Playing early on in Wolfenstein: The New Order. I'm probably still in the tutorial stage of the game. A lot of shooting/killing, very little story being fleshed out at this point.
-
Hmm. Okay. I used to ignore the Arkfalls altogether because I knew I'd just get lagged so badly I'd have to restart my XBox because everything would freeze up. Which sucked because you got a lot of XP and loot and stuff from completing Arkfalls. Arguably the easiest way to level up.
-
Is the lag still an issue? Especially during Arkfalls, the lag was ridiculous. Also, it's good they tweaked the ability to get stronger as you go up in levels. It just seemed so dumb that someone who'd dedicated months playing the game was no more of a threat to kill an enemy than someone who literally started playing that hour.

Has much changed? I haven't played Defiance since last summer. I got bored with the fact that you don't get "stronger" as you level up. So I never felt I was actually being rewarded for all the time I put in. Some newbie scrub who just logged on for the first time had just as much of a shot at killing something as I did.

It was 7 years in the making, but I finally beat the endboss in Gears of War! All these hints online about using the sniper rifle or using the troika, and it ended up I was able to do it by simply using the default assault rifle (lancer?) to damage him after the torque bow and grenades got rid of his Kryll swarm.

In isolation, the Citadel DLC would work as an epilogue. But in the context of the rest of the game, IMO, it didn't make a whole lot of sense. Setting up a shore leave party for your crew while you're desperately racing against time to stop the Reapers from destroying Earth? If they'd somehow worked the story where they could fit the DLC after the red/blue/green choice, then I could see it. As it stands, it kind of stood out as a weird thing to do in the middle of a universal catastrophe.

Heh, did the Gears of War developers get massive backlash over the endboss Raam from the first game? I just finished the second game, came to the final "boss fight" and after hitting it with three or four Hammers of Dawn, the credits rolled. I was like, wait, what? That's ... it? After the controller tossing-induced battle against Raam in GoW1, I was absolutely shocked at how utterly easy the ending of GoW2 is.
-
The varied combat difficulties in Gears of War remind me a lot of the complaints of the differences between regular combat and boss fights in DX: HR. I'm absolutely mowing through the regular slugs in GoW, then suddenly the boss is near impossible in solo play.
-
Gears of War 2 seems much better (so far) than the original. Or maybe I'm still pissed at the final boss fight and am sour on the entire game because of that.
-
The story was kind of nonsensical, anyway. It also didn't explain a lot of stuff in-game. It was almost like the game picks up midway through a story without giving its audience a heads up about what came before.
-
I gave up on trying to beat Raam and just moved on to Gears of War 2. Nothing sours me on a game more than when suddenly the boss fight goes against pretty much everything you were taught to do in the game to "strategize" for the tough fights.
-
you can cheese it, while the boss is being distracted by your team, dash for the minigun at the back of the car, one burst will finish him off I've tried the minigun. It doesn't seem to do any damage (and yes, I know those kryll have to be away from him for him to take damage) and next thing I know I'm dead because he fires at me.
-
Now I remember why I gave up and never finished Gears of War. That final boss fight on the train. So damn annoying, and goes against everything the player was "trained" to do throughout the game.
-
I must not have paid much attention the first time I played Gears of Wars. Everything apart from the tutorial seems new to me.
-
I'm so bored with nothing to play that I'm tempted to play through the entire Gears of War series. I'd only ever played the first game. Never did get around to 2 and 3.
-
Play it on the lowest/easiest possible difficulty. I'm far from the worlds best "twitch gamer" and, like you, can't really be bothered to learn the subtle nuances of the combat systems. But I had no real issue with breezing through combat in the Witcher 2. The only one that gave me a bit of problem was that giant thing with tentacles early on. But then I read a few online suggestions on how to beat it and it wasn't difficult at all.

NWN2 is definitely a contender in my book - especially the roleplaying servers. But honestly, I think a lot of the Obsidian games because of their focus on story are just as appealing to women as to men. Sadly, I couldn't get my girlfriend (who is an avid player of computer games) into the BG games. I did try but she felt the gameplay was boring and the character abilities for rogues (her favourite class in RPG games) were too limited. I don't think these boards are really representative of the Obsidian fanbase anyway. I know a lot of people who have played Obsidian games and who have never even so much as glanced at these boards. Speaking of NWN2, could a reason those female gamers who play that never post here be as a result of those forums being linked off-site? Similarly, the FO:NV forums aren't on this site, either. So if a female gamer is interested in chatting about those games, chances are they just go to those specific forums and won't venture into, for example, this general discussion forum. I don't know. I'm just speculating as to why there might not be many female gamers posting on here.
-
Have Obsidian's games really been geared toward what female gamers tend to like in games? I don't really know that they are. You have to keep in mind that a developer's forum will usually be filled with gamers who play that developer's games. As a general point, you're not going to find Halo fans or Grand Theft Auto fans posting on here about those games. Other than the rarest of exceptions, the people you'll find posting regularly on here are those who are fans of Obsidian games. Which goes back to my original question. Of the games Obsidian has made, which appeals to a wide audience of females?

I really hope Watch Dogs delivers. It's one of the few games I'm looking forward to in the next couple of months.
-
Yes, you know. The ones that are dead and don't try and attack you. Because they are dead. What if they're just playing possum? Undead possums?

I officially suck at anything action-related. I keep getting killed early on in Dark Souls. I'm barely out of the tutorial and already my guy keeps getting hacked to death by undead skeletons.

Finally got around to trying the original Dark Souls. Too early into my playthrough to decide how I feel about it. I probably chose the wrong starting class.
