  1. Yeah, it's like Gifted said. And Gromnir earlier. It's not ABOUT anything. It's billows in a ladle. A tempest in a teapot. They are only doing it to drive certain people nuts and the more they go nuts the more they do it. It's actually pretty funny.
  2. I watched a little bit of the Cowboys @ Cardianls. At least until the rain delay in the Marlins game ended. It occurs to me that politics is a disease this is infecting every apsect of our lives. I enjoy my job for the most part. I still feel like I'm in over my head sometimes but I enjoy it. But politics is literally all they talk about other than f-----g star wars. So work is out. I only joined Facebook to play chess online without paying for it. So I'm not real active on it. But I do keep up with my brother and his family that way so that's good. But everything he posts/shares with me is about politics. The entertainment industry is already completely saturated with it. I watch few movies and fewer TV shows (none at all excepting GoT & Walking Dead) so whatever. Sports and politics have never been strangers in this country. But it has devolved from being an occasional intrusive annoyance that only happens in pre-game show and commentator hubris to actually occurring on the field. Enough already. Can't we have just this one thing? Can't we have one respite from the ever growing social civil war and just f-----g enjoy the only thing we can all still agree is good? Must every goddamned thing that occurs in this life be tainted with the insistence of provoking outrage in half the people? It's bad enough our government is completely out of control. Do we have to talk about them with every breath too? And Mr. Trump? Shut up! Do you think entering the fray is helping? All you did was heave a bucket of gasoline at a fire. Talking about politics is fun, entertaining and can be intellectually stimulating. But for God's sweet sake not everything in this life needs to be politicized. Can't we just enjoy the few things we all love without it? No? I guess I'm not surprised. Just my $.02
  3. I was having a conversation with someone tonight and they asked me about good bourbon for under $20 a liter. I told him to drink something else. There are none. Guard Dogs rules of life #6: Good whiskey isn't cheap and cheap whiskey isn't good.
  4. Less than a week to go in the season. Judge broke the rookie HR record tonight with his 50th Stanton is at 57 with six games left to get to 62. That will at least make him the only player to do it clean. Two of those games are in Denver, so you never know. The Cubs have finally created some space between them and the Brewers. The only real race in the NL now is between the Brewers, Rockies, and Cardinals for the last WC spot. The Rockies are at home for the last week so my money is on them. Barring something unforeseen the AL is all locked up and has been for a while now.
  5. Anthony Wiener got 21 months in prison.
  6. You remember how they used to tell you drinking kills brain cells? And that the effects were cumulative? I bet you believe them now!
  7. Well, if I HAVE to catch a fish in order to eat that would change how seriously I took it. And my methods to. Away go the top water lures and out comes the dynamite.
  8. Actully I was referring to Thoreau. But I'm sure his fishing trips were much more enjoyable.
  9. That's ok though. As a wise man once wrote the point of going fishing is not actually to catch fish.
  10. It seems like a good day to forget the world and just go fishing. But doesn't every day?
  11. I think the anthem protests are, and have always been, much ado about nothing. Yes it is disrespectful in a small and petty way. But whatever. If you want to be disrespectful in a small and petty way, more power to you. If it makes you feel like you're sending a message or whatever, kneel away. I never lost a moment of sleep or suffered a second of annoyance because somone knelt during the anthem. The reactions to it have been comical though. People have failed to learn that the fastest way to perpetuate something like this is to make a big deal about it and the fastest way to stop it is to ignore it. As long as kneeling provokes people to go batsht nuts and get the kind of remarks Trump made today they will keep doing it.
  12. The government that governs best governs least. While it is certainly not their intention to do nothing if that is the end result, I'll take it.
  13. Oh for Christ's sweet sake. They are not trying to take away anyone's healthcare because unless you are a disabled or retired veteran or federal employee, former President or Congressman they are not PROVIDING anyone with healthcare. All Obamacare did was limit who could sell insurance, what policies they could sell, and forced everyone to buy it and helped a few people do that by taxing the holy f--k out of other people. All of which caused the prices to go up unsurprisingly. There is enough bad stuff going on without adding to it things that are not happening. And all this new bill did was turn the administration of this hot mess over to the state governments. And it's moot anyway because McCain, Murkowski, Collins, etc won't vote for it because they hate Trump and take pleasure in foiling him and Rand Paul & Mike Lee won't vote for it because it's Obamacare in different clothes. Personally I am tickled to death with how things are going. Do you realize we are 9 months into Trumps administration and nothing has happened? Not a damn thing except a whole lot of noise over petty BS and a bunch of bad executive orders of Obama rolled back. I'm sorry to see the ACA is still a thing but nothing it was going to be replaced with did anything to improve on it's problems so that's a push. Congress is paralyzed by it's own intransigence, Trump is as incompetent as we thought and can't get out of his own way. The Democrats are continuing their self destruction. Heck, as long as Kim Jong In does not start a war I'd call this a win.
  14. This season is likely t be a long one for us. The Grizz are a season away from needing a full rebuild, but they don't seem to know that yet.
  15. Now reading this: Many of you have read The Long Walk by Slavomir Rawicz and Ronald Downing. It tells the story of 7 men scooped up by the Soviets in the early days of WW2 and sent to a labor camp in Siberia. They escaped and fled south rather than the easier and shorter route East. The walked from Siberia near Yaukust through Mongolia, China, Nepal, and finally to India over an 18 month journey. Only four survived to be found, starving and near death, by a British patrol in northern India in 1941. In the 1950's one of the survivors, Slavomir Rawicz a Polish refugee living in England, told the story to writer Ronald Downing. If you've never read that book, you should. It's extraordinary. But is it completely true? Some historical evidence has been presented that escapees from a soviet gulag were in fact found by the British in India, but there is some doubt if Rawicz was one of them. He may not have made up the story but he may not have actually lived it either This book I'm reading now is a look at the historical veracity of The Long Walk.
  16. And so it begins! http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/communities/north-county/sd-me-harmony-doll-20170913-story.html
  17. Non-interventionism and isolationism are not the same thing.
  18. Leferd beat me to it! https://ballparkdigest.com/2017/09/13/athletics-pick-laney-college-site-for-new-privately-financed-ballpark/ Both Marlins & Rays are playing home series on the road due to hurricane damage. Stanton is stuck on #54 for three days The Tribe are one win away from breaking the AL record and tying the all time win streak record. And two away from the happy hunting grounds. The Dodgers and Nats have clinched. The Astros have a magic number of 2, the Tribe has a magic number of 3. The NL central is a real dogfight. The Marlins and Rays are fading fast.
  19. "Hey Indians fans Just in case you haven't noticed, and judging by the attendance you haven't, the Indians have managed to win a few games here and there" Harry Doyle, Major League 19 wins in a row! The go for tie of the AL record tonight. The '35 Cubs have the all time with 21. Exiting stuff!

  22. Where the hell are we going to find one of those?
  23. On this day in 1966 NBC aired the first episode of a cheesy Sci-Fi series, The episode was entitled The Man Trap. The show was, of course, Star Trek. Happy Birthday Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Scotty and everything that came after. Our childhhod would not have been the same without you!
  24. Yeah me too. Didn't the rebellion win the war in Ep 6? How is the Empir.... excuse me First Order a thing? Maybe they really had no ideas and just copied A New Hope.
