Go ahead and make your case that says posting on a message board is actively doing anything. I'm just here because I'm bored waiting for my physics simulation to be done. Between the lines is empty space. Pretending you're defending more than your sense of self-entitlement by saying meaningless stuff like "read between the lines" is just a cheap cop-out. This is not literature. There's nothing being described here. There's just your stupid demands. There ARE!? Wow! My mind, he is blown! Other than that, this has nothing to do with my argument. I also never said or implied that Team Gizka was special. Team Gizka has every right to do with their mod what they wish, just as any other mod team does. Now you're just grasping. Saying Team-Gizka occasionally pulls nasty **** on their fans, that's a critique. One that I would even agree with. Saying Team-Gizka owes it to their fans (i.e.: you) to do certain things differently, that's just a bull**** demand. And you have no right to demand anything from them. I hate it when people pull out the old "whaaah you're wrong because it's just my opinion" thing when it doesn't apply. But fine, go ahead and act that waiting and doing nothing for a long time mean they should listen to you. If that makes you happy, sure, go ahead. It doesn't seem like it does from your posts though, because you seem to be determined to be angry at everything these people you don't know, who don't affect your life do. And, as you said, they don't release anything right? So everything these people do... is nothing. So what are you so angry about? Oh you better jest, suggesting something as silly as being angry. I see that there are claims about 'reading between the lines' is an 'empty space' and these kinds of arguments should 'belong to litterature', which of course is a bogus claim to begin with. Well, however it seems that there has still been some 'reading between lines' here after all, since there's one assumption after the other that there's demands to be met and claims of being owed something. No such things have of course been said, maybe someone else is angry here Whops, getting a little bit personal and off-topic here, aren't we? Maybe i need to rewrite it, without any possible implications, that Team-Gizka has handled this in a very bad way. Most of all of course, is being inconsistent on many occations. There hasn't been rational and thought out argument to counter it yet.

Feh! Such imbeciles, that's just what they want you to think.

Oh please, none of us would even post here if that was the case. Team-Gizka has conducted practices whole doing this mod that some find questionable, and people call them out on it. Read between the lines. The critizism lies in what they have done, not what they should do. I am sure that you are aware that there are literally tens of thousands of free mods out there, for FREE even! Team-Gizka is not special in any way. At first everyone was judged of being a bunch of shlogs, at least the antagonistic ones. Later it became apparent to not to judge Team-Gizka on their efforts. Maybe they have a special anti-judgemental license or something. Maybe i have to look up upon the premises of giving critique, be right back!

Now, now, i would never be that derogatory towards Team-Gizka. No group of modders could ever have such authority to mess things up of such epic proportions as the government. There is one way already implemented. It is called 'not releasing it at all'. Oh wait, you will not get your copy then, will you? Well, then there is the option of setting up an FTP-server and distributing logins and passwords only to those who have been supportive towards Team-Gizka. Maybe they will have to fill in an online form that will make sure that you're a real supporter, you know, deeming out your real intent and such. Isn't that kind of what they are doing at the moment? But do please continue to support them, since it's a wonder that they haven't quit if it weren't for your support. After all, how could they ever be able to finish without you guys since they are "just doing it for themselves on their freetime".

Yeah, and when everyone has their own definition, the term becomes meaningless. I've always assumed it meant to appeal to as many people as possible, and simplicity would be a part of that (being able to play something straight away as opposed to needing to read a 100 page manual before starting), but I don't think simplicity necessarily means sacrifice. For example, an RPG features 50 different skills but for the sequel it's cut down to 10. People will complain that the sequel is dumbed down, simplified for the masses, but what if the 10 skills of the sequel were all important and all had a drastic effect on the course of the game, while the 50 skills of the original were mostly fluff that changed little? In Deus Ex a skill like swimming is worthless compared to a skill like computers, but what Harvey Smith came to realise with the failure of the sequel is that people really like having lots of different choices, even if those choices don't actually change much. So which game is more appealing to the LCD, the seemingly simple sequel with fewer options that change the course of the game, or the apparently complex original with far more options which do little to change the game but are meaningful in how the player sees their character? Being an elitist means believing yourself to be part of a superior group, it doesn't doesn't mean you actually do anything important or worthwhile. Yep, that pretty much describes so-called elitist gamers, though whiners is really a more appropriate term. In a world of videogames, Deus Ex fans are an elite group

I didn't mean that you can apply my notion of useability and reliability directly to video-games. What i meant was that the software industry wishes to be as broad as possible in order to reach more customers and increase the market share and wealth. This is only natural, anything else is a gamble. What these notions have in common is that they have to take the 'village idiots' point of view, or the lowest common denominator, when doing their design, whatever metric or discipline they might focus on. And oh, the real 'Elitists' are the ones that were in charge of their own fate and changed humanity within their reach. Take Wittgenstein for example, who wished to explain the very nature philosophy as we know it. He considered any form of music that wasn't Brahms to be a sign of decline and the path to idiocracy. He even had a school were he brought up children with mathmatical-spatial gifts, where the rest were physically punished for their stupidity. Now that's Elitism!

Economically speaking, I can take that this is of no issue for them, nor do they see it as any form of longterm planning. The matter of principle truimphs everything. Like the drugtesting for those recieving unemployment benefits that i have heard about in some states. These practices would be insanely expensive, nor would they actually produce anything, or have any basis of reality. It is just a matter principle: "No druggie gets my taxpayers money!".

Who also went astray by the economic downturn?

About 6 months ago, the local businesses were still hiring a lot of people. Now, some departments have laid off quite a few of them. No one has gone bancrupt yet though. Generally speaking, the academic unemployment has skyrocketed, since they are all over-qualified or too specialized for any form of 'general' work. It is not a matter of will or sucking it up due to bad times, but it is more in the employer; why would you hire someone that is just desperate for the time being, when they are going to leave the company anyway in the the near future. There's load of people who can clean, fix hamburgers and do telemarketing that are actually planning to stay. Beside those mentioned, the only currently available jobs are meaningless governmental jobs, like secretary and such, with a ridicolous low pay. My current working place has to do some cleaning up as well, but my department is not currently under the radar (Hint: working within the field of developing tools also gives the impression that you have A LOT to do). Nor should i complain, i make almost 4 times the amount of what Pidesco mentioned, and was only turned down to a significant payraise due to the times. -
TG forum members built the hype themselves TBH. Dash posted only one message. All these appologies are getting tiresome. It just shows how little understanding there is from Team-Gizka and their fans, concerning the matter at hand and the nature of Dahus' message. It doesn't matter if the mod will be done tomorrow or in this very moment. The fact of the matter is that TG used in an in-house joke on everyone interested. This conduct is of a very unproffessional manner, only suited to those yes-men that worship any decision that Team-Gizka happens to do. Personally, i thought that the 'summer 2008' was a typo, anything else would've been considered a d***move from their part. I guess that i was wrong in the very end. No, what really happened was: 1) Team-Gizka apparantly lacks any form of social understanding. They seem to be completely surprised by the backlash that later happened. Threatening with litigation? That's just a typical "waaaa, i'm gonna tell mommy!"-diatribe that only juveniles do. Grow up already and learn to take some responsibility for your actions. 2)"We're just doing it for ourselves! No promises! When it is done! It was just a small message, it is your own fault". Again, what's with the excuses? If you really want to be consequent with your methods, then shut down the site, tell everyone to p*ss off and refuse to do any form of hype, not even after release. Actually, you shouldn't even release it to the public at all to begin with, since you are "just doing for yourselves". But of course you wouldn't do that. By doing so, then Team-Gizka, the Beta-team and all your supporters wouldn't enjoy your status that you have achieved. The reactions from the leaked Beta showed that pretty clearly. Or..... 3) Team-Gizka is a bunch of sociopathic trolls that are enjoying a nice social experiment. Just how much can one abuse people's trust? How much longer can we enjoy a fandom of yes-men? Where is exactly lies the boundry of people's self-respect? If true, then i applaud them for managing to conduct a practical joke of such proportions. These things take skill, patience and a lot of hard work.

Depends on what you define as the 'lowest common denominator'. I am currently working in the software industry, where the concept of 'idiot-proof' is commonly used. It derives from making sure that the system/application/solution that is being implemented, cannot halt or have unexpected errors due to erratic and unforseen end-user input. By following this methodology, you can ensure that the quality in terms of stability and usuability is high. These qualities are rated high, based on customer input. Hype, clever marketing and interesting features that are more simpler to understand are also important factors. If the designers and engineers expects that the end-user has the same understanding and insight as people from their field, then they are doomed to failure. As the previous CEO for SUN said iirc: "The best technology sells the best by itself", that almost bancrupted the company. I don't see Bioware to think otherwise.

Iowans, lead the way. Even the self-proclaimed 'liberals' of California have failed. You are our destiny.

Here is an interesting article. Do not let the author and url scare you though, the whole system is rather carefully analyzed, and written with a nice wit to boot. Basically there are a couple guys, including Goldman, the Fed and the gorvernment, that all are screwing everyone over. There are no visible barriers between these instances of power, since they have all worked with each other in the past, even in different administrations, and most likely will work with each other for times to come. What Guard Dog mentioned earlier about AIG is also included here, very disturbing indeed. Also, the whole point that taks was pandering about; namely dubious business-models for banks and their own strong belief that the government would bail them out. Not only did their models suck, banks like Lehmann had government aid included in these very models. And why wouldn't they, most of their colleages and friends worked in the US treasury (Paulson and Geithner were from Goldman) and the Fed.

Gordon Brown looks like the archetype british bulldog. From the little info that i have gathered, he seems like the good 'ole statesman, making policies just because he can. I wouldn't be suprised if the house of lords is populated by more sane people, since they shouldn't be bound by the laws of populism.

That actually sounds like something interesting. Might check it out.
