Who would you most like to meet in real life
Antagonist replied to Cantousent's topic in Way Off-Topic
You are female ? How... disturbing. -
Dragon Age might be the thing you are looking for: Dragon Age HP It sounds very similar to NWN.

I don't see any problem here. Add an option to the gameplay settings which allows you to remove the level cap with a strong warning that it might affect the game balance. So the power gamers can have their way and the rest just don't care.

Part 1: Jedi or Pathological Killer?
Antagonist replied to Maria Caliban's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
They should also get rid of the light /dark side meter, because it destroys any roleplaying value if you are instantly told wether you did something good or wrong. It should be noted invisible to a player if you did something good (or evil) and the game should adjust over time, like cutting out good (or peaceful) dialogue respnses and making it harder to use light side powers (critical failure ?). And I agree fully with Maria about quest related experience point. Not only would it allow to solve a situation in different ways without being compensated unfairly, at the same time it would force the designers to focus on the quests themselves. At the end I believe and hope that we would get both better balanced combat system and more opportunities to actually roleplay. I am somewhat sceptic if every situation should be solved non-violently. Some of the best moral conflicts are created by the fact that sometimes you have to resort to violance in order to do "the right thing". But the player should do ALL he/she can do before resorting to this final solution. The problem with design is the sheer amount of work. An RPG that allows different solutions to the same problem that are equally fullfulling has to have the dialogue depth of Planescape, the sneaking part like Thief or Spliter Cell and a well-balanced combat system, so most developers seem to concentrate on one thing and do it right (although Bioware did a medicore job with story and combat). Imagine using the force like Ben Kenobi in Star Wars when he distracts the Strom Troopers with a noise or Luke and Han use disguises to move around the Death Star unnoticed. Sadly it would propably take too much time and money to implement something like this properly when you have a deadline. Antagonist -
Questions the the Devs - Take 2
Antagonist replied to EnderAndrew's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Just don't overdo it. I never read any EU so I kept asking myself who this Exar Kun was. It is nice as some kind of Easter Egg for the more experienced Star Wars fan out there but should not requrire any info outside the game. Question: Will you add more video options to the PC version of Kotor II ? While part 1 ran fine on my maschine I remember many people who were dissatisfied with the current ones (or the lack of). The player should be allowed to turn of GPU and CPU consuming effects for instance particle affects. -
The Sith Lords - Speculation
Antagonist replied to EnderAndrew's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
HA ! Obviously you have been to some other force.net forums because the ones I know are full of trolls which will rip you apart if you dare to speak just one word of criticism about Lucas or his work. Problem is that the mods there support this kind of behavior, there is also one place where people can discuss Star Wars critically and in peace, the so called Basher's Sanctuary (one of the best topics on the Internet if I may say so). The rest is Lucas dictatorship. Mods should take it easy because we know almost nothing about TSL so this thread is not better than another. On topic: TSE will introduce anal probes as an alternative to force sight. -
I hate the robes. Basically all Jedi look like Tatooine moisture farmers (and Jawas). I wish they had used unique armor for the jedi. I think this fault may be contributed to TESB, where Yoda also wore this silly looking garb which is totally unfit for a sword fighter.

PC Kotor is patchable ! A huge advantage considering the suboptimal release version of both PC and Xbox.

Huh ? And here I am, thinking that Kotor II major improvement might be the story compared to the vanilla stuff Bioware providedus with. But who cares about story if we can have kewl new powers and more planets. <_< Different people, different priorities I guess

Will KOTOR 2 have Revan in it?
Antagonist replied to sideshowbob's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Not more ridicilous than a uber-jedi being force brain-washed into forgetting himself and having a force peer-to-peer connection to the person that did this to him. It all depends on execution. -
What a bold prediction knowing only the few facts surfaced so far

Will KOTOR 2 have Revan in it?
Antagonist replied to sideshowbob's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Yoi know, chemix, if you are so dissatisfied with your level 1 ex-jedi weakling you can still cheat him to revan-like proportions because that is what you obviously care about. I guess that the majority of the players won't like starting with an ueber-character with no opposition. Otherwise you would have to implement hundreds of enemies that are at least as strong as Revan and that reminds me too much of Throne of Bhaal. Part of CRPGs fun comes from watching your character grow in power and abilities. If you take that away, you loose the heart of action-orientated RPGs like Kotor. -
So why do you offer the choice alltogether ? I voted for Jedi Outcast although I had to hold back myself to vote Kotor just to annoy you.

Will KOTOR 2 have Revan in it?
Antagonist replied to sideshowbob's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Apart from being incredibly difficult to explain HOW Revan starts AGAIN at level 1 all powergaming 12-years old would go crazy because they can't force-wave everything into oblivion from the beginning. I can already imagine all the topics about how UNREALISTIC it is that Revan is not da man anymore. At least they had a (granted stupid) explanation why Revan was such a weakling in Kotor 1. We know everything there is to know about Revan, so changing the protagonist to a all new character is more interesting for the player. -
Should the Dark Side be more 'seductive'?
Antagonist replied to Ivan the Terrible's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I don't know the D20 source material but from a pure movie point of view the idea of decaying bodies etc. sounds stupid. I will only refer to the Original Trilogy (the holy one) because I think the Prequels are inferior and messed up with Star Wars badly. For instance, Vader never wore his armor to hide his failing body due to him using the darkside but because he lost a duel with Obi-Wan and he lost it bad. As for the emporers odd appearance in RotJ I always understood that it was because he was OLD. Obviously the force can extend ones lifespan if used by a powerful wielder which the emperor undoubtly was. In RotJ Vader must have been already 60 so I imagined that the emperor was ancient and only alive due to him being a master of the darkside. In ESB Yoda tells us quickly that the darkside isn't stronger. It offers an alternative access to the force which doesn't require control and effort. It's strenght is seduction not fancy powers. Before RotJ Vader planned to overthrow the Emperor with Luke's help, he had no internal conflict. He was evil, but cunning. He must have thought that with his son he would be able to assume galactic control. Why did he end like a sissy in RotJ ? Because Lucas lost interest in Star Wars and dropped every interesting plot raised by ESB and revisioned Star Wars as the Redemtion of Anakin Skywalker. But before that, Vader was in no need for it. He was evil and I wished his case would have been handled differently. Heck, in Star Wars he wasn't even meant to be Luke's father. Antagonist -
Validation results Being an HTML whore I checked Obsidian's new homepage with the official, neverlying validator after I looked briefly at the source code and realized that someone had done some major rewriting of said code. Because I encourage well written code I'd like to point out that such effort doesn't go unnoticed. Only 34 steps to heaven

Why does everybody think that the woman is middle-aged ? To me she looks no older than 30, propably younger. I don't think her hair is white because of age, but to symbolize innocence and pureness, but her expression looks more like business and not as engrossed as Bastilla. She looks like she can take care of herself unlike the former heroine. Nevertheless the concept art looks really astonishing and I hope that they can translate it to the Kotor engine.

Why don't they use this Corthosis Weave to explain why doors cannot be bashed by lightsabers ? It couldn't get any sillier than having weapons which can withstand a lightsaber.

Happy Birthday, Old Man !

The BoS were formed from the renmants of the military forces after they rebeled against their superiors because of the inhuman experiments performed at the military base. Luckily for them the world got hit pretty bad by nukes and so they experienced no retribution by the government.. They were led by some General (?) Maxon to another buncer (their later main operation base), whose descendant is the High Elder during the Fallout 1 period.

IF this rumor is true I would congratulate Obsidian for this wise business move. Some people might be disappointed that they are doing a Bioware handdown, but you have to look at the situation from another angle. Obsidian is a yound company which had no incomes in the beginning and was propably founded by the founders private money itsself. Developing a totally original first game might mean their end if the game flops. Otherwise producing Kotor2 will bring them a lot of cash and enable them to do someting more original because then they will be financially secured and not in the danger to go bakrupt. So I would advise to see this development as an opportunity for another original game and not the end of it. I think that this is similar to the book publishers. You must have some well-selling authors in your portfolio to fund books which are in an artistic way very interesting but for the same reason only bought by a limited group of consumers. With best regards Antagonist

Just a quick question: While spending endless hours in the Internet I came across a short story called "Smoke" by someone called Chris Avellone. http://eserver.org/fiction/smoke.txt Is this just a name coincidence ?
