Apparently you've read different history books than I have. I remember Lenin was pissed about allied intervention on behalf of the Whites in the east following the October Revolution. That was less about stopping the Bolshiveks than it was keeping Russia in the war. But after the war there was very little interaction between the USSR and the western powers. By the early 1930's relations were normal, trade was regular and the USSR was hiring American and British engineers and the like for their growth.

Today is is cold as hell. Frost covering everything. Sounds like a good day to binge watch Stranger Things but unfortunately work intrudes. As soon as the coffee is done I'm heading over to Brownsville then to Martin to check the roads and fences on my properties out that way. I wasn't going to bring the pups because it's pretty cold but I'll be gone too long not to. They are, of course, excited about the prospect.

That is actually a very generous assessment of the man.

You beat me to it! Hey Shady is right about a lot of things. His choice in Star Trek captains is one of them! Sisko was the most interesting because he wasn't perfect.

Lincoln Chafee is entering the Presidential race. He is a candidate for the LP nomination. Well, considering he's running against two party hacks with a history of saying stupid things, a former NH State Senator and convicted felon, and some guy no one has ever heard of, I'd say the nomination is his for the asking. I don't think much of Chaffe but if he is our candidate I'll vote for him. Simply put there are no better options. I CAN not vote for a Democrat, and I WILL not vote for Trump.

What is so great about Switzerland? Couldn't say really. But their flag is a big plus!

Hey, you know me. I'm a huge fan of Quixotic political endeavors. But the House of Representatives and the Senate should have agreed to a Congressional Censure in lieu of this futile impeachment. Sun Tzu would tell you that if a battle can't be won it should not be fought. I expect Pelosi & Schiff could have gotten a lot of Republicans on board by selling that as an alternative to this messy impeachment on the condition of Republican participation. A bipartisan Censure might not be the whole cake but at least it would be a piece of it. Right now we have nothing. Less than nothing really because Trump is crowing like a rooster. His support appears to have hardened among voters. And, worst of all, the Executive Branch is even further empowered. The worst possible outcome and it was the ONLY outcome that could have happened. Stupid. Sometimes it's wiser to take the justice you know you can have. At the very least it could have given the eventual Democrat nominee a tool to use against him. Instead... nothing. The 3 yard screen pass can often get you farther than a hail Mary attempt.

The Buccaneers seem to be pursuing Phillip Rivers. I am still torn an Jamies Winston. There is no doubting his ability to throw the ball. There is also no doubting is inability to read defenses. I'd hate to see them give up on him and he goes does a Steve Young, or a Doug Williams, or a Vinny Testaverde, or a Trent Dilfer elsewhere. At the same time how do you pay him $30M per season when he is literally sabotaging your chances to win games he puts you in a position to win? Rivers is older and wiser. He will have a better team around him in Tampa than he did with the Chargers. He can win games. But his career is also riddled with interceptions. Is he an upgrade for about the same price tag? Don't know the answer. I was furious after that season ending pick six in OT against the Falcons. I wanted JW gone from town. But a dispassionate analysis of the options means JW might still be the better option. At least for one more season. Rivers will want multiple years. But drafting a QB this year is a must. No matter which way they go. I still thing Fromm from UGA, Perkins from UVA, and Love from USU might be there in the 2nd or even 3rd rounds. https://bucswire.usatoday.com/2020/02/06/the-bucs-interest-in-philip-rivers-seems-legitimate/

The recipie I used is in a linked video a few pages back On your second point I remember when I was in school. I had a exam in multi-variable equations (matrices) that I was woefully unprepared for. So after I got off work I stopped at this little bar in Kendall called the Oarhouse. The plan was to cram from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM for my Pre-Calculus II class at 7:30. Well, that night they had Icehouse Draft for $.75. So one led to another and another. By 7:00 I was sauced and had not studied at all. I stumbled across the street to the MDCC campus, took my test and stumbled back for a night cap. The following week I found I missed only part of one question. Imagine that.

Agreed. I would not trade our system for any other.

I tried that last year. I made 15 gallons of it in three five gallon water machine bottles. It... didn't turn out like I expected.

Three fingers in a glass with two ice cubes. Don't you DARE dilute Four Roses! Good whiskey has a distinct taste. Four Roses is a rye mash so it has a light and spicy taste. It's very smooth and clean on the back end. Something darker like Knob Creek or Blanton's you might be happy with a splash of soda water or a bit of lemon or lime to even it out. Four Roses, Woodford Reserve, Buffalo Trace, and Belle Meade are all best enjoyed neat or on ice IMO. Especially the small batch versions. Old Forrester Prohibition Style is also very nice but really hard to find. If you are going to make ****tails I'd suggest Makers Mark, Larceny, Bookers, or Eagle Rare. They all use shorter aging so the flavor of the mix blends better. A Maker's Mark whiskey sour is my favorite mixed drink.

I bought a liter of Four Roses Single Barrel bourbon. I haven't had a drink in weeks. That streak gets ended tonight.

Anyone watching the XFL this weekend?

So, Trump walks into the National Prayer Breakfast this morning, a bipartisan event I might add, waking the newspaper with the headline "ACQUITTED" as though he were channeling Harry Truman. You know a better man would act with a little more humility and a little more restraint today. Especially since he literally got away with something. He is not stupid. He knows this. If you thought he was an arrogant ass before there will be no living with him now. He just can't help himself. When the only tool you posses is a hammer you treat the world as if it were a nail.

Just an observation here. When Mitt Romney was running for President he was called a misogynist, racist, a liar, and an elitist. Well, that last one might be sort of true but none of the rest was. John Bolton has been called a lair, a warmonger, "corrupt to his very soul" according to Rep, Henry Waxman CA. (D) who said so on the House floor. Today they are the heroes. The knights in shining armor to the very people who just ten years ago came short of suggesting they be shot in the street. There has always been a certain whoreish quality to marriages of political convenience. But this is a bit much.
