  1. Sorry, Raithe. But while I may smile indulgently at people trying to paint Normandy as apolitical, I think it completely misses the point. The war in Europe wasn't just another war. And the sacrifices made weren't apolitical. They were acutely political, and the men landing that day were acutely aware of that fact. D-Day was a tipping point in history. One day. A handful of beaches and bridges. Most assaults hinged on the actions of only a few men. None of whom felt the way to influence history was an art installation.
  2. I'm detecting a wee bit of a pro-Euro trend on here. I can't speak for most anti-Euros, but I personally have a problem with being dragged into a polity which is electing far right groups, and which has known issues with financial accountability and bureaucratic inertia. If you can't sell the Euro plan to me, and I'm well traveled and like the other Euro nations, then don't blame more parochial people for being less keen. It's not them being racist. Your pitch sucks.
  3. I was going to post a pic of Sienna Guillory, but I can't find a good one.
  4. There isn't a podcast ever made which can compare to a girl you've never met before unexpectedly kissing you.
  5. While I entirely agree with you, it's a bit bloody late in the day to be trying to add requirements.
  6. Well, that's kind of the point, isn't it? I for one would like to know where all the thousands of peace protesters who were clogging up London for Iraq are now.
  7. Did someone ...say racist?
  8. Go to the party. What the **** have you of all people got to be afraid of?
  9. It becomes aparticularly ludicrous when you aren't even talking about the same people. It's like me bieng allowed to stab zulus because my great great grandfather was killed by one.
  10. Amendment: ...also part spambot.
  11. 'Social justice' is people trying to 'balance the books' without the faintest idea of what is in the balance or what it weighs? How much is a ten years of 'being denied the vote' measured against a ten years of 'given third tier schooling'? Is 10 minutes of 'children throwing rocks at you' more or less heavy in the balance? How many years of 'sitting one different bus seats' would you need to balance all three? It's gibberish.
  12. It's not really ridiculous. It's a carefully orchestrated propaganda campaign by a man who is looking increasingly like your average banana-republic oil dictator.
  13. I think every white male peasant in history would disagree with you there, old boy.
  14. After the steaks yesterday I didn't eat anythig else all day. Simply wasn't hungry.
  15. She does have a godlike torso. Even if her face seems oddly passionless to me.
  16. Have you never heard of deep fried butter?
  17. Part Russian. Part Transvestite. All troll.
  18. look, I think we need to be clear. We knew even before Greece joined that there was no control built into the Euro. The Financial Times - a news-stand paper - said as much. If it hadn't been the Greeks it would have been someone else. You can't have any system without control. Unless you're a deranged politico who thinks we'll all just get along by being nice.
  19. perhaps a more nuanced approach would be to suggest that this was an issue which deserved an editorial, not a cartoon.
  20. Feelgood Friday thumper.
  21. t-bones belayed because music practice over-ran. Eating them tomorrow. I wouldn't have a sauce at all, for these damn t-bones. You want the natural flavour to come out. I'll probably rub them with coriander seed and a little paprika tomorrow when I take them out of the fridge, and coat in oil. Let them warm up to room temperature for about an hour before cooking. Just serve with salt on the side, asparagus, and some plain potato. Good fearless red wine, like grenache.
  22. Got some big t-bones and red wine for tea.
  23. The story here isn't a racist cartoon. The story is how the governing party is taking the history of oppresion and death in South Africa, and using it as a 'get-out-of-jail'. That's offensive.
  24. Noting: how exciting and energising adolescence is, with all its changes and growth Question: Are we changing constantly throughout our lives, and always becoming someone different? Subordinate question: Should we therefore expect to be both excited and confused ALL THE TIME?
