  1. the new job you got right before the accident, or are you talking the old job? taks The old one. The new one has been nothing but nice waiting for me to recover. I'm actually starting in two weeks. I can't wait.
  2. Went to the dentists today. Along with everything else the accident left me with four broken teeth. Finally started taking care of that today. Gotta go back next week for the permenent crowns. Hopefully they get them all right on the first try. But they never do.

I was going through some old boxes I had in storage before I moved. I came across the Sword of Shannara trilogy (one book, all three novels). I never read it so I sat down and gave it a look. My first impressions were that it was just a bad cliche following the same boring formula so many other fantasy books (and CRPGs) do. A party of young men/women set out in search of a magical sword to defeat the dark lord. Ugh. Its one of the reason I HATE the genre but enjoy GRRM's books. But I realized that since it was written in the 1970s it really is the story (along with Tolkiens work) that created the genere. But if it doesn't get better in the next 50 pages, in the trash it goes!
  4. If you have not played them yet you will be very happy you did this. I would reccoment getting the Barbarian Invasion expansion for Rome as well.
  5. I lost my job. But that may have happened anyway. The current government war on business has decimated my investment portfolio but for the most part I sold more than half of my stocks when I bought the house and got rid of most of the rest when it seemed certain Obama would be elected. That turned out to be an exceedingly wise move. Right now I've got most of my money in bonds but the few stocks I have are nearly worthless. I have been looking at buying back in though.
  6. So Wyoming is a pit of oppression huh? How about this? http://www.mormonlawyers.com/2009/02/same-...efeated-in.html Oh, and since you seem to be incapable of seeing beyond political sterotypes there are nineteen democrats in the Wyoming state house. Many voted FOR the ban. That means it was the REPUBLICANS who defeated this. And in case you didn't know (and in your case you seem to know nothing you didn't read on some left wing blog) Wyoming recognizes gay marriage. The reason is there is a strong libertarian streak in people in that region. You know the ideology you routinely castigate? The one where people are free to do as they please with their lives and money? I can see how you would hate that.
  7. I bought a car yesterday. I ended up passing on the Liberty, it was uncomfortably small. I ended up buying a 2006 Laredo. It's red, 4 door, 4wd with the removable back seats to I can fit eight dogs in it easily. A little more money but what the hell. It's so nice buying a car witout worrying about financing. I wrote a check was was done in 15 min. Nobody is buyng cars it seems. I was the only customer there at the time and everyone was saying how bad it is.
  8. Meanwhile, on the other side of the world: http://www.reuters.com/article/worldNews/i...dName=worldNews
  9. And why is that exactly?
  10. Story: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/04/03...constitutional/ The law banning same sex marriage in Iowa was passed by the legislature in 2005 as I understand it. Today the Iowa SC struck it down. The vote was unanimous so that is a pretty clear message. You all know ny opinion on this, any law that limits personal liberty is a bad thing. I find it ironic that same sex marriage is legal in Iowa but illegal in California. The battle does not end here in all probability however. Ususally after a juducial defeat a movement gets going for a constitutional amendment. But maybe not.
  11. The ending to DS9 wasn't terribly well thought out either.
  12. They have a green one at the lot down off Winchester, but its got more miles and costs a little more because it's automatic. This one has 4wd and everything else I'm looking for and the price is right. White would not be my first choice but it will do.

  14. That would have worked, I guess. I really hope that the LOST people are seeing this and making their ending satisfying. They don't even need to tie up every little bit, it just has to make sense within the world that they have created. Tgats the problem when you make it up as you go. You end up painting yourself into a corner with no good way out.
  15. Not at all a bad deal for Denver.
  16. I nominate this post of the Post of the Day Award!
  17. I pointed this out in a thread last year. After the 1929 crash Congress passed the Glass-Stengal Act to seperate investment banks from traditional banks so as to prevent that very thing from happening. Carter, Clinton, and GWB all signed bills that repealed Glass Stengal bit by bit, and all the protections were gone. It seems we as a people learn nothing from history. Back when I was involved in politics I worked for the Florida Republican Party for two years. The lack of understanding of history and economics among professional politicians was astounding. After my own run for office a became friends with a few Democrats and found most of them are even worse. They view everything through an ideological prisim and thnk only of now. The truth is, laws have long term consequnces that those who write them seldom understand and never appreciate. The government created the banking crisis, it cannot simply walk away from it. But taking ownership of everything is sight is far worse than doing nothing. As we will all soon see. The other shoe has yet to fall. Enoch and I both warned everyone it's coming and all this talk of eliminating the dollar at the international currency standard will be the first slip down into a deep hole.
  18. I think I'd have liked it better had the show ended with them finding the ruined "earth". There was a certain irony to that. Artisticly it would have reminded of Old Man and the Sea. To come all that way with nothing to show in the end.

    NHL

Surpisingly the President's Trophy winner has only gone on to win the Stanley Cup six times in the last 22 seasons. I thought it would be more than that.
  20. The cast came off today! Yea! I'm free... FREE! Finally! I've got a full leg soft splint I can taqke on and off now. This first thing I did when I got home was take a shower. A very long hot shower. I'm clean for the first time in months! Now I can finally get my teeth fixed, my appointment with the dentist is on Monday. Going to spend this afternoon car shopping online. I think things are finally turning around!

Now reading There is a God: How the worlds most notorious athiest changed his mind by Anthony Flew. I'm sending taks a copy I'd send one to Sand too but there's no pictures.
  22. Are you enjoying socialism yet? When do you think you'll take up arms in response to Obama's obvious communist tendencies? Socialisim is what we are getting too. The treasury secretary is asking congress for the authority to seize private businsess. Several banks and companies have already been nationalized. However there is no need to fight, they way the wind is blowing Congress will change hands next year. I'll only fight when they show up at my door wanting to seize my property, arms, dogs, or person. But this is OT to the discussion here. The Brits are already seeing their freedom, sovreignty, economy, and future flushed down the drain by an incompetent government.
  23. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-...d--laughed.html Next time Brown should just unzip Obamas fly first. How the heck did this guy ascend to the head of his party. Come to that, I have the same qustions about Obama.
  24. Don't ever underestimate the value of completely avoiding (meaning forgetting) all of your problems for a few hours. Plus I have had the the worst headaches and insomnia lately and a few tall glasses of whisky sour does seem to help.
  25. Volo, the lack of maturity comes from complaing about the team to the press. IMHO employment and contract matters are between the employee and employer. It should become press fodder only after the situation is settled. Having your agent talk to the media about how unhappy you are or lamenting to ESPN on how badly you have been treated IS immature and inappropriate. I remember someone on ESPN asking Bernie Kosar about his ouster from Cleveland back in the 90's. The reporter seemed to be begging him to give a soundbite. Kosar simply replied "I've been doing it right for 15 years, I'm not going to start doing it wrong now". That was class. Cutlers whining, not so much.
