I can support Cass but have a lot of issues with most of the other humanoids : - Boone is overpowered and playing a sniper with Boone as a companion is not very good for me. - Arcade is ok for the few I've seen him. - Veronica. I don't really appreciate her attitude. - Lily is exhausting when sneaking, she says the same sentence every 30 seconds. - Raul. I've not really tested him, but didn't feel attracted by him.

All skills get a bonus of luck/2. I didn't know that agility affected reload time.

Outside of sneak attacks, Luck has a big effect on criticals, specifically with a weapon with a big critical multiplier. You can effectively head shot and score more criticals against a close opponent. Luck also affects all the skills and gambling luck. To me, it's far better than agility. Ex : you use a sniper rifle with x5 crit. With 5 luck and the berret, you have 10 base crit, thus 50% of critical strike. With 10 luck and the berret, that's 15 base crit and thus 75% of critical strike.
-
It increases the critical hit percentage. Depending on the weapon, it can change odds. For a sniper build, I use to favorise as much Luck as Perception.

Freezes seem to disappear after the introduction of the d3d9.dll fix. Weird since that for the first 80 hours of game, I didn't need the above mentioned file.

Sorry for double post. I've suddenly a lot of freezes in the Ultra Luxe Casino. I don't see what can be the origin, though.

If you've been to vault 11, then you can enter : setally 1267AB 0001B2A4 This solves an issue of having Vault11 turrets sharing the same faction as the securitrons of the Lucky38 (courtesy of FalloutWiki)

ED-E has words that trigger audio messages, but I think there is some delay betzeen the trigger and the message. I think the second or third message is an invitation, so you where to go. I've also used it for almost all the game but a very short period where I used Rex. I like its small music when it spots an enemy. It reminds me of some old pc games battle musics. I'd rather use weapons that don't share the same ammo because the unique gauss rifle I'm using is killing my stock of MFC. 4 MFC per shot is a lot. But in the end, I'm almost only using it. The perk 'pack rat' is very useful when in hardcore to carry ammo, food, water. The effect can go up to 50-100 lb of weight gain.

With a sniper kind of character, I just use ED-E and Cass. It makes a good team. EDE-E in detection and Cass in short range with a shotgun. But Somehow, I can't manage to avoid them chasing targets and be killed if outnumbered (thus, reload). The "pacific" stance seems a bit too agressive for me. For soft target, I would get a gatling laser instead of a RCW or tri-beam. That makes a good compliment with gauss rifle since you avoid having the same ammunitions for the different weapons. Edit : RCW uses ECP, so that would be a valid choice.

72 hours into the game. Still doing some sidequests Just obtained a power armor training recently and feel a bit safer. I find the world pretty dense and appreciate that the 'dungeons' are smaller than in FO3. I think that money is a bit too easy to earn, maybe because I'm playing an easy character. After having bought 5 implants I have still 40k caps.

I don't know why people in Beth forum say that energy weapon are underpowered. I recently found a unique gauss rifle which rocks, named YCS 186. It's in the NW part of the map, not far from where one of the caravan of Cass has been attacked. Problem is that I had to wait before using it since it was broken beyond useage and couldn't use a waepon repair kit on it (you have to carry the weapon to use the kit). Thus I had to find another gauss rifle. But wow. So powerful, I'm killing almost anything directly and the weapon is scoped. A bit slow as a contact weapon, but very effective. Main drawback : munition cost with useage of 4 MFC per shot.

I remember when playing FO3 that at some point in the game, I had a crash every 10/20 minutes. It was linked to Jefferson memorial and the door of Rivet city market place (with a timer to be closed or open). All I know is that the only solution was to revert to an older save and use the console to teleport inside Jefferson mem for the main quest then outside and completly avoiding the surrounding area. Do you remember when you began to have all the crashes ? Was there a script in the vicinity ? Could you test loading a save before the crash occured that frequently and see if you can avoid the crashes or reproduce the issue by going to the same place ? It would certainly help if you could find the origin of the crashes.

Like already said, consoles are like PC nowadays and with OS and hardware failures (chipset, board,...), one can't expect to have bug free softwares on consoles. The only thing that consoles avoid are hardware incompatibilities and the advantage of console is that testing a soft on a console is closer to all other consoles of the same type. I don't really understand though why people still use Xbox360 and PS3 which are really outdated and not cheaper than a PC of the same power. But it's everyone's choice after all.

Well, so far I'm only three hours into the game. I've had a blue screen as the only major issue. It's been almost ten years I haven't had a blue screen, that's fun and reminds me of the days of the instable and unprotected OS (win 98).

Still 45 minutes for me.

The quality of video games has declined over the past 10 years.

I think a good comparison would be with the movie industry. You can see the mainstream of Hollywood movies with lots of epic/drama/special effects/lame stories and dialogues on one hand and on the other hand, movies that have some depth and real value in itslef (whatever the kind of movies, even action movies can have an artistic value). I don't think this is the end of good games, just that the market is evolving toward a mass industry market that requires us to be more attentive to the good products that may be less advertised, less visible but can be true gems. Like the movie market. -
a/ Definitely not difficult compared to G2. Only on gothic difficulty, perhaps. So, you are right. b/ More than 90% of the quests seem to only have one solution. Only in the first big city the main quest allow some choices. c/ Not as bad as what I heard from the demo, but too much split into areas. There is some exploration in areas, but you can't wander very far. So if what you like are only the three points, you won't like the game. Just test it by a friend or rent it for some days, maybe. Or buy it when it will be at 5 euro. Just because it's still enjoyable, there is nothing tedious and there are some good moments.

How is Arcania compared to Risen ? Pretty close, but with less choices but a good rythm in the game. It's still inferior to Risen, but not by far. Risen is inferior to Gothic 2 for me. I can't say the game is excellent, but it gives me the desire to play and I've not been bored by it after around 35 hours of play. Oblivion "light" ? Maybe, depends what you mean by that ? I've stopped playing Oblivion during the quest to close all the red portals to Oblivion, it was too repetitive. I don't regret having spent my money on it since I enjoyed almost all the hours I've played Gothic 4. But it's not really a Gothic gameplay, it has the setting of Gothic, the lack of armors of Gothic, the NPC of Gothic, an entertaining story, but not much more. For 20 euro, it's ok. For 30 euro, it depends on your budget and for 50 euro, it's too expensive.
-
I've tested the Gothic mode. It seems to be just a higher difficulty than "difficult". But I'm not the best to judge since I'm not really good in real time combat. Overall, I think that 50 euro is too much for such a game, but if you happen to find some 20% off or more, it is nonetheless an entertaining game with interesting mechanics closer to an action game but with at least some stories. To compare a bit, I felt Oblivion was boring and repetitive with broken mechanics. This game seems to me better than Oblivion, but it remains a matter of taste.

Yeah, it's less smooth, of course. But it's not as linear as Fable as it's been compared. After the reviews, I was a bit afraid and can't say it is as bad as reviews seem to imply.

I've been playing Puzzle Quest 2 recently. Fun game, not much differences from the first one, a bit more balance between classes, maybe. But I've only tried barbarian and sorcerer. I've heard assassins were a bit overpowered, though.

Hmm, I don't remember this. What did you have to do in Gothic 2 to open up what areas? I was under the impression that it was all open, but you wouldn't have a snowballs chance in hell of getting past those high level enemies strewn everywhere with your level 2 character. First, you had to enter Khorinis by getting farmer clothes or any other way. Then, you needed something else to open the gate to the valley of mines. Then, there was the end area. But of course, the area are pretty big and the chapter presentation allow for new content put in old areas. So the split was less geographical. In Arcania, it is a bit more artificial.

You can explore pretty much you want. The only thing is that there are limits (barriers) to area you can visit depending on the advancement of the main quest. Much like in Gothic 2. There are roads you can follow, but you are not limited to it. Also, you can go back to the previous areas. The first city is really well designed as a middle age city built on a hill. A lot of stairs, circonvolutions. Dialogues are not that bad and you can often said more things after some quests are completed. Diego and Gorn are back. I don't think there are a lot of changes in the exploration area from Gothic 2 where you had to do things to open new areas. Maybe a bit more cut in parts. I will try it and let you know. But I'm not very good at Gothic combat system and had a lot of issues in Gothic 2 in the beginning.

There is an auto patch updater with the game, so no worry about getting the patch.
