Very true, well said Walsie. I've been fortunate enough to never be alone at Xmas but I wouldn't enjoy it I can guarantee you that Then you've missed my point, old boy. Why be upset? If one were a true Chrissian then you'd feel kinship with God and Christ on that day. Pretty decent company. And if you aren't a Christian then why give a hurtling purple f***?

The Hobbit was the first book I ever read. I taught myself to read in order to read that book. Jackson has done a bloody good job.

I agree as far as it goes, but consider how the Chinese do business. They couldn't care less what Putin's domestic or foreign policies are. Because they see Putin's Russia as exactly what it is: an oil kleptocracy, like Nigeria.
I agree that is it not wise to be overly simulationist in setting up the rules for a gaming night. I generally aim for simulation first, then break off any protuberances that don't look fun. There should always be some set of logic involved which the players could agree with if they knew what was happening. You just don't need to explain it all. Our medieval medic (chirurgeon) makes three rolls when he has to treat someone: diagnose, operate, and bedside manner. Diagnose and operate go hand in hand, but a bedside manner success/fail is what governs either repeat business or being allowed to try again. Moderated by appropriate roleplaying, of course.
I assume a 'bookend' skill check for the dancing. If the dancing is unfamiliar then they need an intelligence check to establish the right steps. A fail means they will struggle in the main check, which is a dexterity/ initiative check (depending on the dance). Finally, the need to make a performance check to see how well they carry themselves. Basically, a fail cascades, but can be brought back on track by a later success. Successes early on don't carry over. This makes it very hard to be impressive, but very easy to avoid looking like a total idiot.

All good, except for the love of God stop drinking Chivas. It really isn't any good. I don't mind Chivas, but it wasn't my choice anyway, it was a gift. If it was up to me I'd be drinking Dewars 12 Year Old Special Reserve, but I'm not about to just pour the Chivas down the drain. And before you tell me to drink <Name of Single Malt Scotch>, no, I prefer blends. If that's Scotch heresy then I'm a heretic. /shrugs A man who is happy drinking piss has no need of good wishes.
Thought you chaps might be able to reuse some of the colour from a campaign I'm running. I've edited it down to save needless bits for your own work. The videos are essential to paint the picture. Do give them a listen at least.
