Uhh... source? Because that sounds suspiciously like some Cobra Commander level bull****. That's it close the thread. Aluminiumtrioxid wins!- The Weird, Random and Interesting Things That Fit Nowhere Else Thread
It was Pioneer 10 we last heard from in 2003. It was launched in 1972. Believe it or not both voyagers are actually travelling much faster. Voyager 1 passed it as the farthest object a few years ago. Voyager 2 will surpass it in 2019. If Pioneer does not hit anything along the way is will pass near the star Alderbaran in 2 million years or so. Pioneer 11 we are still hearing from I believe, Voyager 1 & 2 have already passed it. I don't think it has passed through the heliopause yet. If it continues on it's path it will reach Alpha Scuti in 6-7 million years. Voyager 1 will not pass near any known star, maybe ever. Voyager 2 will pass within a light year of Ross 248 in 300k years or so. Suddenly i feel like playing Stellaris.- Politics Thread: 13 Ghosts
That sounds strangely familiar...- Politics Thread: 13 Ghosts
Libertarians are not right wingers by any means. We have as many problems with R's as we do with D's.- Politics Thread: 13 Ghosts
It looks like Kamala Harris is the "chosen one" by the lefties in the Democrat Party. https://www.usnews.com/news/the-report/articles/2017-12-01/kamala-harris-navigates-the-2020-presidential-landscape Makes sense for them I guess. She is a middle of the road left winger that thinks the government should control or regulate everything that moves. She is of mixed ethnicity which is a plus in that crowd. Anti-second amendment but not entirely anti-business. And she does not have that annoying "think for yourself" independence that they find so irritating in Tusi Gabbard, Jim Webb, and Joe Manchin.- The Weird, Random and Interesting Things That Fit Nowhere Else Thread
Amazing story. Voyager 1 is 13.1 billion miles from Earth and travelling away at a velocity of 11 miles/second (2.09x10^10 km & 17 km/s). It has not used it's main thruster for an trajectory correction since Nov 8 1980. But, with it's small attitude thrusters starting to fail the JPL activated the main thruster after a 37 year cold soak. And it worked. They do NOT build them like that anymore. https://www.yahoo.com/news/nasa-turns-voyager-dormant-thrusters-233207049.html- Best movie by genre WESTERN/COWBOY
"Everyone will say Clint Eastwood is the biggest coward in the west"- Best movie by genre WESTERN/COWBOY
I think Wayne's best movie wasn't a western. It was The Longest Day. I don't think we was the top star in that. Sean Connery was IIRC.- The Weird, Random and Interesting Things That Fit Nowhere Else Thread
Keep going east In n Out. 800 more miles or so!- Best movie by genre WESTERN/COWBOY
What I would love to see is a movie that does good service to The Lincoln County War. Young Guns covered that but it was highly fictionalized and like Hurlshot said, it hasn't aged well. I'd also love to see a movie about the fight for the Powder River Country. What history calls Red Cloud's War. He was a very interesting man. Henry Carrington, the commander of Fort Phil Kearney was also an interesting guy. Red Cloud's complete opposite in every way. I think that would be a compelling movie if done right. The Border War between Kansas and Missouri has never gotten a look. The Outlaw Josey Wales started at the end but no other movie has touched it that I know of.- Best movie by genre WESTERN/COWBOY
Silverado???? No way. Let's see...top 10 in no particular order: True Grit, the 2012 version. (Sorry Duke, that movie was better because it followed the book, yours didn't.) The Outlaw Josey Wales (this would be my pick for #1) The Shootist (tied with The Searchers as John Waynes best western) The Searchers Unforgiven Dances With Wolves (the only place you'll hear one of the old Lakota languages on screen) The Revenant (Western, yes. But not Cowboy. It predates the "old west" era") Jeremiah Johnson (Based on a true story, this would be my #2 pick) 3:10 to Yuma (Both versions are good) El Dorado Honorable Mention goes to: The Sons of Katie Elder Hell on Wheels (the series) Pale Rider (weird but pretty good) A Fist Full of Dollars- Politics Thread: 13 Ghosts
All the deplorable comment did was piss off a lot of people who hated her anyway.- Politics Thread: 13 Ghosts
The closest thing we have to real communists here are the Greens. And they are not all that close. The actual US Communist Party has endorsed the Democrat Presidential Candidate every year since 2000 until last year. They made no endorsement last year.- Politics Thread: 13 Ghosts
You guys can forget Tulsi Gabbard. Unless there is a complete change in Democrat Party leadership she is dead to them. She supported Sanders from the get go and did not switch back to Clinton after. The Republicans may have an elephant as their symbol but it's the Dems who never forget. There is a real good chance she will be facing a strong primary challenge in 2018 with the blessing and backing of the DNC.- Politics Thread: 13 Ghosts
Sanders message is not going to play well outside of the bluest of blue states. And even there the appeal is limited to the idealists who don't understand that, absent some radical changes, the US is just not set up to have the kind of economy they want to build.- You did WHAT Today
There are things to like about Memphis. The food and music scene are definitely #1 & #2 on any list. There is a lot in the way of historical interest here too. But from a resident's point of view once you've seen it, you've seen it. and a lot of it has been let go to seed too. Of course I live over an hour north of town so I don't really liver here at all. Giftd Millington is a ghost town since NAS Memphis closed. Covington is actually bigger now.- You did WHAT Today

I was just about to post this from a different source. https://apnews.com/d5593368a4b849e792e385550823cab1/Expanding-DNA's-alphabet-lets-cells-produce-novel-proteins Fascinating stuff. Of course as a fan of post-apocalyptic fiction I read news stories like this than think "will this be the trigger?"- You did WHAT Today
The city of Memphis does not have a whole lot going for it to recommend it as a place to live. It's small, old in a sad way rather than an appealing one, and about 40% of it is just flat out f-----g dangerous. But if you like live blues music this is the capital of the world. Went to Lafayette's tonight. three bands, each better than the last. Plus I got to spend some time with someone I haven't seen in far too long.- Posting A Funny - The Thread
