  1. I still watch the first half of the TV "IT". I really liked that section, including most of the child actors. Although I admit I wasn't fond of the girl who played Bev. Didn't fit my image of the chr. much. The rest were mostly good tho. But they did overdo the circle-hug shot a bit. It's the 2nd half (adults) that falls apart for me. Which is a shame because some of the actors were decent TV staples back then, but the script and that ending were awful re: the adults. Tim Reid's bits were the best, imo. I never understood the high praise for Tim Curry's clown. I didn't find him scary at all and I thought he (or the direction) was a bit over the top towards satire, not horror. Never really gave me the "child's worst nightmare" feeling, he was too much of a caricature.
  2. Square-Enix responded to the "Your FFXV benchmark tool has issues/isn't a good benchmark tool" stuff. Someone posted this on the Steam forums, I didn't discover it. The FFXV facebook page community manager is the one who posted it. https://www.facebook.com/ffxv/posts/1946290452354936 Nice of them to respond and acknowledge the LOD issue. Also, glad for the verification that there will be a lot of custom on/off options. I mean, I was expecting at least some of that sort of thing on a PC version, and would've been greatly annoyed if there was only "High/Standard/Lite" presets, just nice to have it verified, lol.
  3. Continuing re: FFXV benchmark tool ... you can glitch it and control Noct/run around while the benchmarking is going on. It's utterly pointless, but you can. Because it is there.
  4. For some reason this made me imagine characters pulling out balls of yarn to knit sweaters to pass the time after diving off high cliffsides. Or maybe while taking a lunch break sitting inside their mech-suits.
  5. *watches that Stargate Origins trailer* Well, looks kinda stupid and that lead actor rubs me the wrong way, but trailers can be misleading so I might .... *looks up the series, realizes it's a web-series with 10minute long episodes* ...nah. I like my sci-fi series to be normal length, and films not to be cut up/paced into tiny pieces. Maybe when it's on Netflix and I can binge it all at once. Speaking of web-series tho, Jerry Seinfield's "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee" is on Netflix. I saw a couple of episodes before but never watched them as they came out or anything. They're fun to watch one or two at a time. A little uneven; some of them feel too long even if they're short, and some feel a bit too contrived, but still...a mild amusement for break-times.
  6. Yeah, I've seen ppl posting that video everywhere. If you've seen people do that Armiger glitch to make Noct. fly out of bounds, it's been apparent the game draws in/loads a ton of stuff that the player can never see, all the time, including new assets that suddenly appear that are obviously upcoming DLC assets ... and their engine likely does a poor job of unloading such from memory at times. I'm not surprised if the PC version is doing something similar, with Hairworks and anything else. ...I don't even know if I have Gameworks, I tend to only install drivers/PhysX and the control panel, any separate install of whatever I ignore. Like I can't use nvidia's game video recording app because I never install whatever it is that gives you access to it. I mean I suppose it's there technically but I have no control panel Gameworks access menu or for Ansel or anything else.
  7. Now hubby's making spindle holders. Like a kid in a candy store. Also, I was eating a pear and he jumps up saying "save the core for me!" I asked why - apparently the worms like them. For his garden (which is quite large this year). He's becoming quite the hobbyist again - which is better than sitting around watching TV all day, so I approve. Myself - errands and then maybe a nice long walk. Weather has been pretty nice here, for early Feb. Then I'm going to bake some coffecakes.
  8. The cheap DIY 3D printer: hubby's been fiddling with this thing for a while now, always in the garage. Power supply (he had to put that together) and fans were cheap and installing the wires/cables was a mess and he spent time making it all tidy, but it works. If he likes the concept enough he may try another kit down the road. Past few days he's been trying to calibrate all the settings so the printing ends up smooth/clean and his test subject is ... a lego brick. Thus there is now a small growing pile of lego bricks on his bench, from rather poorly formed to "almost there." It's rather hypnotizing to watch the thing. I don't think I've seen hubby have this much fun since he was making lasers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MkhUyA5VW3g
  9. Yeah, most likely. I think the Hairworks in particular is a performance culprit. I don't care about Hairworks at all, I'm already used to garula's with no "wavy" fur and such. >.>
  10. I see Battlestar Galactica and the original series is still what I first think of ... which causes me confusion for about 3 seconds. Happens to me more and more as reboots and re-dos keep flooding the airwaves. :D So I have yet to watch any of that Big Bang spin-off, with the kid. Is it any good? I always thought Big Bang was funny, despite the laugh-track, although its silly charm did wear off after a few seasons.
  11. Of course not. I wasn't actually offended or anything. Just one of those times perhaps where I wish I could be sitting face to face with someone because I (like to hope) that if one saw me as I was speaking, it might come off differently than text. Also, what the heck is that burger thing. The cheese looks like plastic and ... is that a real product or a joke picture? Ugh. Maybe it tastes better than it looks. I'll stick to my pizza tho.
  12. Again, show me where I said the nomination to be "wrong." I stated why I think, at least in part, it was nominated and that I think it's not a top-10 type of film. Nowhere did I claim to have factual proof for my opinion nor did I claim the nomination itself is somehow "wrong." And since I hold little value about the Awards, I don't even know what "wrong" would mean in this case; idle discussion re: "best films" is not a morality play, in my book, there is no right or wrong. (I feel that) You're projecting that onto me. And yes, it is circular. Such is the nature of opinion debates. Agreed.
  13. Think I figured out that it's more from sitting at the desk, not the controller use. I guess I've been angling my arm to use the mouse weirdly lately or not enough of my forearm is resting on the desk surface so lack of support or something. Pfft. I did think it was odd it'd be the controller, since I played XV for months last year with no problem, so this is good and hopefully fixable/preventable with a desk/chair adjustment again. ...I remember when I used to sit at the computer for hours and hours with my feet propped up on the desk, slouching in the chair in a way that my back/head had to swivel to view monitor, mouse arm all akimbo, and it didn't bother me, my legs, my arms, my back etc at all. When I was a kid I used to sit in this really weird position in chairs to watch TV - half on my back with legs folded up against my stomach like I was doing crunches. I miss those days.
  14. Uh, please tell me where, exactly, that I said I think or assume others opinions for liking the film are illegitimate or less honest than mine. That feels like projecting something onto me that I never said. Art opinions (and other things) being so subjective is why I very rarely ever join in debates over whether something is awesome or not awesome, good or bad, because to me it's a waste of time at this point in my life, like arguing what color is best, blue or red. I just give an opinion and wander off again. But imo, the masses/critics liking a film (or anything else) is one topic, while (perhaps one of) the reasons for choosing to nominate it for an award is another topic - they can be two separate (if interwtined) things and the latter can/could still have political/pandering motivations behind it. *I* may think it's at least partly motivated by in-the-moment/timely "pandering" - even if it's well-intentioned pandering - while others may choose not to and want to see more positive reasons. And that's fine, we don't all have to agree. Many are likely less cynical than I, which is good, because if everyone thought like me, well, that would be pretty dull, living a world of nothing but me's. Whichever one it is, we'll never truly know anyway. As to the being racist analogy/example - not touching that with a 10 foot pole but like TN, I do think that was a very poor argument to use in this case and is not the same "side of the coin" at all.
  15. FFXV's 1.21 update had me playing it for a bit again last night/this morning, since they added a few small new thingies and I had to check them out. There's even a lot of new chatter-dialogues for the group and guest npc's, which is always nice. Less repeats/more variety with those is always good. Plus there's evidence that it's likely a new explorable area/quest(s) may open up in a previously closed off area/Chapter. Which is kinda cool. Royal edition supposedly opens up Insomnia/end game a bit, now perhaps they're going to do more with Chapt. 10 as well. Probably won't be extensive, but anything is better than the purely linear boxed in feeling of the later Chapters. They sure have been adding stuff all these months in all these patches. Although it'll probably never truly "fix" all the story and pacing problems, it's quality-of-life plus small changes here and there with the net effect = the game feeling a bit richer/varied. I've liked it so far. Can't wait for Royal Pack/next month to see what's what.
  16. FFXV's 1.21 update finally fixed Ignis' Casual Crownsguard outfit so it actually changes his hairstyle to be the one that's featured in his DLC episode. So now I can have him look like this: On the other hand, I get the feeling this style is rather "stuck in place", so sometimes I'll have to switch back so I can get the kooky wind/rain bad hair days, because those are funny. ...I really wish they'd add a purely "dressup" slot or two for each of the boys, where you could change their hairstyles or accessories - these changes would have no stat bonuses attached, just decorative. I mean, they're all like boy-band members, right? We should be able to put scarves, santa hats, different hair, jackets over their shirts etc. on all of them. There's no character creation in this game ... but they could still let us play dress up more. It's boring looking at the same purple shirt or black tank top 24/7 (which they wear because they have the best stats). Yes I'm weird.
  17. I think one should see it first to form their own opinion before saying any people who may think it's pandering are wrong or that such an opinion is utterly "false" or preposterous. If you know how the Oscar noms. work/come about and how political it and their Board of Governors can be, you know the Academy can very definitely pander, in many ways. And the voters are voting for peers after all, and those peers can get just as wound up into the latest peer and critical cause as anyone else. I'm not saying my opinion is somehow more "right" than anyone else's opinion, but by the same token, all those critics and the Academy voters and even my 10 best friends (if I had 10 best friends, that is, haha) opinions aren't really any more "right" either. That's why art is subjective. It's a good genre movie, I'm not knockin' it at all, but my opinion still stands. It's not anywhere near a "best of the year" sort of project. Note that I don't actually care if it is pandering, it's no skin off my nose either way. They can choose whatever they want, for whatever reasons, I have no investment in it. It was just my casual view/response tossed out one morning on a brief visit to a forum. I haven't even watched the Oscars in years.
  18. Haha I was just doing that benchmark a bit ago too. The benchmark samples they were using looks good on 1080. Ran it a few times, always came out close to the same, Fairly High and a little bit under the "High" benchmark ranking for 1080.
  19. Yes, when I was 12-20ish, including hospitalization. I think these days they'd put the major down periods under the variant of "atypical" (which doesn't mean it's really uncommon, heh) or maybe I bounce back and forth between atypical and melancholic with weeks/months of almost "normalcy" but I dunno, for a while there they seemed to redefine and relabel such terms and categories every 6 months, haha. I stopped paying attention. Haven't done a doctor routine in 20 years. It's just ... part of who I am at this point, like an old sweater that lies in the corner that I occasionally wear. And age mellows even this, sometimes.
  20. It's a send-a-message nod. I think its odds of actually winning Best Picture are almost zero. I also liked Get Out, it was rather amusing and more intelligent than most films of its genre, but getting an Oscar nom. or calling it one of the years Top 10 best or whatever is over-rating it way too much.
  21. Saw "Gantz:0" via Netflix. It's an anime film based on a long manga. I can't say I actually liked it, it was too truncated (considering its vast source material) but for some reason I kept on watching. The violent visuals were quite astounding at times, a few of the chrs. were intriguing despite there being almost no characterization and it had a setup concept that kept me wondering where it would end up. But the actual ending had me scrambling on the 'net to figure out what the heck it was. Even then, I don't think I could explain it clearly myself.
  22. Yesterday/today I haven't felt much like gaming so instead I've been browsing through the entire collection of Ebert's film reviews that are archived on his site. I rarely visit the site anymore since his passing - with no single voice there anymore the site is boring - but I'm glad they've kept his archive up. I started on the very last page (there's over 450 pages with multiple reviews each page) and have been slowly making my way through a lot of them. It's an interesting re-walk through some of film's history, so to speak. I still miss Ebert a lot. I think I only agreed with his star-conclusion maybe 65% of the time but his rating wasn't why I read his reviews. Only film reviewer I like these days is still James Berardinelli. His "ReelThoughts" essays are often interesting reads as well.
  23. The true meaning of "dressing up a pig?" It's adorable. I read you can capture pets or something, I assume that's one of them.
  24. Oh I didn't notice this earlier. I ended up becoming a little weary of thinking inside the Palico editor and ended up making him a little ordinary. I still want to make some kind of wacky colored one. I might make a 2nd character just for that. Wasn't too happy with my female avatar's face outside of the editor. She has these very weird cheeks inside the game that aren't apparent in editor. Maybe a helmet will cover up her face before long. Not sure if that's just going to be the case regardless but I'll have to try again. I hear you can't change their actual faces later, just hair/makeup and clothes or something. I haven't gotten very far in the game, yet, which I expected. Trying to "git gud" with the weapon combos and even targeting (pressing down on the stick didn't occur to me at first...) of a new game always gives me conniptions so I don't play for too long at a time initially. :D I have a feeling I'll be using the free-roam a fair bit, just to enjoy the world without the timers.
