  1. It's sort of calling me gay, isn't it?
  2. One of the most memorable things about that song was the Nina Simone sample. Rhymefest - Tell a Story.
  3. Black Ice - Hoodwatch!!.

Big up, my man. Good luck. (Cursory as... hell... I know, but I mean it all the same.)
  5. Cat Stevens - Tea for the Tillerman. Outkast - ATLiens.
  6. The Rodrigo Garcia episodes - I'm sorry, I don't know who shot them - contained some of the best looking scenes on TV; I hate to say it, but: breathtaking (uh, spine-tingling?). Holy... Jesus ... was this a fine looking show. Surprisingly enthralling, too: I watched both seasons in 3 or 4 days. Also, Kor: maybe it's because I viewed it over such a short period of time, but I didn't find it particularly confusing... more like - oh, God - intricate. (Oh yeah, the first Tracy Torme episode was ridiculously predictable, though; kinda left a bad taste... screw that guy.) (Hmm, I used to be - really - into Sliders when I was a kid.) Last Week 10 days: The New World Wonder Boys L.A. Confidential The Shape of Things Hollywoodland Lord of War Sneakers BASEketball National Treasure Save The Green Planet! The Wicker Man And The Sopranos.
  7. Black Ice - Nice2MeetU; arguably the worst jive ever; Mos Def's weed carriers score more tang; also, while I kinda like a few tracks on this LP (The Death of Willie Lynch), I still don't really consider slam poetry - I've actually watched some Def Poetry Jam, this guy wasn't that, uh, bad... compared to rest - hacks over half-assed - worse than the stuff on the second Saul Williams LP, if more conventionally hip-hop - beats a good idea.
  8. 2Pac - Life Goes On; the closest Pac got to brilliance, next to having Big sleep on his couch (and chilling with Tim Roth - uh, or maybe not). Jay-Z - Can I Live; I remember reading in the Village Voice about his Reasonable Doubt ten year anniversary concert; dude hauled an orchestra - surprisingly, from what I've seen on youtube, it seemed pretty cool; I wonder if it's been released on DVD. Binary Star - Wolfman Jack; if I remember correctly, One Be Lo's first album was also pretty good.
  9. Uh-huh. 50 Cent - P.I.M.P. If ever you needed someone, I'm the one you should call I'll be there to pick you up, if ever you should fall If you got problems, I can solve'em, they big or they small That other **** you be with ain't bout **** I'm your friend, your father, and confidant ... BITCH! (Sadly not in the remix.) Ridiculous. Neil Young - Old Man.
  10. You know, I'd probably find that funnier - sadder -, if was, like, uh, hip to the context; what's that song they dubbed over it? Biggie Smalls - Ready to Die. Camp Lo - Luchini.
  11. Has anyone seen Paprika? (The new Satoshi Kon film; it's getting good reviews.)

That Steve Martin novel, The Pleasure of My Company. Uh, The Last Night of Love, The First Night of War (Ultima noapte de dragoste,
  13. Max Romeo & The Upsetters - Chase The Devil; Yeah, I admit it, I only got this because the chorus was easily the most interesting thing on that Jay-Z song... Lucifer.
  14. Gogol Bordello - Santa Marinella; I can't really listen to this album anymore, I mean, I liked it - loved it (intermittently) - the first 10 times or so, but this stuff gets stale pretty fast. Jay-Z and Eminem - Renegade; Nas was right; also, the beat is rancid.
  15. Little Children Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind Saving Silverman Jules et Jim Storytelling Four Weddings And A Funeral Nacho Libre The 51st State Love Actually The Holy Grail American Dreamz Little Miss Sunshine Little Man Oh, and this Creedence Clearwater Revival DVD.
  16. Damon Albarn & Michael Nyman - Boyd's Jounrey.
  17. See it - the film pretty much achieves its aims brazenly -, but, like, be sure to be well-rested. Five minute shots of nothing but mountains and blokes walking can be a bit of a drag at 2 AM - really. It also has this hilarious scene where Affleck gets his dumb ass stuck on a rock. Or when he just keeps talking about almost beating this video game... uh, Civilization? Caesar? I haven't played either... something about conquering Thebes, actually. Anyway (same caveat): Cache The Station Agent Sexy Beast Hot Fuzz Auto Focus Undercover Brother I'll Sleep When I'm Dead The Girl In The Cafe From Hell About A Boy Snakes On A Plane Ghost Rider Asterix And The Vikings
  18. Since there's basically no way I'm gonna cover - uh, write about - the films I've seen since I last posted (in this thread) (I lack the zeal, really), here's a list (visceral enjoyment + quality, or whatever): La Haine Kind Hearts And Coronets A Bittersweet Life The Limey Goodfellas Following Stripes Code 46 The French Connection Raging Bull Made In Britain Everything Is Illuminated Gerry After The Rain Withnail & I Excalibur Mighty Aphrodite Nurse Betty Lancelot du Lac Zazie Dans Le Metro Osmosis Jones Click White Chicks The Longest Yard Evil Dead New Dragon Gate Inn
  19. Um - way to go, Hurlsh.
  20. I'm your burger, you my fries! No, seriously: Sleater-Kinney - What's Mine Is Yours.
  21. Cage - Stripes.
  22. Well, both novels share a similar outlook on the nature of war, I think, though the way they treat it - and spin the narrative around it - is decidedly distinct. (Get Something Happened, too, while you're at it - spring's a wonderful time for middle-aged angst.)
  23. It, um, like, isn't.
  24. Yeah, that's not wholly true - he basically starts touching upon it halfway through; and as far as women are concerned, he details their measurements.
