  1. I think they were trying to have fewer skill points to balance the game because of how few skills they had compared to the PnP version... Here's how that should've worked: the number of skill points would be limited. It would still make 18 in INT not comparable to 18 in any other stat, but it would be better than forcing you to spend a bunch of points just to get a bonus from the Intelligence stat. Bring this up on the Bioware boards, and the dev's would get insulted. Maybe Gaider would make a smart-ass remark... great PR... *sigh*
  2. Now that they're done with Jade, Bioware might put some people on the next KotOR. I don't know how much they're going to invest in their upcoming (not very soon, though - think 2-3 years) IP, but it doesn't have a publisher yet. seeing that, I don't think they'll simply going without any sponsored products in all that time. Although, Valve essentially did that very thing, and Bioware seems to have a much better money-maker in NWN. It'll be pretty absurd if KotOR III got handed over to a third developer. Just, please... don't make the droids, the wookie, the old mentor, the rogue, the princess into cliche's. It's fun, to recreate the magic, but after these TWO games... it'll be quite enough. Personally, I'm tired of the Revan storyline, and it'll get pretty friggin hard to make any sensible continuation after this. Now they have to keep in account the endings of BOTH games that came before in the series. I hope they DON'T make another KotOR, but I wouldn't mind another Star Wars game in the same vain. I think I can manage for one more game, but after that the story has really lost it's momentum. I don't see a third Star Wars RPG in this tradition truly following in the footstep's of the other's, except to maybe make a couple references. I know I won't be likely to buy a third. And wouldn't it be neat to have another SW RPG happen during a Republic time period that hasn't been explored? Maybe a game covering only one or two planets, or one that has multi somewhat like NWN (which everyone whines for).
  3. Just like lightsabers, eh... so shut up I was thinking miniaturization as well.
  4. What I mean is; I don't know it'd be at the forefront of his mind. Revan would have to announce his identity or take the uprising anyway, and then Malak would hear about it or it would be too late, or it wouldn't matter at all. But yeah, I definitely see that it would be important to him. I'm sure he might even be afraid of Revan's cunning to totally circumvent all the above mentioned issues, but for some reason I imagine him as more focused on "finding" Revan, building a fleet, and destroying the Republic than on who's leading the Academy.
  5. Well, anyway, I'd like to see these rules. I was working on a system of my own, but maybe what you mentioned works just fine. It's agreed that they should make their own ruleset. They wanted to change it, but they changed it until it sucked. To be honest, I'm pretty annoyed at the whole system that totally rules everything, yet seems so stupid. People handle it like the bible of all roleplaying, even though the only reason they use those rules is, frankly, because they have a monopoly over the market. I think a CRPG needs something more complex, unless the purpose is to recreate the "PnP feel". The class system totally limits character development - regardless of feats, as far as I know - and strict DM's who couldn't tell balanced from, well, their ass, refuse to let players manage or have any fun/creativity with the system. Maybe it was wrong to bring the maker's into it - perhaps it's just the stupidity of the DM's I've been around - but seeing that they, being quite knowledgable about rulesets and such (or they ought to have been, I'm not sure), blame it on the rules and don't believe in breaking them for any reason, I'm bound to throw a mild insult about the "big guy's" education for being so nearsighted, and yet so totally worshipped. I don't know about you, but for the D20 system I've grown to know, it would be pretty sad that educated people see their ideas as so absolute when THEY (the Maker's themselves) don't even have a college education. It would be fine, however, with the revisions you mentioned (assuming they do what I think they do) and intelligent dm's that have a concept for balance and fun. And regardless of education, if their system is good and there's good reason (not just blind faith of everyone) to follow it, it should be followed. And finally, thank you for handling this better than I expected you to. I really needed a, "kick in the pants." Or maybe that's a little too nice.
  6. What's to say he would be thinking about it or care?
  7. I agree, to an extent. Except I think the problem is more, "how would we know?" who's idea it really is.
  8. Why do you think I wouldn't care how she looked? It's just a freakin' story, shut up.
  9. Yeah, I know the "standards" in that sense, indalecio. Though I would argue that the most beautiful have something a-symmetrical in an almost completely symmetrical face. I can't imagine they have a way to prove anything beyond a correlation of symmetry and attractiveness. Symmetry can be boring. I'm sure you agree to some extent, but it's fun to talk about it... JohnDoe: I would agree that it's not a top priority, but the concept art is FAR more attractive than the character model is... and to be quite honest, it's hard to imagine anyone naturally looking that bad without some major radiation poisoning. Maybe this is the fallout touch people have been wanting... And no, I don't really care that much about how she looks either, even if I'm romancing her. I'll probably do it anyway, just for the story. That opinion is likely far from the majority opinion, however. I think I saw a couple of devs read in this topic a few days back. I think one was the A-guy that you always see around, and is now a moderator, and the other one... I don't remember who he was, so I'm not sure if an artist has seen it. They've read, though, whatever it counts for.
  10. yeah, light powered armor was good... the blue-striped black suit with a grey band around the midsection, right? I believe that was only for PC/X-box live download. Still a part of the game, though.
  11. I've known a few (natural) red-heads that had her general look (of the concept art, not the character model apparent in the screenshot we're all whining about).
  12. Also, item manipulation is being done a little bit already, if you didn't know. You can use your repair skill to construct new things using old gagdets, and a few items can't be bought or find, but only made. ( I think)
  13. At one time they were planning on doing that, but at some point they brought up (forums or interview, not really sure) that there was a good chance they would cut those extra characters, probably due to time constraints.
  14. Blah... (my turn to be cynical, teehee...) D20 rules were made by up-tight dm's who might not have had a college education - in other words, I'm not too confident about their intelligence, though I'm sure they're perfectly intelligent. In real life there's some imbalance. In real life, people bleed to death - but they can also rest 24 hours a day. Not sleep, but rest - and most people can even SLEEP on the ground without a stupid binky. The hitpoint system doesn't work like real life. Now, I wouldn't mind any of those problems, save that those limitations fail to make the game fun. The only reason I use the argument that it's not realistic is because I know someone is likely to jump in and point out that those things ARE realistic, if I don't cover them. The hitpoint system makes it necessary to deal as much damage as possible. Getting a blow in isn't the point. This makes melee, even ranged (bow) support very boring and unimaginative. They make trade-offs like damage for attack, attack for ac... etc., but it's still pretty lame for the most part. I have the repeated issue with a number of D20 games that fighting one monster is almost exactly like fighting another, which is again unrealistic. This is, in fact, because of the HP system. It's far from perfect. This is why I don't like the idea of attaching Force powers to vitality. A temporary hit to AC would solve the problem, while not causing other problems such as using healing packs to use more force powers. Honestly, if PC's were allowed to be dragons, I wouldn't mind letting them be a LITTLE more powerful than the other PC's. I would prefer a tradeoff, though, to make other character's feel more useful - A dragon would be extremely large, and maybe limited to his lair, and certainly wouldn't be the adventuring type. In KotOR - fewer skill points does this, and the fact that (as in the movies) non-jedi will use their non-jedi skills throughout the game, and thus be useful in individual ways that the Jedi can't be. Honestly, Luke Skywalker did the most important things - but he seemed to do the least. While he was capable of doing far greater things than other non-Force users, he wasn't capable in the same way. In KotOR (I and II) we have the option to make Force training limiting; you have Force skills, but since you've spent so much of your life training them, you have little room for other skills, unless Force enhanced. Jedi should be more powerful than other character's - that's the point, that's their "special ability". Combat should be a bit easier for them; but keep in mind that the Jedi don't deflect every bolt, and they have to get up close to do any damage. (unless they spam with the Force) Talented bounty hunter's are perfectly capable of taking on a Jedi; their advantage is their skill. And from what I've seen, that's exactly what Obsidian is working on doing.
  15. "Five years after the events from the award winning Knights of the Old Republic, the Sith Lords have hunted the Jedi to the edge of extinction and are on the verge of crushing the Old Republic. With the Jedi Order in ruin, the Republic
  16. It was a lot more fun than the OC of NWN. Something I think COULD be improved: The force powers and feats are a little conspicuous. I think, by the animations alone, we can pretty much tell what's going on in battle. Perhaps something to turn those off if we don't want them? Those colors and such are a little too DnD for me.
  17. They didn't look like cubes to me, but I could see a wierd star-shape at the tip of the saber when I was playing the computer version. X-box was too blurry to see that, I think. Which version were you on, anyway? I remember blur of the lightsabers, as when I'd pause or take a screenshot I would see the blur - though it tended to be a bit crooked. I think in the PC version it's less noticeable with certain graphical effects turned off. I agree about swords and lightsabers being different, though. I suspect melee weapons will all have the same animations as eachother, improved though they may be from the first KotOR.
  18. I've been asking for that, too.
  19. I agree with that.
  20. They won't, though I'm starting to sound like a broken record.... sheesh.
  21. Is it confirmed, "disbanded", or are you just the last known Jedi capable of standing up to the sith?
  22. You don't, unless there's a bug, fight the three Sith at the entrance of the academy WITH any party members. Your party members are still inside, as they did a forced transition to the temple.
  23. Well, what I meant is that Mission is a good character. Maybe not used, but why wouldn't you be fond of her? *shrug*
