Movies you have seen lately
You should try Bringing Out the Dead. I think you'd like it and it's a class Nicholas Cage film. I just got back from watching Cloverfield. I'd like to be generous, because it tried to do a number of good things. 1. no sappy ending. 2. no explanations of the bigbad. 3. some nice destruction shots 4. Some really creative camera-work to make the best of a low budget But there were several things that went horribly wrong: 1. I was expecting to get tired of the camera work, but I felt really ill at several points. There was no need to have it ALL shot badly. In fact I thought it detracted from the drama of some points. 2. I loathed and despised all the characters except the cameraman. Particularly the spoiled rich kids. Mainly because... 3. Disaster movies are supposed to have panicky imbeciels in them. But define the entire film around panicky imbeciles? 4. Lessons learned: 1. If you live in Manhattan, you should practice evacuating the city at least once a week. 2. Ideally, when visiting Manhattan, carry an emergency radio, first aid kit, crowbar, and life vest AT ALL TIMES. 3.

US Presidential Elections
If it was her on purpose I think it was a damned silly idea. Yes it will turn off a number of voters, but frankly they'd probably turn against him anyway. In the meantime she looks like she can't even play straight within her own party. I think being petty plays worse than doing a photo op.

The beer thread
Well, I doubt I'll ever like Miller Lite, but I've enjoyed a Rolling Rock on a hot day. I also enjoy quite a few American micro beers. It's great to see then making progress in the last few years against the big boys.

Most exciting thing to happen this year
But shouldn't freedom for the individual include the option to believe in a God and a religion? This is an important step, which will attempt to remove anachronisms, and locally relevant (no-longer relevant) advice from the Quran, leaving ideally just the words of the prophet. This would be an excellent step in further marginalising extremists. Indeed, it is something which Christianity coud do worse than to consider. Last, but not least, I think it rather undermines the misperception that religions are uniformly square wheels in the machine of progress.

What you did today
Feeling antsy, so went for another run. Don't normally go on consecutive days. Feels pretty good though.

The beer thread
Gentlemen, let's not get snobby. If the beer is more refreshing with lemon in it, then let it be beer with lemon in it. After all, if we disallow that then I won't be allowed to put steak in the neck of my Newcastle Brown ale.

Direct action protests
My sister made my parents promise not to buy meat. My brother and I went out and shot our own. Curiously, she was not happy.

Pakistan blamed for YouTube Outage
Madam, spamming a legitimate discussion may be considered approaching from a divergent angle. Spamming spam in the interests of highlighting the spam, is no more or less than spamworthy. Even if the spammed spam was ironic spam rather than standard spam, which might be thought to render the spam doing the spamming of the spam legitimate, it is still superflous spam, or true spam.
