Is there something else being released at the same time that might have drawn all the attention away from NWN2? What else is due out in September?

I remember a Jackanory story where a little boy had to persuade the entire world to jump at the same time so that the moles could prop up the land from underneath and prevent the underground giant from waking up. This looks like much the same thing.

I'd definitely buy it. Seriously, I'm a sucker for anything that's a decent twist on the standard fantasy setting. Sign me up for the crazy magic police (nautical division). It would be fun to have a game with two separate visions of technology, and the resulting two technology sets in competition with each other, and all of that co-existing with magic, too.

That sounds like fun. The whole magic/technology thing worked well in Arcanum, I thought - would you handle it differently? More RPGs on the sea! Fantasy, pirates or futuristic, I don't care.

Are there any screenshots of what the female Shepard will look like? You know, that name's just going to make me think of Stargate: Atlantis. Just as well I don't own an XBox 360, I suppose.

Good. I should get NWN2 about the same time as I get a new computer with a Conroe processor, then. That works out OK. I'm sure this game is worth an extra month's wait.

The Proms are back! ) At last, some great music to accompany my current game of Baldur's Gate.

I quite liked Peragus, certainly better than Taris. The linearity didn't bother me, and the fact that my character was still very weak and had few powers set the game up nicely. The rest of the game sees too many levelups, too quickly. Every levelup on Peragus made a difference.

This sucks. I mean, I had just talked myself into buying a new computer, and had even scouted a few shops, on the grounds that there's no good or bad time to buy because prices are always fluctuating and there's always new technology coming out, and now there's this. I really ought to wait, but how long will I have to wait? When will these Conroe thingies actually be in the shops in decent numbers? It would be nice to play Oblivion without the ever-moving puddle of grass, and of course there's always NWN2...

Stargate SG-1 now has half the cast of Farscape in it, yes. No muppets, alas. I think I've adjusted to the Ben Browder character better than I expected, though I know some die-hard Richard Dean Anderson fans who've abandoned the series in disgust.

There seems to be a contradiction in current Israeli security policy. They've always based their security on deterrence - as you say, if you hurt us, we'll hurt you back. However, in order for this deterrence to be credible, they seem to need to demonstrate their power every now and then with some massive attack on Lebanon or the Occupied Territories. This contradicts with the policy in Gaza, and previously Lebanon, of unilateral withdrawal (supposedly to leave the Palestinians and Lebanese to get on with their own affairs) and shows that policy to be incompatible with longer-term strategic security policies. The current Israeli action is such a disproportionate response to the kidnapping of a few soldiers that it looks like the kidnapping was a pretext rather than a reason. So how are the Israelis going to achieve the security they want? Not, I suspect, by invading or bombing Lebanon. Why would it work this time when it failed last time?

Stargate is still pretty good, even after all these years. The high points of the series definitely went beyond the movie in terms of both acting and ideas, and it's been consistently better than most of the Star Trek series I've watched. I think having a relatively small core cast and resisting permanent additions has helped. I'm looking forward to this new season even though it probably won't be shown here for a while, as the previous season of Atlantis only just started.

This looks a lot like Kotor3 to me. I mean, obviously it isn't, but it looks and feels, in this video, like a straight successor to Kotor1 - which is reasonable enough, considering how successful that game was. I shall look forward to the probable PC port . It sounded like they'd made some progress on the voice acting, but you still feel, even in those examples, you're hearing someone reading a script alone in a booth rather than someone physically present, with others, in the situation. It also doesn't look like they've gone the route of motion capture either, which I think is a shame. The opening music made me think of Frederick Pohl's Gateway.

This would be quite a good time for the US to get involved, in a non-military way. Where's the US envoy shuttling between capital cities? Where's the Russian foreign minister, for that matter? Where's Condoleeza Rice? Could we have some diplomacy, please? :ph34r:

I love this movie for the music, but you're right, the performances were great as well. I remember Minnie Driver cycling through confusion, horror and grief in the space of a second when her character caught Blank doing his thing - brilliantly acted.

The only meaningful punishment that Materazzi can receive now is to have his victory tarnished in the eyes of the public. That's unlikely to happen in Italy itself, but if public opinion and the media in the rest of the world decide that he's a cheat, and Italy's win is constantly referred to as controversial, that will hurt his pride at least. Not much, but more than anything FIFA will do. Assuming it's deserved, of course.

Logan's Run gave me nightmares when I was a kid. In part it was the crystal in the hand which I associated with verucas, but mostly it was the scene where people floated up into a big dome and got blasted because they were too old. I think I must have watched it around the time of my birthday. :ph34r:

Not a bad list of goodies. I might even consider buying the Collector's Edition, assuming it comes out at the same time as the regular variety.

With all this football (plus endless repeats) on the TV, I've completely missed Wimbledon this year. I'm sure there will be lots more fouls, at least, in the final. After all, no-one cares at this stage if they get a second yellow card. That may mean more diving, too, but the French won their last world cup by playing positive, attacking football rather than through defensive play or cheating, so hopefully we'll see a repeat of that. (Not necessarily the result, though. Go Italy! )

Yes, that match was a lot more fun to watch than I'd expected - not a dull defensive game, just a game between two teams with excellent defences. The goals, when they came, were pretty good, too.
