Play Ball! the 2013 Baseball Thread
The Red Sox & Rockies combined for 31 hits, 15 runs and 4 errors tonight. Wow. I don't think the Marlins have that many hits this month! Rays won again. That's 5 of their last 7, and Hellickson & Moore seem to be back in form. Woo-Hoo!

Given your credibility in these matters I am obviously taking notes. Presumably, human rationality being what it is, It would be beneficial for unusual circumstances, not just - say - inebriation to be in effect? A drunken evening pursued by an escaped elephant is better than just a drunken evening? Drunken escapades lead to regrets, regrets lead to denial, denial leads to accusations of rape and sexual abuse. All of which lead to great stories you can tell later!

Well... this situation has the potential to be... icky, We were together for about a year. It was right after I was in that car accident. My life was in total ruins, I had just lost my job, then the accident, my whole savings was just about wiped out, and I has having some real issues with depression following the accident and I was self medicating with booze. Anyway she was one of the physical therapy nurses I was working with and after I was back on my feet I asked her out and it just went from there. We were both divorced and really into each other but she was looking to get married again and after my first go around I really wasn't. So that brought that relationship to an end. That was like four years ago. I have not seen her since. It's a little dd to hear from her out of the blue but curiosity compels me to see her. I wrote her a nice reply and asked he if she would like to go to dinner this weekend. I was thinking here: http://memphis.about.com/gi/o.htm?zi=1/XJ&zTi=1&sdn=memphis&cdn=citiestowns&tm=20&f=10&su=p554.23.342.ip_&tt=3&bt=8&bts=8&zu=http%3A//acrememphis.com/

The Science of Why We Don't Believe in Science
Nah, jest keep governments small, ineffectual, and weak. That way when they screw up, and they will, they always will, it won't do too much damage to society. Yeah, and then, like if anything important wants doing we can watch them flap about like wet hens. ~ I approve of the eight ball idea. Is there some way we could install the eight ball inside Vladimir Putin's shiny forehead? Then it would be both mystical and manly. EDIT: Plus, to shake it we could grab him by the lapels and jink him about. If there was something important that needed doing would you really want it being done by a pack of incompetent sycophants most of whom have never had or would be able to keep a real job and who only got elected because they were somehow less repugnant than all the other choices?

Amentep hit on a really good point here. Everyone knows religion and politics makes a bad mix. Science and politics is every bit as poisonous for all the same reasons.

The Science of Why We Don't Believe in Science
I love that quote. Of course it presupposes that you are right and the man who disagrees with you is wrong. Actually I find that to be a common flaw in many arguments that appeal to science to to prove their point or to debunk an opposing point. It's a tactic based on the arrogant belief that one knows all there is to know about the subject. Take global warming as an example. That climate change is happening is beyond dispute. It's been happening for literally millions of years. The arguments come when you get into the cause. The political left would have you believe it is all man made, the right that it is not happening at all. They lefties think the right is stupid because they do not see their point of view, but when they are shown that the rate of temperature change on Mars and Venus are close to that of Earth the shoe goes on the other foot and they refuse to accept a point contrary to their belief. Just my experience. This was an interesting read but the idea that the current level of accumulated knowledge provides the foundation for the answers to all things is not only arrogant, it wrong on it's face. For example the article discussed the refusal of religious people of accepting evolution even if they were shown proof. Obviously these proto-humans were running around at some point, and the fact the the less advanced remains are older than the more advanced certainly makes a strong case for evolutionary development. It is foolish IMHO to reject the idea outright for religious reasons but at the same time it is foolish for the secular evolutionists to automatically reject the notion of divine creation since there is no evolutionary path back to the origins of life. Aristotle once wrote "It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it". Rejecting a theory which can neither be proven or disproven simply because it does not conform to what they have already made their mind up on does nobody any credit, But anyone who says they don't do it is a liar. See, I just did it!

Yesterday Will Myers hit a grand slam off CC Sabathia and James Shields lost... again. Any doubt on who came off the winner in that trade?

Happy Birthday Ros! Remember it's all fun and games... until it isn't! Just finished changing the oil in my truck. It's such a pain to dispose of the waste oil that I think this will be the last time I do it. Heck if I have to go to Goodyear to get them to take the waste oil I might just as well have them to the whole thing. Now it's time for a sandwich, some unsweetened iced tea with lemon wedges and the Rays-Yankees game. Life is good!

Introducing Vault-Tec Vaults... for real
Ah, surviving might just be more trouble than it worth. What if you came out and there are giant super mutants with automatic weapons running around everywhere? Besides, my luck the water purifier will crap put and they would send me out to look for a replacement part for it. And of course THAT will wind up being a lot more complicated than a simple trip to Radio Shack or the Hub or something. You know, that might make a pretty good story.

Books we've been reading V2.0
Now reading A Chain of Thunder by Jeff Shaara. When this guy got started we wasn't fit to even READ his fathers books, let alone write sequels. He has really gotten a lot better over the years. This one is really good.

There is a classic battle of good vs evil tonight. The Rays are playing the Yankees. It's like Luke and the rebels vs Vader and the Empire with bats instead of lightsabers. Then afterwards I think there might be some basketball game or something on. I seem to remember Shady mentioning it.

Introducing Vault-Tec Vaults... for real
http://bigstory.ap.org/article/developer-kan-caverns-could-preserve-human-race I love this part: Vicino says he won't say specifically where the Indiana shelter or any of his smaller facilities are located because he fears there would be anarchy in the event of a world-changing catastrophe. And it doesn't matter who comes knocking at the "moment of truth," Vicino said, they're probably not getting in. "I've heard people say, 'I will just show up at the door,'" he said. "Our response is, 'great, where is the door?' At our secret shelters, you don't know where to go, and your cash will be worthless at that time." If you knew the world was about to be devastated by a meteor for example, would you even want to survive it? I think I'd just drive to ground zero ahead of time, open a bottle of the best bourbon I could find and toast the end of the world with all the other like minded folks who will be there.

Watching the Rays/ Red Sox game on the computer. So far Hell Boy has held it together but I'm nervous. It's like you know the train wreck is coming, you just don't know when.
