I just saw that. Dammit he was only 66. Smoking claimed another one.

Listen to the audio in the link I posted. That was no 30 round magazine. Even if he did convert and AR you can't make it belt fed. It doe not have the hardware to self feed. AR and AKMs use a spring in the magazine to feed the next round into the rifle. And if you did make an AR full auto you can't control the rate of fire anymore. In other words once you pull the trigger it empties the magazine. But even then the biggest magazine is 30 rounds. The HK-21 & MG-34 can be modified to be belt fed. Both are illegal in the US. Just last week I saw someone convert an ar-15 to eject casings out of the lower receiver and feed in from an p90 50-round box mag. They sell even higher capacity casket fed p90 magazines. I think if someone really wanted to rig something up they could. I don't see how the barrel could stand the heating from the rate of fire. Unless as someone suggested there was more than one. I don't know. That's possible I guess. It still sounds like the pause was just long enough to change a drum to me.

Not necessarily. If he has an unmodified full auto weapon that a civilian would be unable to acquire except from a broker overseas at costs greater than the shooters means you just went from lone gunman to conspiracy. Had the weapon been semi-auto we would not be discussing it. The fact that is was firing in full auto is both important and compelling.

No argument there. That wasn't what you said though.

If it IS and illegal weapon that begs the question "how did he get it". So that detail is important. How does anyone protect themselves anywhere these days? In Spain and France terrorists are killing innocent people with vehicles now. which seems to be less dangerous than guns Not really. In 2016 in the US 40218 people were killed in vehicular related incident and 11652 by firearms (counting both criminal and accidents on firearms. Not sure of the vehicle breakdown)

Not entirely true. NFA weapons registered prior to 1986 are still allowed to be owned by civilians on a state-by-state basis. Since supply is limited and it is difficult to secure repair parts, it wouldn't be unusual for a legal full-auto to cost something north of $10k-20k. But yeah, civilian ownership of post-1986 automatic weapons without a very specific class of dealer's license are entirely prohibited, as is attempting to convert or build your own. None of those are chambered in .223 or 5.56mm. And none but the Thompson .45 is drum fed. And even the Thompson has a 50 round drum or 30 round magazines. This **** shot well over 200 without a stop, Plus the cyclic rate was too high for .30 cal. Even if is was a legal full auto it could only have been a .30 Cal Browning because it's belt fed. But he would have fired a lot more if it were belt fed. Plus he fired from 2 different windows (or there was more than one shooter). The Browning is too big to move easily and needs a tripod to be stable. The M-60 was never available for civilian sale so that is out. I'm sticking with my first supposition, full auto .223 or 5.56mm. Possibly an M-249. At least that is what it sounded like to me. I've heard a SAW fired many times in my day (and fired it more than a few myself) and that is what it sounded like to me.

From whbat they eyewitnesses are describing the shooter was using an automatic weapon. Based on the nummber or rounds fired without stoping and the rate of fire it sounds like a drum fed or belt fed weapon. Those are illegal in all 50 states in case you were wondering. Edit: Listen to this. Definitely full auto. He fired around 200 rounds then stops. Then starts again. My guess is drum fed full auto machine gun. Not loud enough to be one of the .30 cal variants. Probably .223 https://www.msn.com/en-us/video/news/rapid-fire-shots-heard-at-las-vegas-concert/vi-AAsM6WR?ocid=spartanntp&ffid=gz

Today is the last day of the regular season. All playoff positions are decided. All games are meaningless. Except that for most it will be the last game period so the actually mean a lot. Stanton has 59. He's leading off today to get him the most ABs. So today I'm going to realx, drink a lot of iced tea, put the Marlins game on my XM radio and enjoy what really is the last day of summer. After this I'll start really watching football.

I worked around the house all day. I caught the Florida-Vanderbilt part of Tennessee-Georgia games on the radio. Then I made a porkchop & roasted ear of corn on the grill. Two porkchops actually. I made a small one for Sunny. Now it's time to sit on the porch with a glass or two of Kentucky's finest and catch the Marlins-Braves game on the radio & watch the stars come out. Life is pretty good you know?

You remember how they used to tell you drinking kills brain cells? And that the effects were cumulative? I bet you believe them now! IDK, I seem to get smarter when I'm drunk. You'll appreciate this. Back when I taking classes at MDCC in Kendall I had my final exam in Pre-Calculus II on a Tuesday night. I stopped at the Oarhouse bar & restaurant to study a bit before class. Well, it was two for Tuesday night at the Oarhouse and one Icehouse draft led to another, and another... and another. By the time I sat down to take the test I was smashed. I got a 96. There is definitely something to be said for increased performance when you're relaxed.

2017 is going to be remembered as a terrible year for the world in general. The highpoints have been few and the tragedies numerous. And while this hardly qualifies as a highpoint, it's not nothing either: Jeffrey Loria (former Marlins owner) has left the building! He ran a letter in the Miami Herald thanking the fans and proclaiming what an honor it was to ruin the Marlins. Well Mr. Loria, the honor was all yours. Do not let the door hit your ass on the way out. You've completely destroyed one baseball team (the Expos) and nearly destroyed another. Hopefully Pete Rose will be back in baseball before you are. Now the house cleaning begins: https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/mlb/jeter-fires-4-more-marlins-employees/ar-AAsD8SY?li=BBmkt5R&ocid=spartanntp&ffid=gz

I stand by my original prediction. They will dither over this make the right noises, say the right things then quietly scuttle the investigation once they think everyone has forgotten.

Remember the situation the situation in Salt Lake City with the cops who never heard of the 4th or 5th Amendments and wanted to take a victims blood without a warrant? A nurse stopped them and they arrested her, roughly arrested her? More news has come of that. Sadly the accident victim (who WAS a victim by the way) had died from his injuries. But the thing of the story is the Salt Lake City police Union chief is lamenting how the exposure of their bad acts has made "pariahs" of their two fine officers. http://www.sltrib.com/news/2017/09/26/accident-victim-at-center-of-university-hospital-blood-draw-controversy-dies/

You lost me here. It is one thing to no have religious indoctrination in a public school. It's another to restrict religious expression by the people in the school. If a teacher or student is wearing a cross, or star of david, or whatever it is hardly the same thing as pushing religion on a student of fellow faculty member. Certainly it is not the State's job to teach religious doctrine, but when you suggest suppressing the free practice and expression you've gone too far. Now you ARE telling them what to think. Besides, you know the old saying; As long as there are tests there will always be prayer in school

There are times I regret not having children. Then there are other times when I feel relived. How do you raise rational, free thinking adults in a society that demands assimilation and conformity to one brand of ignorance or the other?

Sure it is disrespectful to the flag. Like i said before it's a small and petty gesture. And in all due respect to both you and Mr. Carlos I disagree with both of you. It does not even enter the same league as what he and Tommie Smith did in 1968 in terms of impact or justification. The reason being most of the NFL players participating in this demonstration can't articulate what it's really all about. Ask ten different players you'll likely get 6-7 different answers. Anyone who equates the civil rights problems of today with 1968 needs a serious lesson in perspective. But, if they have a beef and want to demonstrate, more power to them. If people want to boo, boycott, burn merchandise, more power to them. If the President wants to tweet about it (although he should know better) then he's free to do so. If the NFL wants to fire them all, it can. If the owners want to join them on the sidelines and kneel too, good for them. They all have the complete right to do all these things. The only "protection" that exists is from the government. Not from being criticized, or ostracized, or being disagreed with by "not the government". No one was crying First Amendment when that guy at Google was fired for being at a rally a few months ago. I once heard a story about a man walking around Rome shouting insults and blasphemies at God. A citizen walked up to a Cardinal and asked "Father won't you do something?" The priest replied "No my Son. If you believe in the Holy Father then that mans words are between him and God. You should not care. If you don't believe in God then he's insulting no one and you should not care". This situation is just like that. When the anthem is played I stand up and cover my heart. It changes nothing to me if someone else does not. The US does not change into something else because someone else does not. I am accountable for no one's behavior other than my own. As long as they don't insist I join them they can do as they please. That's enough for me,

Who are you and what have you done with Guard Dog? I think I have been very consistent these last 13 years. Whose posts have YOU been reading?

I disagree. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2012/mar/30/black-power-salute-1968-olympics Read the story. No, do not conflate these two things. Totally different men, different time, different kind of protest and message.

Here are some things that are more disrespectful to the American flag than not standing: Secret Courts Supporting on terrorist group because they are fighting another one Threatening to attack other countries Actually attacking other countries for bad reasons or no reasons and perpetuating the conflict forever Free Speech zones Bailouts Using taxpayer money to prop up private banks and enterprises Using taxpayer dollars to prop up foreign government that brutalize their own people are help terrorists kill ours. Allowing business interests to dictate foreign policy. Career politician. A Federal Government that ignores the Constitution A Federal Government that uses the IRS to punish people who complain about them ignoring the Constitution. A Federal Government that thinks they can kill American citizens with weaponized drones and no due process. Shooting unarmed suspects Killing family pets, destroying personal property, and terrorizing children during no-knock raids at the wrong address. Running up $20.4T in debt. Spending $585 Billion more than they raised in 2016. Spending even more this year. Gun Control Using Imminent Domain to seize citizens homes and sell them to a 3rd party. Forcing citizens to purchase a product they don't want under threat. Prosecuting people who expose government corruption. The Executive usurping the power of the Legislature. The Federal Government usurping the power of the States. Long sentences in Federal prisons for victim less crimes that harmed no one. What exactly was it I'm supposed to be outraged over again?
