  1. On that note the Democrats are fighting l to keep the folks from North California from breaking away to form Jefferson, or whatever it was they were going to call it. Not because California loves those folks. Quite the opposite. They don’t want to see two more Republican senators. i’m telling you guys the 17th amendment was a big freaking mistake.
  2. Well I for one would love to be the secretary of agriculture in a state that has no agriculture. I could sit at my desk and play computer games all day and get paid princely sum to do it.
  3. So Washington DC will have a governor and the mayor. It will also have a state legislature, a department of agriculture, Department of natural resources, the Secretary of State, a state police force, a state insurance commission, and all the other things that are required for the functioning of a state. All for a state of just 68 mi.² How do you sign up for some of those jobs? They sound like they are going to be extremely easy! Either the mayor or the governor will be entirely useless. personally I don’t give a damn. Join the union don’t join the union whatever. I’m long past caring about crap like this. But if you think about it the entire notion is pretty absurd. I will say one thing. If Washington DC was a hick town with a bunch of gun toting Trump voting rednecks this vote would not be happening.
  4. Making vegetable gumbo in the crockpot. Will be served later with coffee and cornbread. I love corn bread.
  5. Even if it wasn’t completely gridlocked the government would surely disappoint everyone of those people you described. Here is the facts of life. Nobody will do a goddamn thing for you but you.
  6. Thank God. Let’s hope it never changes.
  7. I know Rhode Island would hate it. They would not be the smallest state anymore. Who wants to visit the second smallest state? LOL!
  8. The House just passed a bill to make Washington DC the 51st State. The argument for doing so it actually pretty compelling. DC has no congressional representation but they still pay taxes. We actually went to war over something like that... among other things. But, I have a better idea. Why not have Maryland or Virginia annex Washington DC? If they become part of either state THAT state gets bigger, gets more congressional districts, which means even more congress critters for that state. And the folks of DC have representation. AND we don't need to buy new flags. See how easy that is? But it will never happen. Because that won't get the Democrats 2 more senators and THAT is all this is about. Power. But if they did take my idea it would probably be best if Maryland did the annexing. As a Civil War buff I think I would laugh every day for the rest of my life if Washington was actually captured by the Commonwealth of Viriginee after all this time!
  9. LOL! I said they worked together pretty well. I didn’t say they worked well! OK this is the best example I could come up with. Of differences I mean. Covington is a stickler for traffic laws. They write a hell of a lot of tickets for a town with fewer than 10k people. There is a major highway that runs through it and they make a point of squeezing nickel out of the folks who use it in traffic citations. Tipton County SD almost never does traffic stops. It’s not a priority to the Sheriff. I don’t remember them even doing DUI stops.
  10. This is mostly true but there is not as much latitude as you seem to think. The police of every jurisdiction have to abide by the law of the US government, the state they’re in, and any municipality they fall under. They have different priorities and are able to use slightly different methods but in general with the exception of some details they all operate very similarly. And mostly work together pretty well. for example, I live in Tipton County. So my police force is the Tipton County sheriffs department. However the city of Covington has its own Police Department. So the police department of Covington has jurisdiction within the city limits. Outside of that it’s the sheriffs department.
  11. I remember reading his lawyer had to go to court to get that body cam footage released. The police were less than cooperative it first. Don’t know if that’s the straight scoop but it is what I’ve read in multiple places. The soldier could’ve handled the stop a little better. The two cops could’ve handled it a hell of a lot better. But the most damning part of all is they lied about him assaulting them when they opened the door. And then made it even worse by trying to bargain with him after the fact promising not to press charges for an assault that never happened if he didn’t file a complaint against them. You could almost make up an excuse for every other part of their actions but there is no getting around lying about a false charge.
  12. No kidding on that last count. If the body cam footage makes the police look bad they are extremely reluctant to give it up. Usually they would have to go to court and fight like hell to get it then go back to court and fight like hell to get an unedited version of it.
  13. Ever since I gave up DIRECTV I am in some thing of a news vacuum. I have a couple of newspaper and magazine subscriptions on my Kindle. That tends to be my primary source of news other than SiriusXM. Are used to get the Memphis newspaper the commercial appeal delivered daily. Then it became Sundays only. And they abandoned delivery in my area altogether. Sometimes I feel like a dinosaur about neckdeep in the tar pit and only now realizing it.
  14. More and more of the details of the police shooting of a black teenage girl in Columbus are coming out. This one does not appear to be following the narrative some folks seem to want it to. From what I just read the girl had a knife in her hand and was actively trying to kill two other girls.
  15. It looked him up. Apparently he’s Bill O’Reilly‘s replacement. I don’t have cable or satellite anymore. I have a Roku with Pluto, Amazon prime, Netflix, and season pass subscriptions to MLB and NHL. Fox News is nowhere on that list.
  16. Who the hell is that guy? He was rude as hell to his guest. I have to say though training police as EMTs seems like a pretty good idea and well worth the investment.
  17. Experiments on perseverance rover extracts O2 from Martian atmosphere As extremely cool as the helicopter is this is a much bigger deal I think
  18. Yeah I hate that weapons of war description. That is so freaking stupid. An AR 15 has never been used on the battlefield. You know what’s ironic? In a display case on the wall of my office I have a colt navy 32 caliber cap and ball pistol. In my gun safe I have a Springfield .30-06 bolt action rifle. And a .45-70 lever action. Every single one of those were weapons of war. In the case of the black powder revolver literally. It’s a post-Civil War era military issue weapon. The Springfield was bought by my grandfather at a army surplus auction in the 1930’s. It was once an infantry weapon. They are far closer to the description of weapons of war than an AR 15.
  19. The people who make gun laws don’t know **** **** about guns. Just listen to them talk about banning silencers. Put a silencer on a 45 and you’ll still hear it from four blocks away. You just won’t hear it from eight
  20. One of the reasons I have stockpiled so many over the years. With the exception of my 6.5 mm Browning rifle because it’s ammunition this prohibitively expensive already, I could probably shoot 100 rounds a week every week and not run out of ammunition for years.
  21. I agree with you on this one. The real source of gun violence is handguns. But the thing everyone in the government is focusing on is rifles. It’s worthwhile to wonder why. Maybe because it is the in thing right now considering the rifle is the weapon of choice for mass shootings. Maybe it is other reasons I might speculate on. Although my thinking in those cases might strike you as indulging in conspiracy theories. And you might even be right.
  22. Well, in truth I knew about the story because of the dog. But I thought the point was the cop shot an unarmed woman in the chest in her yard in front of her husband and child and suffered no repercussions for doing it. Aside from the lawsuit that the city had to pay. that just seems off to me. Two unarmed people shouting at each other in the yard with no one has actually called in a complaint, if I remember the details correctly, and a passing police officer decides to stop and interject himself into the situation. When there is no illegal act actually occurring where is the probable cause that allows him to walk uninvited onto private property? You’re right that argument could have ended in violence. But just standing in the front having an argument is not in itself illegal. Or am I not looking at that correctly? actually that got me thinking I remember another case I believe this one was in Oklahoma City or Kansas City don’t remember which. The police showed up at a home on an actual domestic disturbance that had been called in. Once again the dog was involved which is how I found out about it because I had an interest in that kind of thing back then. In that case the cop pulls his pistol in the living room to shoot the family dog and missed. The children the parents and the other police officer were in the living room with them. The bullet struck The floor ricocheted up and shot the young daughter in the head. I know for sure the cop was fired the next day. I seem to recall he ended up facing reckless endangerment charges after the fact.
  23. Actually there are many. Full jacket ammunition is illegal. Centerfire 50 caliber is illegal. Phosphorus tipped is illegal. There are others but those are the ones that come readily to mind.
  24. You should have applied for a VA loan. You would not have needed PMI for the down payment. In fact I believe in most instances a down payment is minimal or not required.
