  1. Do you recommend it? It looks cool but haven't tried it yet.
  2. Again you claim that I hate males and that I want to clad all female video game characters in burlap sacks. I'm clearly not going to convince you otherwise, but feel free to pretend I said that...
  3. I'm not really sure what you guys are taking issue with--my daring to suggest that they give your nubile elf characters some sensible protection from orcish swords? I clearly struck a nerve, and this is turning into a big argument about whether video games are sexist. All I said was that given the influx of female gamers in recent years, there are things artists and marketers could do to make the more "hardcore" games appealing to women. And one of those things is not having ads like this: That's ALL I'm saying. I don't understand why you're jumping on me for daring to question the wisdom of...whoa, that is hypnotic...I can change her what?
  4. Well, I'm not going to convince you guys that there are other valid aesthetics for RPGs besides "hormonal teenage male fantasy". I think such a direction could open up the hobby a bit to the other 51% of the population. Your flames are telling, though--in this little neck of the gaming universe, not much has changed in twenty years.
  5. It may not be news to you, but it was to me and I wanted to share the video because hey, gamers like swords.
  6. NY Times video of longsword fighting as a sport. Looks a lot more fun than fencing!
  7. Oh, I agree. I never said anything about making females superior, so I'm not sure where this "femi-nazi" vibe is coming from. All I said was that it's extremely obvious, looking at the art of most CRPGs, that they're pandering to an exclusively male aesthetic. It's time that changed. The art I'm seeing for Pillars of Eternity gives me hope!
  8. Don't worry, nobody's going to take away your two-piece bikini "armor". Sorry for dreaming of a world in which guys can actually admit to liking CRPGs in female company.Haha, yeah, dressing the women as nuns is sure going to make crpgs perfectly non-geeky!*snicker* Right, because giving the female barbarian a proper "breastplate" is totally unsexy. You kids and your boy's club...Point: missed! Not at all. If anything you're ignoring the possibility that games could be fun, and the characters attractive, without every elven priestess look like something out of Playboy. It's not about making games non-geeky. Geeky is good. It's about not scaring women away by pandering exclusively to a male market. The OP's article is evidence that maybe, just maybe, things can start changing in this smelly tree house we call CRPG fandom. But go ahead and mock me. Nothing changes if nothing changes

  10. What, you can't do that now ? What kind of idiot women do you hang around with ? And what kind of nerd utopia do you live in? I want to move there.
  11. They're already awarding loot and/or body parts for slaying monsters. Methinks this "degenerate gaming" argument is just an excuse to not have to balance combat XP. That's the real reason they're staying away from it. If they didn't want to reward combat at all, enemies wouldn't drop anything, and there wouldn't be so damned many unavoidable fights. That's the other reason it feels odd that you don't earn token experience from combat--the sheer number of monsters that are thrown at you. If PoE's designers really wanted a dialog-centric or stealth-centric game, they'd need to drastically change the map and encounter designer; you'd have to really go out of your way to find baddies. They don't want to deal with balancing XP rewards. And sadly there's an army of OE shills who will defend their every decision, no matter how silly. When the game releases, if they do not address this, I guarantee it will be noticed and complained about. It's not going to ruin the game, but it will be a significant and puzzling flaw.

  13. But isn't it way more exciting searching for our replies? Nice OE response
  14. I couldn't get into D:OS. Two protagonists in a single-player game was awkward, and the writing/dialog redundant and nowhere near the level of Pillars of Eternity. I'm sure the game has plenty to recommend it, based on what I've seen, but it's just not my cup of tea. Also, insta-dying to some trap outside of town was frustrating...
  15. Wait, this isn't an Onion article? No, this if for real! Awesome. Now if they would just stop drawing females in RPGs and Magic: The Gathering to look like porn stars, we might get some more "hardcore" lady gamers. Pillars of Eternity is so far pretty tasteful in this regard.
  16. My "other PoE", Path of Exile! The new patch adds crafting masters, can't get enough.
  17. I'm having this issue as well. Bringing up the character screen shows garbled text, no portrait, and an enabled Level Up button that should be disabled. Clicking Level Up takes me through the level up process for the BB Fighter, but his char model isn't displayed. After clicking Done in the Level Up screen, the screen goes black with a cursor and stays that way. Granted, the Level Up button shouldn't be clickable...just saying what happens
  18. The save date/time on savegames is really hard to read at 1920x1080 resolution. Maybe rather than have two lines like this: Saturday, September 13th 9:00 pm Use a larger font and put it on a single line, with an abbreviate format like: 09/13/14 9:00pm
  19. The problem is indeed that you can't tell what your characters are doing--or not doing. My solution goes too far for your taste, but that doesn't mean I wasn't addressing the problem. PS--being a "hardcore gamer" has nothing to do with how much UI feedback you enjoy.
  20. When I click my barbarian's Frenzy ability during combat, it doesn't always activate. Sometimes he just keeps on whaling away at his enemy, ignoring my commands. I sometimes have to click several times to get him to use the ability. It's not a delay, either--I've waited many seconds after clicking Frenzy to make sure of this.
