents, equipment and enhancements improving your: base dmg, crit rate + crit multi, attack speed, penetration, attribute (might) or else? In some games eg crits are well balanced and in some it su.cks. Whats best to choose for our character in PoE? PS: And question not related, but i dont want to start new topic just for it: Are wizards in high levels getting the low level spells per encounter instead of per rest - or was this idea dropped along the way? If its still there - from what level is it starting to work for tier 1, and what highest tier will benefit from it at max level?
  3. Isn't pal getting bonus area of effect to their auras from int? from usual 3m-4m to, well ... more than that ...? + he gets improved duration on his buffs such as Reinforced Exhortation. At least i think it works like that.
  4. IMO paladin is what you are looking for. Priests are mainly casters so if you equip him in heavy armor his casting time will suck + casters should stay in the back becouse of interruptions. Chanter isn't warrior at all - mostly supporter/summoner. Cipher is warrior/mage - he uses mind spells, but he needs to power his abilities by fighting in melee - though he's not tankish at all. Besides even if you are not focusing on your companions from role-playing view - you must still command them, and if you dont like heavy casters, you should assemble such party that you will be happy with.
  5. That is funny because in both NWN1 and NWN2 well build warriors dominated the battlefield by a mile. In NWN1 HotU my Fighter/Weapon Master killed anything in one round, no caster could do that.In NWN2, Barbarian/Bard/Dragon Disciple was just unstopable and dominated everything. Or any build that focused on critical hits murdered enemies much faster than any spellcaster. Early to midgame maybe - later on casters were much better as far as i remember.
  6. Unless anything changed : http://pillarsofeternity.gamepedia.com/Weapon_Focus_Peasant PS: Sorry - Missed the first part of your post xP This can be deleted -.-
  7. Hi, i have few questions concerning several talents: 1) Envenomed Strike - is this talent applying to magic weapons (weapons which attacs with magic projectiles - rods, wands, scepters) as well? The description http://pillarsofeternity.gamepedia.com/Envenomed_Strike - would make it a bit weird. 2) Two weapon style - http://pillarsofeternity.gamepedia.com/Two_Weapon_Style - are rods/wands/scepters all two handed, or is it possible to dualwield them? Dual-wielded wands would be quite cool 3) Talent groups like Greater Wildstrike Burn/Corrode/Shock/Freeze , Wildstrike Burn/Corrode/Shock/Freeze, Secrets of Rime/Spirit of Decay/Heart of the Storm/Scion of Flame etc - choosing one element will prevent us from taking another on the next "talent level" or in case of druid during spiritshifting we can actually inflict up to 4 additional elements?
  8. Yea, but we don't know how the entire games looks, and what kind of enemies awaits us. There can be bosses out there which may inflict crazy dmg or have plenty health - and the fight will last a long time - or there can be some spots with hordes of enemies, where one tank wont save us without the help of the priest. And as far as i remember, the potions are present in the game, but they are not that easy to obtain - are basically rare-ish. So it would be nice to hear from some dev about it.
  9. Well few months ago having priest was a must, but now i'm not so sure. I've heard that the game isn't as deadly as it was before - either by correcting the bugs connected with interruptions and such or just by lowering the difficulty level (??) ... or both. I'm struggling with this choice (having priest in my party) myself - as i like to play dmg oriented party - so dmg dealers and buffers/debuffers/crowd controlers, but no healers and tanks - but sometimes, as said before, it's simply a MUST.
  10. IMHO the skeletons should have animation when appearing either as they're coming out from the ground or the bones are assembling together with some light orb coming inside of them symbolising the soul put into them, and the animation at the end, as the bones just fall on the floor. As far as "realism" goes - the skeletons can't/shouldn't be "summoned" (even if the spell description say so), but "animated" (the necromancer or other magic user are putting the soul into the bones) and as far as i know it also corresponds to PoE lore. "Summoned" can be creatures that lives in another plane (unless the spellcaster has a skeletons army in his cellar and is "warping" them into the battlefield. Well, at least i see it that way ...
  11. Thanks It's the shame in my opinion - for players which are going to play many times in this game at least. Different accessible gear can change playthrough quite a bit - i liked random gear in NWN.
  12. Word "realistic" in the RPG have a bit different meaning - closer to "probable". Appearing of the "elves, magic, resurrection" in the alternative universe is "possible" - and there is no way (for now) to prove that it's not - kind of like a GOD - some people belive in HIS existance and some dont - but none of them can prove it. In case of the "rotten zombie bones" being humans favourite food - well - "rotten" means its old and generally bad for your health (xP), "zombie" means its undead, "bones" means its hard - it is doubtfull that it would taste good in any universe to any humanoid (though in cases of extreme starvation or mental problems some may take a bite xP).
  13. Container items are generated randomly during c. opening or they are always the same? Obviously quest items and same specific eq will be in specific places, but what about the rest?
  14. Yea - but PoE wiki wasn't updated since 25 october ... What?????? I mean that wiki. Enjoy with tones of lore Yea me too - look at the bottom of this page ... under "Category: Browse" ... And eg. most classes has their skills described till level 8, and from videos i've seen high level skills are known for quite some time ... EDIT: Oh nvm - i thought this info was about entire PoE wiki page, not just main page ... Well - but my point about skills still stands.
  15. Well that depends on which class/race will i pick, as well as what background will i create for my character. Eg. at my first playthrough i will have Aumaua Wizard (mystic), who makes rational decisions and worships Wael. On my n-playthrough i will make Death Godlike Paladin from the Bleak Walkers Order worshiping probably Rymgrand. My elf archer will worship Galawain. My Nature Godlike druid will worship either Berath or Hylea. My rogue will worship Skaen. Barbarian - Magran. Warrior - Woedica. Priest - Ondra/Eothas. For the rest whatever will be left and/or will fit
  16. Hair, if not cut, continues to grow and becomes long even in males, you know. Not sure what the asterisks are supposed to be. If you're talking about the antlers, they're bifurcated: short forwards, longer backwards. If you're talking about the chest, I'll let you in on a little secret: both men and women have pecs, nipples, etc. This guy doesn't even look like he has gynecomastia. But yeah, it is inhuman-enough to be hard to nail down one gender or the other from it. Ain't nothing wrong with looking androgyne either—in fact, seeing as the godlike are seen as sexless in some nations, it makes perfect sense. I was talking about chest - men obviously have pectoralis muscles - though unless he has gynecomastia, i've never seen perky nipples in males otherwise. And i've never seen in the games (other than japanese franchiese - which is separate case) that characters had some kind of disease which wouldn't be connected to story somehow - and since this obviously can't be connected with it - i doubt that. Though it's impossible to know for sure, unless we find and ask person who created this pic what was on his/her mind - which (finding this person) is unlikely. Though its not that important - it is role playing game and anyone has the right (bah ... even should) - create his/her own character with the background he/she wants this character to have. I was merely expressing my opinion on the subject.
  17. Are you sure its a male portrait? It can be just me, but i see there small **** and long hairs ... Well at least at the big pic - at small one there is no way to tell.
  18. Well, i hope that they will balance them a bit more. Do rogues have such good dmg? As far as I noticed, they were good at inflicting statuses, but haven't noticed significant ammount od damage. Thats not the point - the point is that developers were raving about how balanced the classes are - and since they are not it's a bit of suprise.
  19. Hi guys I've played recently in beta at my friends place, and i've taken a quick run with all classes and i must say i feel a bit baffled - since the first time i've heard about this game i keep hearing that the classes will be well balanced - as far as i noticed monk is much more superior in terms of damage output and survivability, than other classes. I wont compare melee characters to casters - as this would be poinless - mages should shine in dmg dealing and in cc and die easy if not played correctly - and they are just like that in PoE, but warriors/zerks and rogues looks pale comparing to monks IMHO. Monks have crazy fast exterminating skills and thanks to them they can kill foe before he can make them some significant damage and he is actually pretty good at tanking too - i found it much easier to tank with him than with warrior which is strange, and comparing with the rogue the diffrence in survavibility is just insane - rogue is almost as easy to kill as mage - and since he is considered in this game more as "dirty fighting warrior" than a "thief" it seems a bit weird. Well, but thats just my feelings from playing brief moment in beta - if i'm wrong - enlighten me and please set me at ease
  20. I just hope that all abilities will be usefull - there were many games with high level cap and plenty of skills to choose from, but most of them were pretty useless - good balance of skills is the most important + the variation of skills (depending of which one you choose - there will be more tactical manoeuvres you could use). PS: Though a little higher level cap would be a good thing - i'm thinking lvl 20-25 ... well maybe in the sequel
  21. As far as i know you can change language at any time. I've watched many videos from beta version and translations were in early stages - so there is no way to tell - but hopefully you will be able to play in your language subs (if they'll be bad you can always change to english xP).
  22. collaborative checks sounds bad - idiots with low "lore" can't figure out complicated task - even if there are 6 of them. At least thats my way of looking at this ... Collaborative effort is how a lot of scholarly teams work these days. Everybody brings different strengths to the effort, so the whole is stronger than all the individual contributors working separately. It's not unrealistic to do it this way. With a computer it's easy enough to figure out the effective odds of a skill check with multiple contributors. Just figure out the odds of them all simultaneously failing the check (which is the product of their individual failure odds), then subtract it from 100%. Your high skill character is still going to dominate the odds, but they will receive a small bump from the others. i ment that eg 6 persons with skill level 2 solving task level 12 souns unrealistic - though same ppl doing task level 3 or 4 is ok - read attentively, as we already resolve this xP
