  1. Came here to write this thread. Very well worded. I care about the story and I was amazed by the intro the first time, but there are so many possibilities for classes and I want to experiment with some of them. At the very least, let us save just before sitting so we can reload and start with the character creation as soon as possible, or make it a level 0 blessing of Berath.
  2. I had the same problem until I restarted the game. It downloaded something and now it runs okay. I know it's not great advice but hey, if it worked once it may work again. Best of luck to you. This was exactly what was happening to me. I closed the game, waited for it to finish the download and then started it again, and it as running fine. Are you all using Steam version? It may have something to do with that annoying "update".

  4. Aw yiss. Just watched the interview. As said above, not much we didn't know, but it's good to see the game already up and running. Visually it looks amazing. There seems to be a vast improvement on models, effects and, above everything else, lightning effects. I know it has been said a lot, but it just looks awesome. The map looks good too, and the watercolor portraits blend really well with the dialogues, although I'm not a fan of the old companions portrait change. Not much else to say. I was expecting more info after the long period of update deprivation, but it looks like they don't want to get into detail, at least for now. I guess we'll have to wait.

FYI, I'm not sure how long it's been since you last played, but according to the February Dev Blog, the rewards were intended for those who played at least one round of quest between the date of that post (Feb 13) and the following app update (June 13). I don't know the exact timeline they are using to determine eligibility, or if they considered players outside that window. You can always drop a support ticket with support@obsidian.net if you think that you should have gotten something, or got the wrong thing. I'm sure I was playing heavily on April, so I think I got that covered. Thanks for the info, though.

  7. I don't oppose the idea, it's just I don't see how could it be pulled of. VTMB scene was great but as already said, it was first person which makes it easier to be immersive. Don't get me wrong, I like the idea and there are some non-combat parts on many isometric RPGs, but I'm not sure I see your example as a good example here (because how different the games are).
  8. So we know for a fact that obsidian is working on an unannounced title with a major publisher (pleas note that it's not said that it's a new IP, although it could be). So far so good, but recently Obsidian commented this on Twitter.. Obsidian's only work with SEGA has been Alpha Protocol. So all this two vague hints lead to Alpha Protocol 2! Disclaimer: For all we know, it could be something with Paizo (although I don't know if that counts as a major publisher), or anything else. Don't get your hopes to high.
  9. I don't find them anime looking at all. Anyway, I think they talk about character concept+looks, not looks only. I didn't like much the looks of her at first, specially because the glasses seemed out of place, but I have to admit that the excessive enthusiasm of some people got to me. The infamous post, someone asking to remove Pallegina for Ydwin, among other things when so little was known of her it's, what I suppose, created the backlash, at least for me. She's not even going to be a full companion so I don't care much right now, I just wish people could get over her. It's too soon to talk about what we want to see in the expansion. What I liked about both White March is that they improved some things I found lacking on the base game, so I think the best course of action is to talk about the expansion once we have finished the game.
  10. I, too, loved the game and that mission, but I don't think it's a good example. The non-combat parts of Pillars that can be memorable are dialogues, character and scripted interactions. Kee pin mind that the text bears most of the weight on a game such as this and that particular quest was all about visuals and sounds. What you should ask yourself is what are the most memorable moments of isometric RPGs?
  11. I don't think there's anything wrong with having them. I mean, I probably won't use them much because I rather have the full companions in my party, sure, but it's not like a half-assed core mechanic (like a stronghold) that you're going to have to use. It's optional, you can safely ignore them. They are not replacing any full companions, they are an addition so we have more options when creating a party, because without them we would have only the main companions and the mercenaries. Same with the mercenaries: you don't like them? Fine, but you don't have to use them. What's the problem with that? That said, I don't care much about Ydwin. I can't believe she's so popular with so little. Let's focus on the game and when we know her and it's time for an expansion, lets discuss this, but at this time it is rather pointless.

  13. To be honest, I will be surprised if the game is released on 1Q 2018, but I think of all people Feargus really know his job and he probably knows what he's talking about. I think they've been working on the game for a long time now (I remember some comments on the sequel long time ago) and they have part of the work done sice it's a sequel, unlike with PoE1. Also, Q1+a possible 1-2 month delay would be June 18 at worst, which is realistic. The stretch goals are mainly expanding some of the existing mechanics (there is nothing like "second major city"), some other are externalized (soundtrack, translations), and they've probably taken into account the stretch goals, so while I think the ETA is surprisingly soon, I doubt it's utterly impossible to achieve it. I think most crowfunded games have their campaign during pre-production, and this have been in production for a while, so that's why the development (at least the part we have seen) could take a shorter time than the others. And please, don't quote me on this a year from now.
  14. I haven't finished the game, I'm just a bit stuck due to lack of motivation. The game is not bad, as noted by some it has good writing (even very good at times), Rhin and Erritis (specially with Scan thoughts) are good companions, but I feel that there is little interaction with the companions overall. They have only a few dialogues when you meet them/talk to them and then they go silent unless you do some specific missions with them in the party. Also, I'm surprised that there is so little VO for them. Not that I care that much, but so far they only have a handful of lines each. The main story is trying to repair a mcguffin so far, and it hasn't advanced **** since the beginning of the game. I've cleared the first major area, and still it's the same objective. Yeah, I get it, the setting and all that, but you have to keep the player hooked, not expect that he'll keep playing just to know how the levies are raised. And this, absolutely. So far I have around 19 int and 2 edge, and it makes every int task trivial or, worst case scenario, spend 1 point to get 90%+ chance of success. Anything else can be managed by a companion. Even if I fail a check, some of them are repeteable at the cost of 1 point, which makes them 100% chance of success if you have 1 edge. What's worse, it makes my already not-so-impressive focus literally useless, since what it does is allowing me to use extra effort. Why the hell would someone who specializes in talking need extra effort for that? Wouldn't they already have a really high chance of success? In PST, talking to people was central to the plot since it was about understanding who you are, and asking people around to advance in the plot made sense. Here, the city felt like a bunch of (interesting) missions glued together. Most of the time I was doing them because... well, it's a videogame, but my character motivation to talk to people was absolutely artificial. The main objective should be more vague so we needed to talk to peple so they point us in the right direction, but since it is absolutely crystal clear how to advance in the main story, doing secondary tasks feels like delaying it for no reason.
