  1. No, not really.
  2. Thank you.
  3. Incresing difficulty doesn't increase XP gain. IIRC, the XBox360 version was developed in house. The PS3 version is a port of the PC version by a different developer. ... actually, I don't know. Either way, the PC version just has so much more going for it. Just because it's a genre convension doesn't mean it's good. I recall Quest for Glory as being light on the combat.
  4. I find it as boring as I do in real life. Swearing is only good when it shows a bit of originality and I find it distasteful. Duke Nukem saying he would rip off an alien
  5. We know what the console alterations are on the XBox360. Does the PS3 have the same limited [whatever] that meant enemies have to come in waves and you can't zoom out?
  6. It feels very much like a PnP game directly translated to the computer. The skill balance is bizarre and it
  7. There was originally but they dropped it for some reason. I don't know did they give any particular reason for that. They didn't like it.
  8. In a new interview at MMORPG.com, Mike Landlaw said there were 'just shy of a dozen' full companions. At the moment, we know of nine. A look at Dragon Age Here is an interesting quote: I see the BioWare staff is still defining High Fantasy as happy, prancing elves.
  9. I've played Knights of the Old Republic on Vista without issue. Then again, I played it on Windows XP without issues, and supposedly there were a slew of them.
  10. Here's the thing for me, while many seem to think combat is important, I just think of it as a grind to get to the content. Yes, there are times that I enjoy it, times I find it frustrating, and times it's obviously flawed, but it's only in fighting games (think Soul Caliber) that it's ever more than a means to an end. I understand on some level that combat is important to several of my fellow forumites, but that didn't sink in enough for it to ever occur to me that it's information you'd want. To some extent, I wonder if the marketing types for BioWare are the same way. When they learn that gamers are interested in combat, they assume it means you want to see videos of the PC beating the crap out of stuff and not detailed mechanics.
  11. The developers started talking about the gambit-like system about two year ago. I mean, it has come up several times on the BioWare forums and a few articles I've read, but... Combat is boring. Mechanics are boring. I try to provide you guys with interesting stuff. I never imagined someone would want to hear about combat slots and AI scripts. I feel a bit guilty now. It was a very good article though. I knew a bunch of it in general, but the little details were nice.
  12. You don't always hit your target. How often you swing is determined by weapon speed, dex, and whether you're duel wielding or not. If you hit is a combination of dex + weapon talents + situational bonuses + other bonuses - their defense value. When you hit, damage is determined by dex or strength + armor penetration + weapon damage + talents - (armor values + resistances) You get one piece of DLC: The Warden's Keep. You can also get that through the game itself. On the other hand, the items in the physical CE: steel case, cloth map, and making of... DVD, aren't easily available. Personally, I prefer something I can touch.
  13. If it's horror it might be fantasy, science fiction, or neither. That said, publishers have tried very hard to make horror its own category instead of having it mixed in with fantasy and science fiction. The more categories you have, the better your sales.
  14. My Worgen Rogue is sweet. I love Ms. Fluffykins.
  15. The qunari have cannons, but your PC won't be seeing/using any handguns.
  16. Yes. Yes. Totally. In fact, BioWare is going to change the name of the mage class to OMFGPWNU! And they've replaced the mage staff with the Fatman.
  17. 1) Tali is in. 2) The asari in the car is Seryna.
  18. Wikipedia suggest so: English longbow length.
  19. I never found Left 4 Dead an especially scary game. On the other hand, I'd hate to be in a pick-up game with an eight-year-old. I caught this post by Chris Priestly the other day about the PC delay.
  20. Nope. I hate it all. (Is always confused when someone addresses MC)
  21. The dalish elf origin is about as boring and generic as can be. You're an elf. You quest to find a magic mirror. You pass out and wake up with strong, manly Duncan cradling you in his arms. You go back to the magic mirror. Oh noes! Dorkspawn! You join the Grey Wardens. Even if you think it's a complete Braveheart rip off, 'human noble comes to have his way with the bride' is far more compelling than 'it's a magic mirror.'
  22. Game genres like survival horror are not purely defined by their gameplay. A genre is simply a collection of tropes that the community finds meaningful and there are no rules as to what a community finds meaningful. If I call Mass Effect a Space Marine Shoot 'um Up, and enough people do the same, a genres been created. Mass Effect is now in the same genre as Doom and Halo, but not Half-Life or Stalker. People on message boards around the world can argue about whether a SMS'umU requies some time in space and if a game with some gun combat but mostly melee qualifies. There are tons of elements that seperate Mass Effect from Diablo, but they are both action RPGs. There are tons of elements that sperate Dracula from My Little Pony, but they are both horror. Combat is the main part of many RPGs. I'm playing Drakensang and Betrayal in Antara right now and both of them have tons of combat. It's the same with Wizardry 8, Morrowind, and BG 2. A good RPG lets you do stuff other than combat and lets you develop your character in ways other than your character sheet, but it's not necessary. Bloodlines is a fairly well received RPG around these part, but I never felt that I had any control over my neonite
  23. An Action RPG. Genres are broad. That's why we can call Lord of the Rings, Dracula, and Alice in Wonderland fantasy despite them being very different in content and tone.
