  1. Fleshing out their personal relationship is fine, but the way they did it works better when you have a season of 13-24 episodes to work with. When you only have 4.5 hours it starts to feel more like extraneous fluff because it could be done a lot more succinctly then they've been doing it. Edit: To repeat myself, it's not that it's not quite enjoyable, what they're doing. But when I watch something called Sherlock, I typically want to see the "great mind" pitted against some intriguing/mind-baffling mystery ... that which attracted me to the Sherlock stories/mythology. Not a humorous romp about relationships.
  2. ....never heard of it (or that there's another one coming), and doesn't sound like I'd be interested in it even if I had. And not because of any boy-toy visuals. Not really into Hollywood treatment of Greek mythology, except Ray Harryhausen. I had/read a lot of ancient myth children's books as a kid...always seemed to be the types of chrs. that work better on paper than the screen.
  3. I've never even heard of 95% of the titles that made the final list, but that's not surprising, since that's my norm with such lists. Although I think a few of the indies are in Steam Early Access now, so I may have seen titles/vague descriptions from there. Not enough to really make an impression, however.
  4. Send me some, so I can try it and then tell you how much better (my shop's) beef jerky is. ....actually based on what I've seen around the web, I'd probably like it all right, depending on flavor/spices and moistness (I don't tend to like moist jerky). But I have a feeling I'd still like my thick US jerky more. I get pretty stuck in my ways.
  5. Bah. Need a new game. Or a new hobby. Re-arranging furniture on a weekly basis doesn't count. Bringing science into it, that's no fun! ... I think I'm just going to blame my cat. He's probably putting hexes on me for not feeding him in a timely manner. Yes, that's it.
  6. Ok, I watched Intelligence over lunch. I don't think it gave me a b-movie film feeling so much as a 90's sci-fi show feeling, only with better CGI sequences (when they try to show the "net-computer" brain working) and camera lenses. I think the main problem - outside of the concept being rather 1-note gimmick - is the lead actor (or his chr) doesn't have much charisma, far as I'm concerned. Better than a stick of wood, but not by a whole lot. He's a handsome enough fella with some quirky lines to say, but doesn't engender much beyond that. By that I mean, for me, O'Neill *was* SG-1, (not to take away from the rest of the good SG-1 cast which bounced wonderfully off of him), and without him in a leading role it was never the same. That's missing in Intelligence. I did like the female bodyguard chr. tho. And could improve as we get to know the chrs. more.
  7. I find, as the years go on, that this is how I feel about 98% of TV and films, even when they're mega-popular with a zillion professional kudos and fans. Sci-fi/fantasy seems to be particularly vulnerable to this "been there/cliche" syndrome. Maybe because it's harder to suspend disbelief and just accept common (and often fairly unavoidable) plot and character cliches and familiar actors in settings that already require a lot of suspension of disbelief. I'd forgotten about this show ... I'll have to check it out now.
  8. Gives me a bit of the early System Shock2 vibe, in the creeping around wondering what's around the corner dread, while knowing what's around the corner is very likely to rip you a new one. The interview sections in the vid were boring, but the bits of game footage have promise. I'd agree with Keyrock about the motion tracker - if that's your main tool and used well to give a sense of anticipatory dread, it could be cool. I was not terribly pleased, however, when they brought out ... the flashlight. I had enough of the flashlight in Doom3 or Doom4 or whatever it was. In small doses it's fine/cool ... but if it's something that feels too fabricated and you end up feeling completely dependent on it the entire time, so there can be a plethora of 'total darkness jump scares' it gets old. Depends, of course, but in action games I tend to find it a cheap trick after a while. And of course, Alien the franchise has not had good luck in the game genre ... kinda like the Star Trek franchise. So while this early bit looks intriguing, it's a very long way from making me go "yeah, this is it!"
  9. Hubs still feeling poorly (less to do with the cold he had and more to do with general malaise I think), Mr. Black still thinks he's a dog, and I still feel as if there's not enough time in the day. Oh and I'm more and more annoyed with middle-age's desire to seemingly turn me into a bearded woman. Men get hairs sprouting out of their ears and nose, or whatever ... I seem to get a new chin hair to pluck out every year. What is it about aging that makes hair run amuck? Are there still circuses in town? Maybe I can join one in another decade or so.
  10. Still keeping up with Almost Human, at least via VoD. It still feels like a show that has a lot of promise but isn't quite there yet. I haven't kept up with Agents of Shield or whatever it's called...maybe in another few weeks I'll try watching a couple more. 2nd episode of Sherlock was sorta the same as the first, with a lot of lol humor but no mystery. Well, there is a mystery, but it's almost incidental. Which is still fine, because of the main content/setting, but I hope they go back to being more about the problem solving. Is there just 3 episodes this series as well, or did they extend it to be more? Because if it's just 3, I'm a little confuddled what the 3rd/last one would do to feel like a closer.
  11. lol...yeah...if a stranger wanted to pay that much for one of those...well, that's called taking the money and running. So I'll check the AH for something by you in (my) mid-afternoon, then, unless you say something different.
  12. My level of stick-with/patience for story/consequence decision making is not what it used to be (versus "what armor to wear" decision making). I might get to a spot where I agonize over (or altogether avoid) a decision (this faction? that faction? benefit/con?) for so long I end up going no further in the main plot for ages. I know it's nonsensical since I can try it one way first then another way later, but my brain just gets stuck. I've always been like that to a degree, but was better at pushing through it back when then I am now. And while I've always spent a lot of time playing action/hack and slash (along with deeper rpg's and strategy), it's become a lot more dominant lately ... so I understand what you mean. Along with less energy to sit for long sessions, especially the past year or two. But I know Obsidian can make interesting choice and emotionally involving games that I enjoy and finish, so I think the odds are high that once I start playing, after the first hour or three of feeling like I have to get into the swing of things again, I'll be fine. It's also pretty much the only game on my "super looking forward to" list so by the time it comes out I'm going to be itching for something new to play.
  13. Well...oops. Turns out I think you still can't trade AD directly. I could swear I saw it there in the window when messing with hubby but when asking around everyone says you can't. We can still try it but ... if it doesn't work then the only way is using the AH like the farmers do - you'd post a tiny heal pot or something else no one would want for 1-bid/2.2 million Buyout (AH cut) and I'd purchase it, sending the AD to your mailbox etc. I'm fine with doing that....whatever you want.
  14. I'm not sure I'd use the word "strange," but unconventional companions are always a plus. That is, not a human/elf. Whether like the talking skull or could even be a plain animal (dog, aardvark, bear, whatever) that doesn't have speech per se. If something too non-humanoid is more work than it's worth in this instance (not saying it would be, I don't know), then something at least like ... oh I dunno, a semi-deranged troll who yet doesn't want to be the "bad guy" anymore and thus is willing to join your party. Regen/heal bonus. Maybe needs a vigorous slap+1 now and then to remind him/her what side their supposed to be on. Ok, that's probably cliche too, but you get my drift.
  15. Seen on back of truck: "Want more gun control? ... Try using both hands." Also, they had the coolest his/her or father/son lacquered wood canoes on the top rack. Ok, not as cool as carved-from-one-piece-of-solid-wood canoes perhaps, but they were still neat looking. Wish I'd had my tiny vid camera with me. *off to stuff face with Chinese food and watch TV
  16. *sticks a PostIt note on her monitor* ...sounds fine.
  17. Nope...stag didn't sell for the price most people want to ask for it. Time to undersell it. Anyway, Keyrock, just tell me when's a good time/day to try to meet up in the game and I can trade you those diamonds. Assuming I can login. I'm getting a lot of server delay/timeouts this afternoon...
  18. ^ That is awesome.
  19. I'm in a "girl's just want to have fun" mood. This could be trouble. P.S. That parrot in the t-shirt gif is so cute/funny!
  20. The humor was great, I lol'd quite a few times. But I did feel the mystery portion was lost/unfocused. Not that I mind. I'm sure the next two episodes will focus on that more. The first eps. had a lot to do/settle/setup.
  21. It is black comedy/satire, but still seems funny to put it under that category.
  22. I now know the secret of seeing it via the official BBC site while still in the US. So I have. I'll still watch it on PBS, too, tho. And buy the DVD's. Anything with Benedict, really. Yes I'm sad. Side note: he actually vaguely reminds me of my husband, only hubby doesn't have an accent. Could be why.
  23. While I agree that physical exertion is the fastest way to feel warmer for a while, I'd disagree that bundling up is not also a solution. Once bundled, I stay warm as long as I'm still bundled, without having to get up and do 1000 jumping jacks again. Bundling up in a soft, warm blanket also has the benefit of giving one that super-cozy, happy, snuggly, warm fuzzies feeling, which pumping iron/exercise has yet to ever give me.
