To be honest I really liked him as well, the master/minion conversations in Hordes of the Underdark were hillarious. It's just fun to jump on the bandwagon sometimes .

Every couple of years I install all of the Baldur's Gate saga ('The' BG saga that is) and I can pretty much play them for 2-3 months solid. You're right that eventually the combat all starts to feel a bit familiar but personally I find that makes the games quite relaxing for me. I still try new classes and npc combos and that seems to be enough variation to keep me interested. The only thing that ever does give me pause are the annoying little side-quest bugs such as the Jaheira romance breaker. I haven't ever tried the games with mods installed though so thank you guys and girls for mentioning them, I'll have to give them a try soon.

Hidden & Dangerous 2 is a tactical fps similar to the early rainbow 6 series and just as fun. Set during WW2 you pick four SAS soldiers and equip them with whatever you desire from a huge list of weapons and equipment. This has to last them for the whole campaign (there are about 4-5). You can also take anything the enemy germans had on them when they were killed. The planning phase is accessed during the mission rather than before it, allowing you to make alterations to your plan on the fly. Most missions take place outdoors, so sniper rifles are a very valid choice and see a lot of action. H&D 2 had some really fantastic multiplayer maps for sniping and there is still a good sized community who play it. H&D1 is pretty old now but it can be downloaded for free at file planet, it may be a pain to get working on newer machines. edited for clarity ----- Hurlshot is absolutly right about BF2 by the way.

Nobody ever appreciates the crap that QA people have to put up with on a daily basis. Giovanni and the tree definitely deserve a raise

Don't make promises you've no intention of keeping. I've been hurt before :'( The squats sounded pretty fun. Powerful but slow/stationary weaponry back up by fast attack vehicles like bikes and cars. Their niche has been filled by other races now but on a personal level (and yeah fair enough if you don't agree) I'd like them brought back for the sake of nostalgia.

Dude. Joke. But it would be nice if GW would re-release them. Fluff be damned, it just doesn't feel like warhammer without dwarves.
-
But will there be Squats?

It sounds like dow2 is going for a more authentic table-top feeling. I love that we'll be able to equip commanders and squads with wargear now :D

According to the latest 'pc gamer uk' podcast, CD Projekt are also having all of the dialogue re-recorded. I don't know if that's a feature that will be included immediately in the enhanced version but if not it will be in a patch at some point.

Blood Bowl looks like it could be really fun. Maybe also a nice fallback for the Obsidian staff if the soccer team doesn't work out? http://news.filefront.com/blood-bowl-now-i...een-everything/

Dungeons and Dragons 4th Edition is on the way...

Have Wizards of the Coast and Atari fallen out or something? -
Try using suppress before you go. I think someone also said that resting repeatedly in areas with friendly spirits would make your craving go down whilst eventually adding to you spirit level. If neither of those work then you might have to consider using the console commands http://uk.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/neverwintern...ayer/hints.html .

Torment had a lot going for it but I always thought highly of P:T because it seemed like it was made with the idea of doing all the usual things you expected to find in an rpg differently. And the planescape setting in itself was an incredibly interesting thing that added a huge amount to the game. I liked how Torment constantly presented unusual and very mature characters and situations that would actually give you something to think about that went beyond simply trying to figure out the best option for completing a quest and getting your reward. The fact that so many things were unusual, and that there were so many instances where you could find things out about your past or aquire benefits from subtle dialogue paths meant that you really had a reason to want to hear what the npc's were saying to you. Few things in that game ever felt generic to me, the quality of the writing even for the side quests and minor conversations was much higher than it needed to be, making it all the more special.

Looking over the audio files I *think* that the variables are determined by; There are probably a few more but I think those make up the bulk of it. I'd say maybe 30 or so if you count the conversations before the slide show?

It certainly makes sense.

Was anyone else miffed that she may have known about a faster and safer way out and didn't share it with the rest of the group, thereby failing to aid them in something that wiped out over half the party? Did my 6 points of influence mean nothing to her? I'm starting to think that Githzerai are quite an untrustworthy bunch, Da'kon wasn't exactly giving with his secret portal locations either .

Then you're really missing out. I found them more enjoyable than the old lucas arts adventure games. The story is dark and intelligent, the whole thing is well written and by the time you've finished 5 days a stranger you'll probably be hooked on the series.

Sand probably survived as well if he'd sided with you. Ammon heard him finnish casting a transmutation spell and "If he chose his form carefully, there is a good chance he still lives".

Dawn of War is in a fairly unique position as rts games go though. One of dow's biggest strengths I think (Not to belittle all the other great things about the dow games) is the variety of factions the players can choose from and more importantly play against online. Hitting the reset button on the franchise puts it back in line with all the other rts games out there and personally I think makes it a little dull, even with a better engine. I think for the moment dow really doesn't need to be replaced with a better model. Soulstorm may in some ways make it stronger than the new engine games.

To be fair it was originally going to be *much* longer, more well rounded and was supposed to be delivered in (IIRC) 13 episodes. I think without the major cuts it would have been solid competition for any book or movie. Sorry for disrupting the topic, I'd add some games to the list but all of the rpg's I would mention already have been .

Commandos 2 was really great for co-op, it forces you to plan and work together. http://uk.pc.ign.com/articles/164/164698p1.html

November right? Or they could always push next year back a bit .

I can recommend DosBox (I use a graphical frontend for it) and Daemon Tools (use it as the cd rom drive for DosBox). Now it runs like a dream on Windows XP sp2 Thanks for the advice . I tried dosbox with a physical cd and a no-cd patch but didn't have a lot of luck with it. I ended up installing win95 onto a virtual pc , which works just as well but your way sounds much easier, I'll take a few notes for next time.
