I have never used that spell. Please explain how it works and whether it is recommended for solo. I thought it was like BG2 Simulacrum which was pretty OP. I just hit level 7 after Parables of Wael and Sewers. Looked though the level 4 spells and I cannot tell which would help me most Wall of Fire, Minor Arcane Reflection, Iron Skin, Minoletta's Concussive Missiles, and Essential Phantom all look useful. I would probably go for wall of Flame and Arcane Reflection? (Wizards who can fire past my bottlenecked summons) Also, does anyone know whether the speed of Kalakoth's Minor Blights is determined by your weapon? (it looks like it enchants my wand, is the splash damage part of the spell or because of the wand?)

Thanks for the replies I have the Shades, one of my 1st deaths was trying to take on the bears and took the wrong approach. Just to be safe I only went back once I had shades and wood beetles I just did heritage hill on my Pacifist run, so I know how to do the 1st floor and which enemies trigger the bug you mentioned. So feel ok about that So I'll stick with Eder's armour for now and pick up the recommended items Looking forward to my lance if I make it that far

Hi Doing a very successful run with a TCS Wizard. Level 6 now, some close calls but Wizard had a great ability to bounce back with all his draining spells and once enemies are focused on your summons you are good. Loving the 1st level Staff and the Hardened Veil. I have been using Eder's Armour and his second chance has saved me once so I would like to keep that on me. I have access to ring of Wonders now, so I can either swap out my armour or take two better rings. Feeling like I will keep the armour and upgrade it since you cant upgrade rings and I feel I have a good casting speed at the moment. What has been nice is that I am not as reliant on weapons as my other attempts since I can summon really good ones. What do people think about this? Any suggestions for a wizard run item layout? I will definitely get whisper of treason helm. I have done most of the quests in defiance bay, doing Sewers and Wael quest still then only Heritage Hill and some Ondra's gift quests remain Then the hard part starts... Not sure about my approach to the Dyrford quests, also worried a bit about Sanatorium. Other two main quests should be ok since I have lot of room to setup my fights.

Thank you SO MUCH. Just got here with my TCS Wizard and it totally worked PS. Was totally impressed with the Wizard here. Forgot to rest to recharge my figurine and only realized after starting the fight. Ran out of the room with sugar and fast runner. And buffed like crazy: Hardened Veil, Spirit Shield, Infuse with Vital Essence, and Mirror Image (with Cape of Withdrawal) And I managed to pull the mobs, even got stuck in spider silk twice and survived just fine

In my experience I have tried with Cipher, but I am not sure how well they will do with the reduced starting focus. I died vs Thaos, but that was fine becasue I had to rely on S/L exploit, if you miss with your ability 3 times in a row then you might find yourself in a bad spot. Also, one of their main benefits felt like it was the mind control abilities, and you can get a helmet to replicate that. Trying now with Wizard without S/L and I have restarted 3 times. Very very strong, but unforgiving for mistakes or rash choices. Also, it turns out that +50 deflection from Arcane Veil does not make you invulnerable even in act one But overall it feels a lot easier than Cipher so far. That Staff you can summon at level 1. So Strong! I am also doing a solo pacifist run with Rogue, and it seems tempting for a TCS play except that some encounters are buggy since they wont end even if you are miles away from an enemy and wait an hour. Also enemies have to 'tag' you even if you go invisible, so you might end up fighting anyway, and without he option to load and try again, so you might end up fighting the mod you tried to sneak past :/

I played a Bleak Walker in the previous version and easily got my aggressive and cruel rating up in the early game, especially in Gilded Vale. Restarted with another one now and completed Gilded vale doing all the cruel and aggressive choices for all the quests and I only got 1 aggressive rating? Anyone else notice something like that?

I have been watching your youtube vids only got thought the very early part so far, I found it a bit strange that you had an extra point of might before picking Living lands, wonder how that happened. Anyway, I wonder what you think about 20 might and dropping resolve or dex a tiny bit? Also, I totally agree with the Weapon Focus early game so you can hit more consistently, not what I would have done on my own, so thanks You took forever to pick the talent though, have you not done this like a million times? I'll keep watching where I have time, and leaving questions, gonna try and duplicate the run sometime.

Ya, it is a known issue. This is why backstab is not very valued. It can be useful though If you want to invest in stealth you should give your entire party some, you do not need much, this allows you to have a combat round from stealth with ranged weapons or spells and get a good initiative on the fight, maybe even killing some creatures or landing some hard cc which makes the fight a lot easier. You don't need a lot of stealth for this to work, so it is a light investment for the party. I found that I have been able to use stealth really effectively on a solo play and I completed the entire Eothas Temple without triggering combat with 10 stealth, but that is not really viable with a party. Backstab can still help here since it works with ranged weapons (I think?) and it will still apply if you attack from Shadowing Beyond and here and there. If I made a rogue ever again though I would not pick backstab as a talent. PS. To be honest even with my stealth party I would not get sufficient advantage for tough fights from a stealth combat round. In any sufficiently difficult encounter I would find a bottleneck area like a door and pull the mod so my tanks could absorb and deflect them while my backlines laid on the pain. So Stealth is a bit meh.

Can probably finish game with 2 rests
Omnicron replied to Omnicron's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
It just means one needs an extra layer of planning so you do not accidentally exploit this when you just want to do a task solo to avoid a fight. -
I have been trying to get the achievement for completing the game with less than 10 rests as a challenge, but I found a way to cheese it via an exploit which would mean I wont need to rest except for once when I get to Gilded Vale and probably once more before Thaos Fight. If you get to an inn with your party on critical health and fatigue simply do the following: Remove everyone from your party. Exit Dialogue. Add Everyone to the party again. Everyone except your main character will be full health and have no fatigue. So as long as you keep your main character out of fights and have him hang around at the entrance to the dungeon or map area and play with 5 party members you should be able to easily finish the game with an effective party of 5. You might want to rest before Thaos fight since you cannot run back to an inn, but that is all. A bit disappointing, since I was looking forward to trying out some skills like the healing ones which would allow me to try and keep resting to a minimum, but they are not even needed with this exploit. You do not get your /rest abilities back, but as long as you play with classes which run /encounter abilities you will be fine.

Ah thank you for clarifying that I was just wondering it it was worth making a main char a priest for the rep bonus. Clearly not. Rather do Paladin then if I choose to have one in my party. So is Deep Faith a once off +2/+5/+5/+5 giving a max total of +13/+27 or does it also increase depending on reputation and give an even higher total?

Just did some quick tests killing the Campsite with a Bleakwalker and Skaen priest for one point of cruel to figure out how their abilities scale. Paladin Faith and Conviction: +5 Defection +10 to Saves. Each point of reputation gives you +1 Deflection and +2 to all saves I do not know how much you can max your reputations but assuming 5 each you will be able to get your paladin to +15 Deflection and +30 to all Saves Holy Radiance seems based on Might, and at 18 might it was healing 14.4 Endurance and I got +2 for a reputation point. So assuming the same 10 reputation points it would mean you have an AoE heal of 34 Endurance with max might. (it suggests it happens over time with the vessel damage, not sure if it also applies to the healing, which would make it a lot better) Now am I just being dumb or does the Priest scale very poorly with reputation compared to the Paladin. I mean late game 34 Endurance is not a lot, but +15 Deflection is significant

Like it has been said, stealth can give you a very powerful 1st round since you can position you character within range of their abilities and even kill a few enemies if you know who to focus giving a big advantage in the fight. Heck I have even 1 shot phantoms with my backstab rouge and hence avoiding combat or pulling other enemies. Doing another playthough and focusing only on stealth I noted that it is possible to complete the Temple of Eothas without triggering a single encounter with 10 stealth. So if you want to avoid combat you can actually finish a large number of quests without fighting, so I feel stealth has a place.

Got into the 1st floor of Heritage Hill Tower without being detected, but it is impossible to sneak past either way to get to the second floor. Going left is only 5 kills though. A bit disappointing because it seems like there is a bu on this level. I pull that mob with my beetles and run past with SB, and the beetles die and I am in a secluded spot by the stairs. I waited 10mins and even though there is no combat happening, and I am not detected, I am still "in combat" according tot he game.

Hi, been looking around on the wiki and wondering what gear people recommend for my solo Cipher (I am keeping my save 1.04 till after this run). Sadly I screwed up and missed my Sanguine plate, but using the following the dinner plate of relation (or whatever the name of that shield is), exceptional Plate Mail, The Unforgiven (flail), Lead Spitter (Blunderbuss), Ring of +10 to saves, ring of +10 deflection, Bracers of accuracy, boots that give consecrated ground, belt of might +3, and my cloak or amulet keeps changing (spell resist at the moment) These are my current talents at level 10/11 (Body Attunement is missing in pic) I am fairly sure my last talent should be sword and shield style? What gear should I am for? what am I missing?

Crucible Knights not valid for hearings
Omnicron replied to Omnicron's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
Yup, went to go and check out what his problem was when I saw my conversation choice with Lady Webb, he did not have anything to say for himself. I remember talking to him after winds of steel and I told him to keep experimenting with the forge knight idea. Posting my savegame wont help, it is Trial of Iron and I already moved past that with Lady Webb's invitation. Just thought it is a possible bug worth noting. -
Crucible Knights not valid for hearings
Omnicron replied to Omnicron's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
It is hardly the point. How can I have burned my bridges with the Crucible Knights when I did all their quests and saved them from their own forge knights????!!! Compared to my first play-though I did one quest for crucible knights (2 if you count Heritage Hill). Did exactly the same with Doemenals. And I was still able to represent the Dozens at the trail after doing their second quest. Why would it not be the same for the Crucible knights? Here is the Char I was having this problem with (obviously took the invite from Lady Webb to attend, but I still found it odd) -
Crucible Knights not valid for hearings
Omnicron replied to Omnicron's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
The only thing I did for the Dozens was to get the guy his Armour. I never even spoke to the main guy (Wenan I think is his name) Did everything for Crucible Knights and never spoke to Doemenals. -
Oops? I do not understand this one? You cannot load while playing trial of Iron anyway & they cant mean quitting. If you quit during combat it still wont save? Nerf to fan of flames is going to hurt solo when you try and do Keep vs shades "There's a new option to reset newly recruited companions to level 1 (without losing the experience). This will allow you to level up companions to your liking" This is very cool. So that means you can finally get rid of Bear's Fortitude on Durance? Will this be a retroactive fix? (the wording suggests it is a once off thing the moment they join your party, so if you already have them in your save then....) Also what does +33% focus generation instead of + an additional 2 mean. It is 2 focus per hit by default +33% of 2 is <1 ???

Ok your post got me thinking so I went back and tried it again. It was the bugged door that was the problem after all. It looked open while it was closed and that is why I could not jump through. So simply did the following. Opened door. Summon wood beatles behind me. I was lucky that I was already in the door at this stage, so could go straight into SB and waited at the exit. combat ended while shades were at the stairs so I could get out well before they returned to their posts Mission Accomplished !!! Thanks :D Now only 2000xp short of level 8. Still only 23 kills Sanatorium was fun do do with zero kills. SB + Fleet Feet FTW
