Would Mace Windu Have beaten Sidious?
Hildegard replied to jodo kast 5's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Nobody could singlehandedly defeat the....... ......not even Sidious. -
You asked.......(and just for you Flatus......in paragraphs): The cyborg-like Land Warrior program represents the Army's attempt to plug individual infantrymen into the same technology that pilots and submarine captains use in battle. It means incorporating functions like night vision, radio, protective clothing, navigation and positioning systems, weapons guidance and other sensors and gadgets into one piece of equipment that soldiers wear like a uniform. If all goes well, soldiers may someday become half-man, half-machine. "What we're trying to achieve is the same level of overmatched capability that we have in the air, on the ground," said Bret Herscher, president and founder of Pemstar Pacific Consultants. "No air force would ever fly against the U.S. Air Force -- not even our allies, like the British." Pacific Consultants, a division of Minnesota-based contract manufacturer Pemstar, grosses about $25 million a year, according to the company, by performing high-level instrument design. Founded in 1995, it employs 90 engineers in Mountain View, most of whom hold Ph.D.s. Typical projects involve designing a heart stent for a big pharmaceutical company or an electronic router for a telecom company. Four years ago, the company branched into the defense business when the Army came to Silicon Valley to update Land Warrior after the 40-pound prototype, produced by Raytheon, proved to be too bulky. Menlo Park-based Exponent, a scientific consulting company, won the contract and brought in Pacific Consultants because of its experience designing wireless equipment. Now defense giant General Dynamics holds the contract for Land Warrior, which was just re-upped this year for $60 million. Pacific Consultants' role has increased so that they have a hand in updating all of Land Warrior's hardware, though Herscher said he can not say how much his company's piece of the contract is worth. Silicon Valley ingenuity has always kept businesses, with their networks and computers, running smoothly. As the Army has gotten more sophisticated about using computing power in battle, it is also starting to hire private companies to upgrade its systems rather than rely on in-house technology. "By using off-the-shelf technology we saved the Army money, as they didn't have to reinvent the wheel,"said Angela Meyer, a vice president at Exponent, which first brought the project to Silicon Valley. In fact, the system itself is estimated to only cost about $30,000 per person, down from initial estimates of $60,000. The weight has fallen from 40 pounds to around 10 pounds. While Raytheon spent over $100 million during the 1990s working on the first Land Warrior system, the Silicon Valley team produced its first prototype in six months for $2 million, using Windows software and computer chips anyone can buy at Radio Shack or Fry's Electronics. Military decisions to buy existing technology is a controversial, decade-old trend, says John Pike, the director of GlobalSecurity.org, a defense policy group in Virginia. The military on the one hand sees the benefits of private industry's technology but worries it has less control over what gets developed. Despite all the excitement and money spent, the Land Warrior remains in prototype form. Pacific Consultants' Herscher said it may be more than a year before soldiers can use it in battle. The Army also has not been able to test other aspects of the "digitized infantry" programs in real life. The cutting-edge 4th Mechanized Infantry entered Iraq from Kuwait in early April, but the war ended before it saw real action, said Pike. If it had, it would have been able to try out Force XXI technology, which uses computers to digitally link together tanks, helicopters and personnel carriers, so they are all on the same digital wavelength, as Pike described it. If all goes well with the work of Pacific Consultants on Land Warrior, combat infantrymen will be on the same wavelength, too. Those improvments will be implemented in the "Land Warrior" project: Land Warrior integrates small arms with high-tech equipment enabling ground forces to deploy, fight and win on the battlefields of the 21st century. Land Warrior came about in 1991 when an Army study group recommended the service look at the soldier as a complete weapon system. Land Warrior is a first-generation, modular fighting system for individual infantrymen. It is composed of six integrated subsystems that include clothing and equipment needed to enhance soldier lethality, survivability, mobility and target acquisition capabilities.

We're a lot closer to terminators than sentinels. Didn't you watch Terminator 3? Skynet will soon be operational and then we'll all be doomed! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I don't know if you were kidding about that or not, but the Americans are developing a rather similar thing to Skynet - it's called the FCS ( Future Combat Systems). It will be used like Skynet, to connect every soldier and military hardware......if you want to learn more here's the link:global security

All your talk about clone armies in the future are, by my opinion, rubish....... In the future, as the technology goes further and the battlefield landscape rapidly changes, the roll of people will deminish in the military and will be replaced by mechanized and A.I. factors....just look at the american X-47 project, it's just the begging..... When the progressive research and development of computers and A.I. totaly surpasses the capabilities of the human brain, that would cause a dramatic reduction of the human role in the army, because then machines will think faster, better and more adequate to adapt to situations in the battlefield and not to mention the far superior physical strenght and endurance.... Size of your army almost won't matter anymore, the quality, equipment, technology and weapons are the factors that will the decide the winner....not numbers and particulary not the numbers of foot soldiers that will totaly disappear. Your ideas of huge clone armies inspired by sw is completly baseless......those scenes of ground battles in sw are utterly lame and pathetic in terms of weapons, strategy and overexaggerated numbers of soldiers.....please the battle in the end of ep2 looks, other then the space ships, like a medieval battle, but instead of swords, pikes and bowes they had blasters..... ..come on,please tell me 11XHooah.....with a dozen M-270 rocket launchers and a couple of MOAB's you would wipe out the clone and the droid army completly, not to mention WMD's in those situations.....those battles in sw are made for the sole purpose of making the film more epic and making the movie look more impressive on the big screen, pointing out suggestions about future warfare or the role of the clones based on sw is eligible only for 6 year old children with wild and unrealistic imagination. With the role of people reducing in the army in the future there is just no need in creating huge numbers of clone soldier........................................what was this topic about again?

Let's take a glimps into the future of tanks ( nice tank Lucius but this is something far beyond that crap).......in the near future: Model Type: Kampfpanzer Leopard III Vehicle Type: Heavy Tank Crew: Three (Driver, Gunner, and Commander). Speed: Ground: 55.9 mph (90 kph) maximum road speed; 43.5 mph (70 kph) off-road. The vehicle is designed to traverse virtually all terrain and can climb at up to a 60% grade although at a much slower speed (About 10% of maximum road speed). It can also climb barriers and ford trenches. The vehicle can also handle side slopes of up to 30%. Maximum Range: Fuel Cell Models: 621.4 miles (1000 km) Nuclear Models: Effectively Unlimited (5 years.) Statistical Data: Height: 9.3 feet (2.79 meters) to top of commander's cupola. Width: 13.3 feet (4 meters) Length: 25.6 feet (7.69 meters) not including gun barrel Weight: 79 tons (72 metric tons). Power Source: Fuel Cell System or Nuclear fusion turbine (Must be refueled every five years, otherwise effectively unlimited) Cargo Capacity: Minimal, enough for equipment with crew Sensors: Signaal Cougar Combination Air/Ground Millimetre Radar: Range of 8 miles (12.8 km); Capable of tracking up to 10 targets simultaneously, this radar serves to guide the 8 mm railgun in engaging aircraft (+2 to targeting aircraft and missiles with the railgun), and providing early warning of incoming aircraft and missile attacks; The radar can be programmed to shut off immediately if it detects an aircraft firing a missile, incase the missile is a radar-homing HARM type. The radar suffers from slightly reduced performance against ground targets (-20% to sensor rolls). Fully stabilized gun sight: A computer aided gunsight with up to x100 magnification and integral laser rangefinder. +3 to strike in direct fire under all conditions, and +3 to strike in indirect fire when standing still. Datalink transmitters: A powerful battlefield management communications system. Allows the tank to use targeting data from scout vehicles for firing the Anti-Tank missiles or Sabot rounds, and to provide targeting data to other vehicles. Bonus varies on the quality of the data being provided, but all data would allow the tank to fire over obstacles if the scout vehicle is in the right position. The normal effective battlefield range is 10 miles (16 km). Signaal Sabre ESM/ECM system: Combines ESM and ECM into one powerful system. The system can detect another radar system at 125% of the range of the transmitting radar. When jamming it causes -25% to detection but when it is active, other vehicles/ bases can detect that it is jamming, and some missiles will home in on jamming signals. Jamming also causes a -3 penalty to all radar guided weapons. Thermo-Imager: range of 2 miles (3.2 km). Finds the infra-red radiations of things that are warm. Also enables pilot to see in smoke, shadows and darkness. Two Periscopes: Have up to x100 magnification for commander and driver to view out of while maneuvering the vehicle. Nightvision Optics: Range: 2,000 ft (609 m). Uses light amplification to make a picture. Emits no light but will not work in absolute darkness. System can be dazzled (but not burned out, compensates within a single round) by sudden bright lights but does not physically blind the user. Laser Targeting/Rangefinder System 41,333 feet (12,400 meters). Special Notes: Tank is fully NBC (Nuclear, Biological, Chemical) protected, and all equipment is hardened against EMP (Electromagnetic Pulse). ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Model Type: T-212UM1 Vehicle Type: Main Battle Tank Crew: Three (Driver, Gunner, and Commander). Underwater: Can be equipped with snorkel to run underwater down to 16.4 feet (5.0 meters) Maximum Range: 497 miles (800 km) plus up to 217.5 miles (350 km) more with a large strap-on rear fuel tank that is ejected before going into battle. Statistical Data: Height: 7.15 feet (2.18 meters) to top of commander's cupola. Width: 18.33 feet (3.59 meters) Length: 28.9 feet (8.8 meters) not including gun barrel Weight: 65 tons (59 metric tons). Power Source: Gas Turbine Engine. Cargo Capacity: Minimal, enough for equipment with crew Sensors: Anti-Aircraft Radar: Range of 10 miles (16 km); Capable of tracking up to 10 targets simultaneously, this radar serves to guide the 10 mm Railgun in engaging aircraft (+2 to targeting aircraft and missiles with the 10 mm Railgun), and providing early warning of incoming aircraft and missile attacks; The radar can be programmed to shut off immediately if it detects an aircraft firing a missile, incase the missile is a radar-homing HARM type. The radar is highly ineffective against ground targets (-60% to sensor rolls.) Quadrant sight for long-range targeting of Sabot rounds: +4 to firing the long-range Sabot rounds only, when the vehicle is not moving. Data-interlink transmitters: For using targeting data from scout vehicles for firing the Anti-Tank missiles or Sabot rounds. Bonus varies on the quality of the data being provided, but all data would allow the tank to fire over obstacles if the scout vehicle is in the right position. The normal effective battlefield range is 5 miles (8 km). Full Infrared viewing mode: Range of 2 miles (3.2 km), with IR searchlight (+3 to detecting targets with IR when in use, however, +3 to detecting the T-12UM1 with IR equipment when in use, as well.) Two Periscopes: Has up to x100 magnification for commander and driver to view out of while maneuvering the vehicle. Visual targeting sight with same magnification possible for gunner. Laser targeting system for main gun: range of 3,000 meters. Special Notes: Tank is fully NBC (Nuclear, Biological, Chemical) protected, and all equipment is hardened against EMP (Electromagnetic Pulse). -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Model Type: M1A5 Abrams Vehicle Type: Main Battle Tank Crew: Three (Driver, Gunner, and Commander). No picture sorry...... Speed: Ground: Cruising speed on land is 70 mph (112.6 kph) on roads and 60 mph ( 96.6 kph) off road maximum. The vehicle is designed to traverse virtually all terrain and can climb at up to a 60% grade although at a much slower speed (About 10% of maximum road speed). It can also climb barriers and ford trenches. The vehicle can also handle side slopes of up to 30%. Underwater: Can be equipped with snorkel to run underwater down to 15 feet (4.6 meters) Maximum Range: 700 miles (1126.5 km) Statistical Data: Height: 9.5 feet (2.9 meters) Width: 10.8 feet (3.3 meters) Length: Main Body: 27.2 feet (8.3 meters) and with Gun Forward: 34.5 feet (10.5 meters). Weight: 72.5 tons (65.8 metric tons) Power Source: Fuel Cell System Cargo Capacity: Minimal storage space in pilots compartment; about three feet (0.9 m) in side dimensions for extra clothing, weapons, and personal items. Three carbines and one hand-held missile launcher with four loads each are stored in a compartment in the crew compartment Sensory Equipment: Sensory equipment is mounted on a retractable mount that can be extended 6.6 feet (2 meters) to extend sensors when hull down. The tank carries all standard equipment of a robot vehicle plus this special equipment: Radio/ Video Communications: Long range, directional, has a range of 500 miles with short range directional radio of 5 miles (8 km). Laser Targeting System: Range is 2 miles (3.2 km) and gives an additional +1 to strike with long range weapons. Combat Computer/ Targeting Computer: Assist in the tracking of targets. Full Life Support: Protects crew, troops, and vehicle from heat and radiation and gives a breathable atmosphere inside the tank for up 48 hours in vacuum and three weeks with scrubbers. Spotlight: Range: 600 feet (182.9 meters) Thermo-Imager: Range: 2,000 ft (609 m). Finds the infrared radiations of things that are warm. Also enables pilot to see in smoke, shadows and darkness. Nightvision Optics: Range: 2,000 ft (609 m). Uses light amplification to make a picture. Emits no light but will not work in absolute darkness. System can be dazzled by sudden bright lights but does not physically blind the pilot. P.S. the future looks rosy for the military industry, nice tanks, wouldn't you agree 11XHooah......
