Can we say, "out of context," Eagle? He was responding to a specific line of things that people said. Not the same meaning if he just came out of the blue and said he didn't care about geek messageboards. If he's posting, he obviously doesn't have a problem with posting, and nothing he said gives me, personally, the impression that he's denying that he does or even has an urge to.

Do not go the "all endings happened" route plz.
nightcleaver replied to xtrazx75's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
In history, and thus as a pattern of human behavior, people often collaborate with eachother to benefit themselves, and then turn on eachother. WWII: Communism in the east and capitalism in the west united against the Axis powers, but Stalin was pretty comparably horrible for the things he did to russia under his (totalitarian) "guidance". I think, when you say the Sith have a self-destructing nature, it's describing a trend, rather than describing who they are unilaterally. In other words, Sith tend to think what's best for them (the Sith) is to be selfish and find the best leader by killing eachother, which is how they are self-destructive. Given that that's their motivation, (their motivation can't obviously be to self destruct, haha) it's reasonable to assume that they would kick Revan out if they thought, say, he had lost the right to his title by turning back to the light and killing Malak after Malak had taken Revan's throne rightfully. Even that is arguable, and that's one way to explain the multiple factions. The two could split into more and more even as they had less collective guidance from an overall lord, because individual differences would start to come out more as they thought of themselves less and less as a group fighting the Republic. After all, they had all this power amassed, the Republic was already fallen, right? Then one group has control of the star forge, and won't give it up. The other's are jealous, maybe they go in on the ground but can't take it. Then one faction decides to take it out, and boom, there goes one of the factions (or most of it) along with the star forge. Maybe bastila dies that way? Maybe Revan escapes, or both of them escape, foreseeing what would happen and letting them go at it by themselves until sufficiently united for Bastila/Revan to come back? Lightside: The Jedi, slaughtered by the events of the star forge, the sith, and mandalorian wars, Dantooine destroyed, (and all these collective events, if you think about it, would especially give a hard hit to those who were especially high up in the chain of command among the jedi, giving THEM little to no collective guidance, thus scattering the Jedi order, but not killing the jedi officially) are nearly gone, and not a sufficient force in the galaxy anymore to face outside threats. The Sith forces wouldn't logically all be around the star forge. I'm sure some portion of the fleet would be out weakening the Republic, limiting the Republic's maneurability in the general scheme. In other words, some sith would remain, but they would be scattered. Maybe squabbles similar to the darkside ending would keep them seperated from then on. All of these groups would be pecking at eachother and the republic, as they would be above. Maybe Bastila/Revan have troubles with the council, maybe Bastila exiles herself when Revan runs away, seeing as how dependent she was on him/her, and how fragile she is right after falling to the dark side. Perhaps Revan goes to the outer rim to find himself again, tracing his steps on the outskirts of the galaxy while stuff starts happening. Maybe he does so he can bring back the tactician he so desperately needs for the Republic, or maybe he just takes the scattered Sith clans as a joke. In any case, they'll find a story (through a lot more work, obviously, than we can do just thinking about it in our own little heads without the resources), probably, that fits as many as possible without correcting anything that was said in the former game. -
I have a bad feeling about KOTOR 2.....
nightcleaver replied to xtrazx75's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I totally disagree. I couldn't even finish Torment where I've complete KoToR twice(started a lot more times). KoToR is the only game I've complete in a long time. Usually I get to a point where I'm bored and I know it is only a matter of sitting there long enough and I'll complete the game. That is about the time I quit and never touch the game again. It was KoToR's story that had me wanting to finish the game. For me if this game lives up to nothing else it has to live up to the story of KoToR. Heck KoToR has had a better story than the last two SW movies. While I find this teams work good they lack something that Bioware seems to have. I can't really say what it is, but it has been just missing in all their games. I bought Fallout 1&2(only completed 1), Baldurs Gate, Icewind Dale, and Planescape. I got bored on all except Fallout and only completed because I was bored. They start great concepts, but they just can't follow through with the game/story. I have to say while KoToR2 sounds good(like the others did) I really have my doubts. They don't suck, they just don't live up to their potential. Are you talking about their WRITING or their STORY? The two are very different things. Or do you have no idea? I understand that people dislike how vague and surreal torment is, find the dark themes boring even, but that's the story... not the writing. Technically, KOTOR didn't have the room to be as good in writing as PS: T, because KOTOR didn't have the descriptions of the latter game. The only writing was dialogue or direction for a quest. As well, KOTOR was a much shorter game, and the characters overall were thusly left more incomplete than in PS: T. The writing of the two games was fundamentally different. The writing in KOTOR never gave me chills, nor did it really make anything visualize clearer than the graphics could represent. Maybe you didn't intend it that way, to attack their writing, but in that case, Here's what sounded wrong: You mention potential. They can't follow through. They lack something Bioware seems to have. You're acting like you're judging their work, where, from the vague descriptions you give, you seem only to be giving your personal response. So please, if you meant no offense, be more clear. I'm sure that if you somewhat intended that, you did it to defend your perspective, but I'm sure no one here would really be bothered by it. -
Oi, I thought we were talking about the older woman, because that's what he said. Maybe someone got the two confused, didn't know the white haired woman wasn't the same as the old woman? The white haired woman is younger, and looks NOTHING like bastila in the concept art I've seen.

What do you think the twist(s) will be in KOTOR II
nightcleaver replied to Tyrell's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I liked it just fine, not as a twist, but as an interesting part of the story. I definitely saw it coming as well, though I tried to deny it. It's sort of funny, when I first got the idea was by the implication I read on a forum message board, and didn't think that that could really be the quote unquote "big twist" of the day. I was just like, "oh, ok, the PC = Revan. Sure, that's nifty." Then I realized, five minutes later, that that was probably the plot twist. It's sort of similar to the "I'm your father" thing, meaning "I'm a part of you," whereas KOTOR is, "I AM you." I'll rephrase again, regardless of whether you like the story or not: I don't think it's anything you or anyone else could have thought of. Something different and equivalent, but certainly not the same thing. There was enough depth to the being revan issue that I found it interesting and unique. I know my optimism is sort of sickening, but there's enough **** that makes the world go 'round that I try to take the best of both worlds. (optimism and cynicism) -
Feats - Changes and additions
nightcleaver replied to Sorwen's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Looking at the styles on the website, I don't like it much :/ too tier oriented, not quite what I was thinking of. And sure, I do that too. Part of the reason I post is much as I do is to get used to the idea of my ideas being scrutinized quite publically and argued with, so that I might seem less opinionated. All's well. -
Feats - Changes and additions
nightcleaver replied to Sorwen's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
What do you mean case by case basis? I was getting confused, sorry if it sounded angry - it wasn't at you. You only had one sentence. I didn't read anything out of it, but I tried to make sense of it. I'm sure you're smarter than that. Just ignore the first paragraph, then, and look at the second. Why would there be no fighting styles in different time periods? It's like saying there wouldn't be levels or feats, such as force jump. Or maybe saying experience would be different for killing a rancor because they hadn't refined that system yet. EDIT: Ok, I get it, haha. nevermind. -
Feats - Changes and additions
nightcleaver replied to Sorwen's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Umm... WHOA. Talk about obscure logic here. Why wouldn't the styles be a way of expressing how a character fights? Considering the disarray of the Jedi Order, I can't imagine that there'd be any uniformity in fighting styles. Yes, there tends to be the traditional doctrine of war which expands over time, but THAT fundamentally derives from what people know works. I could imagine someone who is more finesse talented/oriented would definitely learn to use their lightsaber in such a style, regardless of game mechanics by the d20 book. I don't think fictional star wars history cares about the mechanics of such a GAME rulebook, either. In other words, I can imagine there'd be no term used by the characters, even mentally, to express these styles, but they would most definitely exist whether or not the characters had names for them. I couldn't see someone with the musculature and stature of a three year old using a lightsaber by throwing their whole body in it, can you? Not when they can find ways around their weaknesses. I think it's a neat idea, but I doubt they'll go this far with the animation. I don't know crap about what it would really require time and effort wise, but it sounds pretty exhaustive. -
Her name, if I'm remembering correctly, is Kreia or somesuch. Maybe Quatra/Bastila changed her name, though, and that would be revealed in the story.

What do you think the twist(s) will be in KOTOR II
nightcleaver replied to Tyrell's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
And in that, was there the issue of the protaganist being a former ANTAGONIST? I had some other details, too, but they're escaping me right now. Look, it fit well. The plot twist wasn't just that you were Revan, but everything that surrounded that realization. Like someone else said before, it's not what you do, but more how you do it. The twist WAS original, but not because amnesia is an original idea. Soap Opera's deal with amnesia all the time, so amnesia is way overrused. My point: the plot twist WAS original. The end. -
*shrug* I guess the assumption is that they'd be sticking mostly to d20 rules. In that case, more levels is bad. What I mean is, lets have two systems: one with forty and one with twenty levels. The level forty in one system is equivalent to the level twenty in the other, with more steps on the way. There'd be more level ups to manage, and a generally less limited, more gradient system of levelling.

I think the Sentinel is the bard of Star wars; jack of all trades. Think about it, he's skill oriented, something of a backup character design with his force immunities and so has a support role, and is skills-oriented. As with the bard, either players aren't creative enough to use him fully, or the creators of the system are just too careful about overbalancing and making the character class too powerful. On a side note: Yes, I know these developers are different. I was trying to say, though with common human stupidity and clumsiness messed up saying, was that people repeated questions over and over again even when the devs said they weren't going to answer. Didn't someone ask about length/planetsize after someone said that was impossible to know?
-
Or that. Maybe I'm just silly or something, but I don't see how it makes a difference, technically. Right?
-
More levels doesn't mean more power, necessarily. Just more, well... levels. It's imaginable that you could blur the steps or make the enemies more powerful, or just add world mechanic type challenges (traps and tricks, difficult mission goals) to make the levels worthwile. You grow above and beyond certain difficulties, with new ones to get used to. I will agree, however, that if it ends up with you having enough powers and skills, it get's pretty gratuitous - cite, the ToB expansion to BGII. In the first KOTOR, I did feel sort of cut short at level 20, just because you leveled so incredibly fast in that game. I could imagine a game with about the same pace, but maybe 25-30 levels would be more satisfying. In my game, on the leviathan, I could fight Dark Jedi Master's with my FISTS and still win. That's pretty gratuitous - I think that's more a matter of overadjusted difficulty level than character levels. After all, what are you on the leviathan - level 16?? Regardless, I heard somewhere there was no level 20 level cap any longer, and I would assume you break off to the prestige classes after that, maybe? I guess it's all at the semi rumour stage right now. Oh well.

However, this is my theory on what will happen with bastila. (haha) I think she could easily be ONE of the Sith lords, even if she goes lightside. I couldn't honestly imagine her (and I really like and am extraordinarily accepting of Bastila) going completely straight and even LEADING a resistance RIGHT after her fall. Remember when she said she doubted her strength to face Malak? I did, too. Yuthura Ban (if you had this conversation, which is difficult to find) mentions the difficulties of being completely straight and fighting temptation with guidance and love from her Master's - but imagine Bastila after KoTOR. I think she'd be a wreck, even if she wanted to stay in the light. I think she might even give up her power, except Sith lords would definitely be hunting her for her battle meditation. I sort of imagine that she'd be dark side (not necessarily Sith) and maybe have a small force of her own that defends her from stray Sith forces. Maybe I'll write a fanfic... But yeah, maybe it's just the contrast between the white haired woman and the sith mask that suggests this to me, but I DO think the sith mask looks eerily feminine. Particularly that headress thing, though the face itself is masculine. I wonder if that mask is a specific villain, or represents the Sith lords in general? Hmm...

Most assuredly, he did run away even if you went female romance. It's established fact, though, that if the triggers are working right, you HAVE to kill carth at the VERY end before boarding the hawk. He stops you and tries to redeem you, and fails. ADD: And, by the way, here's what the official announcement says, available via mainsite=>games=>kotorII link. Five years after the events from the award winning Knights of the Old Republic, the Sith Lords have hunted the Jedi to the edge of extinction and are on the verge of crushing the Old Republic. With the Jedi Order in ruin, the Republic

Am I the only one that realized the dev's are probably incredibly busy, and DON'T have the time to go around to every forum on the face of the planet, scrounge up information from their team, and write a carefully thought out reply (they have roughly eight months left, I believe, and considering what they still don't know...)? Not like saying this will do any good... I guess people are going to continue repeating some question of theirs over and over, the dev's will never read it, but they'll persist nonetheless. Just think: what on earth would you do with yourselves if they hadn't announced this? Not to say you shouldn't ask anything, it's fun to do - just as long as you have no expectations of them answering.

Jeremy Soule is a little spotty, I think. I liked some of his pieces a whole lot, but then most of them were pretty average. Some were, I don't know why, but they were aggravatingly subdued to me. Background music shouldn't distract from what's going on, but it shouldn't be any less interesting. If you make it less interesting, it'll wear thin on my ears. Probably other's, too. The battle music was crap - don't remember any of it that I like or remember. Was this different for anyone else? But anyway... I really liked all the planet intro music, and that Bastila Shan piece. God, it could create a mood anywhere and anytime.

I had trouble keeping track of which data pad was which, and which was important. Naming more of them would be a definite help.
-
It's not... don't expect you to know, but it's been mentionedin several other places on the board. You're a former Jedi who was in exile during the events of KOTOR, starting after the mandalorian wars, which you're a veteran of. Chris has also explicitly stated that there won't be ANY amnesia or personality disorders.

Will the protagonist be Revan?
nightcleaver replied to Jonny_Evil's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
When you lose touch with the force, you lose it. No skill degradation whatsoever; it's gone. As for the explanation of you being a veteran, well... you're the PC. The PC is always hailed as way more powerful than the NPC's just because the player is controlling them... rightfully so. It follows that a veteran who lost touch with the force, quite likely the only thing they ever used to fight, would still remember the strategy of war, which they'd get from the player. It's not a matter of being out of shape, just a matter of not having the force. Well, that's what I'm thinking. -
it's nice to see a release date for a change
nightcleaver replied to poolofpoo's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
They'll meet the release date. Whether or not they push back the release date, though.... -
methinks they mistook the words "struggling to reconnect with the force" as amnesia. No no, very different thing. Sheesh, know your star wars.

Seven planets, we know two of them....
nightcleaver replied to Ivan the Terrible's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I'm really hoping they DON'T reuse assets for the sequel - or at least if they do it, they do it in ingenious ways that make it look like entirely new content. From what I can tell, it sounds like obsidian wouldn't be unoriginal like that. Though, if you don't have a lead artist, things might be difficult for that. Could be why they're looking for a lead artist. Who knows. -
They AREN'T going to answer you affirmatively, even if they are. Their publishers say no, is the talk I've heard about here, to releasing anything about the game. That said, I will seriously be laughing hard if we find out the KOTOR 2 stuff was just a hoax... and CRYING!!! *sniff*
