  1. I didn't choose that link because i agree with the newscaster/pundit (Matthews, was it?). He was a real bully there, just ignore the guy. It just happened to be the first that i found containing that perticular statement. While Biden surely says something akin of loopy statements, but one can easily spot that there's some sort of judgement, or ideas behind it. Strictly meaning, he can have some trouble expressing his thougths at times. Also, you can easily spot when he is in an uneasy situation, or is directly lying: That sharkgrin of his, yuck. Palin however, is just empty, devoid of any abstract thinking IMO. Think of the statement for a moment: "Charge of the senate"? It doesn't even make sense on any level. Even a child would irk to that. I wonder how she spell "potato".
  2. Sarah Palin thinks that the Vice-president should be in charge of the Senate. <-- Starts at 1:58 I can't even comment on her statement.
  3. Want to fix education? Easy, demand that for basic education, one has to have atleast a Master's degree in teaching. If one wants to teach in high-school, one needs to be specialized in a particular field, such as biology, math and so on. Want to hold lectures in in higher education? You have to become a PhD in that particular field, or get a Master's degree within that field and attend at basic pedogogic studies for a year or two. Problem solved.
  4. Tell me about it, when my mother was antending Helsinki university during 1968-1972, the general consensus was that you were either a Stalinist or a Trotskyist, with some people leaning to Mao. My mother was considered a right-winger since she was a social-democrat. Other fun facts: - Worker clothes were a must. - In the school cafeteria, the students would usually stand on the tables, as sitting on the chairs were indoctrination of the bourgeois ruling class. - Soviet was paradise, everything else was American propaganda. - USA was home of the oppressive bourgeois class, the workers class had no power and thus, all information was lying propaganda. - Nixon was a mass murderer, there were several demonstrations against him. - There were no purges, gulag or genocide in the Soviets. They simply didn't exist. - The working class should rule government (funny that everyone saying this was in academia or a student). Thank god that evaporated later during the seventies, and in reality it would've never been a revolution either, since the biggest social group in Finland at the time, the farmers, would've shot them the second they saw them. And oh, a funny anecdote: All those heardcore leftists turned out to start companies, become successful in the corporate world and are pretty much the anti-thesis today of what they once were. Linus Torvalds dad for example (a former trotskyist) is currently living in Washington DC, working as a foreign relations journalist for the finnish public broadcast television. He is strangely pro-US these days
  5. I wasn't born yet, and my parents were playing with toys at time, but my grandparents remember it. They said that the general feeling was disgust when the tanks rolled in, and the political machinery started to self-censor themselves about it (Finland shares the border with Russia) and my grandfathers younger friends were recalled for extra military training duties (they kept a low profile about it though, so the soviets wouldn't get too p***y about it), practicing on the possibility of an invasion. Many farmers started to stockpile rifles and other weapons as well. Very uneasy times indeed.
  6. Castro is pleased by this. Carry on my fellow workers!
  7. My computer started to go haywire and beeping about the temperature being too high. After closer inspection, it turned out that it was right, my Quad-Core showed a temperature of 95 degress celsius. Apparantly my CPU-fan was dying. I quickly bought a new, HUGE zalman cooler (0,5kg) with heatpipes and its fan is so huge that it barely fit into my case. But it sure runs quietly, and the temperature stays at a formidable 33 degrees celsius, yay! I'm always leaving that option open Afterall, i have friends and relatives in British Columbia(CAN), Ontario(CAN), and Arizona(US). It's been a while since i have visited them. And oh, a fun fact: I have numerous of relatives in North Bay, Canada. Which just happen to be the same place that Volourn lives. Freaky.
  8. From what i have gathered, a true free-market would be too chaotic to have a "crash" that would be of such of an impact that it would collapse the whole economy. Without a central bank the monetary system would be unaffected to a similar bank-depression that we have today, since the banks would know that there would be no one to back them up, not even the government, thus it would lower unnecessary risks and lending without sacrificing effiency. Also, since the market would be more chaotic, there would be less chance of someone or some entity grabbing a monopoly within a sector for a longer given time, since 1) competition would be fierce anyway and 2) No corporate entity would be able to influence the government to impose laws that would secure their monopoly. The problems arising from this is that it would be 100% meritocracy, leaving the less unfornunate and unlucky behind. Also, when the market is chaotic by nature, and more flexible, it would require people to be very flexible as well. Strictly meaning, families might have to move a lot, people would be required more than ever to re-educate themselves for new jobs, and a general feel of unsecurity, all of these often leading to social stigma. And of course by having an invisible hand guiding the market, it would be perceived as cold, or even unhuman by many. I for one, wouldn't personally be affected as much, as im already working in a specialized field where the requirement is often to re-educate oneself. But this is all wishy-washy utopia stuff. We can might as well discuss the merits of communism while we're at it.
  9. Not to sound too harsh or anything, but GRAPHICS is one the the least problems that this game suffers from.
  10. Maybe i need to re-emphasize from my previous post: They completely scrapped the story from KotOR II. "The wait is over!", it's over alright. Christ, i am behaving like a 40-year old feminist, being high on PMS. I need a smoke.
  11. Wait, did they just skip the story of KotOR II entirely? Now i understand why Fearghus and MCA never got the answer regarding KotOR III from Lucasarts. This statement above pretty much tells Obsidian to GO F*** themselves. Nevermind that KotOR II sold 1.3 million copies in USA alone, oh wait:
  12. The Republic vs. the tr00 Sith empire eh? "l0lRevan1990" ahoy! I can go on and on.
  13. Type in "Colin Powell My Lai" and you will get quite a few different stories all about his terrible investigation. Maybe he was just a really bad investigator, but he's never struck me as a dumb guy. It seems pretty clear he covered it up, and it was only because another witness came forward years later that we have any record of the horrific massacre. http://www.thenation.com/doc/20010514/corn20010502 That is probably the least inflammatory of the articles I read, but it still makes it clear Powell has some skeletons in his closet. I don't necessarily have an issue with Powell, I just find it baffling where his reputation of integrity comes from. Hmm, this article points out at best that he might know more than he says to know. I can't really make out more of it. As far as character and integrity goes, I think that it partly comes from the way he articulates himself and how he makes statements and general judgement. I can also guess that he got som kewl points for resigning from the bush administration discretely, like a good soldier would.
  14. Snowing? I wish that it would snow here. I am tired of this rainy weather and 14 hour darkness per day.
  15. Five. I counted them. Five. Different. Enemy. Types. Throughout the entire game! This. I expected that more freaky monsters, or people that have gone through serious mutation due to 'Adam', as i progressed. It never happened.
  16. ^I completely missed that one. Ontopic: Where will this "announcement" take place? www.lucasartsbioware.com? I need something to whine about, and quickly!
  17. This is not whether you like it or not, or whether it goes against anyone's principles. It is about the possibility of it happening, since they will have to some degree, total majority in every seat of government.
  18. You got me wrong there, sorry about that. In Finland you are never grateful to when things get better, you always try to convince yourself that this new entitlement sucks more than the previous. Liking your job? Heaven forbid if you do that, it just means that you're a suck-up to the boss. So it is natural for me to complain a bit. I just....have to. This new job is better than the previous in almost every way, but being optimistic about to 100% is a deadly sin here, mistah!
  19. So, with of the possibility of a democratic majority in the congress, senate and a demcratic President, what is your bet that they will (hypothetically) follow through with the following issues: 1. Taxes: Obama's taxplan will be legislated 2. Afghanistan and Iraq: Within 4 years everyone is back home 3. The economy: Recession will take place, but how will their policy change aside from taxes? You know, transparacy, audits, investigations on fraud on wall street? 4. Social security, medicare and alike: Will they implement universal healthcare for all? 5. Education: Will education be free, no matter how high you go? My take: 1 out of 5, and that is the first one. Maybe some social issues will be done, but certainly nothing will be done on 1)The war on terror, and 2) Energy policy and finally on 3) Nothing will be done on Wall Street, no one will get into prison, no audit will be done, and nothing will be done on the federal reserve, since they are way into their pockets. And 2-4 years, the republicans will re-enter congress and the senate, promising to throw socialism out of Washington. In reality, they will just lower the taxes and keeping the social programs intact.
  20. The Witcher EE. I just started chapter III. There's still a lot of monsters left to kill, and women to love.
  21. hardly apples and oranges, powell's just the hypocrite which was all i was pointing out. fools like you really think liberalism works to your advantage. i can't blame you. charismatic folks like obama sell it well. sheep like you drink it up. you'll realize when it's too late. hopefully in time to do something about it. taks Dude, do you have a case of mondays today. It's already tuesday.
  22. This resembles the whole Mohammed-caricature-story a while back. I remember Yuusha (who is a tolerant compared to those nutcases) claiming that it is an unsigned law, or so to speak, to respect different peoples opinions. When asking him if it selfsensorship is a good thing, then he claimed "yes", since it promotes social harmony. Finally i asked him about the scenario about sun-worshippers, and possibility that they would claim any reference to the sun as a herecy, would he then abide that and remove any reference of the sun on their behalf? He never answered. This latest wave of self-sensorship in society is despicable IMO. I rather live in a society where free speech is encouraged by everyone, than letting the majority silence themselves on the minority's behalf, or even the other way around.
  23. i gave up trying to climb the corporate ladder years ago. i make more money simply working for myself (at least, not attempting to wow the bosses), and doing good work. i'm now down to a 5-man company, which is already beginning to make me feel cramped. contracting and consulting are the only way to go. sigh... taks I thought of the idea. I mean those consultants that are specializing in sunssystems demand up to 3000
