A Star Wars game using the Fable engine
darth buch replied to Sion67's topic in Computer and Console
I don't think Fable was very pretty. And the fighting was very repetitive. I wouldn't like it. It's always hard making a Jedi character in a game, but I don't think Fable is right. And I got bored with it quickly. -
Star Wars III, hottest actress??

Portman is extraordinarily hot. However it would be hard to kiss her without humming 'Beyond the Stars'. -
Clear lightsaber color crystal!
darth buch replied to Eddo36's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I believe the blade is generated by focusing the energy through the crystal. So you'd need one. An invisible lightsaber would be really dangerous. -
It would have to be well-timed. It'd be a lot easier if the lightsabers weren't so damn noisy, so your opponent wouldn't know what was happening.

I would pay a lot for a KOTOR game featuring Flabo as an NPC. An incredibly tall, cross-dressing throaty Scottish zombie would be superb. Espescially with a romance option. That didn't have much to do with droid speak either, now I think about it. Epicenter, I like the comment about Atton being racist. He is very prejuciced toward droids, and if you notice numerous characters call Quarren characters 'squid-heads' and mission refers to a Rodian as 'chuba-face'. Not to mention HK47's comedy hatred of humans. Star wars has always presented droids as having very human characteristics, but they are also born into the working class, unpaid and never treated as fully-rounded characters. I particularly dislike the quest on Dantooine in KOTOR1 where you encounter Elise Montagne's suicidal droid and your non dark-side options are 1) Send him back to her as she needs his help, and 2) Kill him because she needs to be separated from him. Couldn't you help him escape, for God's sake? Even a lightside Revan apparently has no regard for droid life. And neither, of course, does Obi-Wan 'Well if droids could trhink, there'd be none of us here, would there?' Kenobi. They can think, matey. They think you're a racist. I worry about stuff like this, but then you see the way Bao-Dur's loathing of Mandalorians is sensitively handled, or how Juhani tells of how she was hurt by bigotry on Taris, and all is forgiven! What the hell kind of discrimination would poor Flabo have to put with?

Right on. Jedi don't take revenge. They return. -
I've never met her dog and I would. I'm buying KOTOR 3 if it gets made, no matter what. I've never been so involved with a video game.

Can I ask.... WHY do people dislike the Disciple so much? Is it the hair? -
Awesome. For my friend.

Violet is way too showy. And so is Mace Windu for that matter. Green for me, because I don't like the fancy colours and it goes with brown better than blue does. it'd be a single hilt, which I think is more elegant, and a long, thin design. Also I would have a thin beard and a posh English accent. And a big robe! And a horse! A lightsaber with a phone would be very dangerous.
-
Anyone can be an Atton Rand fangirl. What's the deal if you're male and in love with him though? Because... uh, I have this... friend, y'see......
-
His name's Bao-Dur, but it's a bit picky to make fun. If ever you were to forget someone's name, you'd be forgiven if it was a character from the Star Wars universe! I think the best way is simply to send three Jedi (if you have three) or at least, make sure Visas is amongst them and send some good melee fighters to block the endless, endless lightsabers you'll be facing. Other than that, take some medpacs and stimulants, fight as well as you can, upgrade your weapons a bit before you go in and set it to easy if you prefer. I used to send Visas as the leader until I got fed up of the Sith master telling me 'I sense the Force is with you... but it is.... untrained.' No it isn't! It's Visas Marr! Darth Nihilus' apprentice!
-
I wouldn't put that past KOTOR2's writers..... But still no. Yes, Canderous is Mandalore. he has the same voice (muffled, but still), there are various hints at him knowing Revan and 'serving with Jedi before' and if you ask about him at the end Kreia actually refers to him as Canderous. Like so many impoertant plot details in TSL, nobody explicity confirms or denies Mandalore's identity, for no apparent reason other than for the fun of confusing gamers.

The reason games rarely feature homosexual relationships, I think, is just because it would put homophobic people off of buying the product. And there's a lot of homophobes about. It's the same reason most heroes in games and movies are still white men. Nobody objects to seeing a movie about a white man. With games there's perhaps a greater chance of prejudiced people becoming offended, as the game asks you to play the role of the main character rather than just watching him/her. Being bisexual myself i don't fully understand how people would be 'uncomfortable' playing the role of a character with a different sexuality to their own, but it surely offends some who dislike homosexuality. It seems hard to imagine a Star Wars game featuring a known homosexual character, as none of the films have featured one, and to my knowledge, none of the novels or comics. I'm not sure the Star Wars universe is 'innocent' as someone suggested earlier, just old fashioned. Not at all bigoted (I like the large number of alien characters given key roles but notice how thin on the ground strong women are in the series) but certainly old fashioned. Playing the original KOTOR yesterday I coerced Zalbaar into murdering his 14 year old best friend. That's not innocent, and similar stuff happens within the otherwise fairytale world with some regularity. I figure an acurate number of non-stereotyped, non comic-relief gay characters in games is on its way. But, like gay marriage and however many other rights, it'll be a while coming yet.

But they have to listen to me - I used capital letters! I really didn't like them. Admittedly on my first game I had an orange, Kreia had veridian and Disciple had cyan for some reason, but since then I stopped using them. I like the spin-off games and all the EU stuff to try and be loyal to the original six, which I love so much (even Episode 1) that I don't like seing other writers buggering about with them. In the movies, jedi have blue or sometimes green, except Mace Windu, and those on the dark path use red. I get very cross when some guy starts introducing twin lightsabers or silver ones. But as you say, that's just my opinion. And I'm only one of millions of fans, so. Myself, I like to stick to the blue and green ones, even for sentinals (except Bastilla, obviously) and rarely use a double-bladed saber. I don't want Darth Maul's entrance to lose any of its weight! -
I quite liked the side story about discovering Revan's fate after the events of KOTOR. Espescially the scene with Carth and Bastilla at the end, and the message Carth leaves if a female Revan turns to the dark side.

Yes, you just have to get a lot of influence with him and eventually he'll have a couple of conversations with you about Malachor, and he comes to terms with various things. Then you can convert him. -

Handmaiden was very blah, yes. I didn't care for the voice acting on her, either. Also her back-story was slightly confusing. I'm not sure I understand that nonsense about honouring the face of her mother. To me they all seem to have the same face. if anything, she honours the tendency of her mother to wear her hood down occasionally. -
What Would You Change In Kotor?
darth buch replied to Bastilla_Skywalker's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
In KOTOR 1 I would: - Make the Sith primarily use single, one-bladed lightsabers. Every other dark Jedi in the game uses a double or twin saber, which really doesn't fit with the Star Wars universe. And makes Bastilla's seem less unique. - Make Malak a bit less of a Darth Vader clone. And make Zaalbar, Vandar and T3 less like the original trilogy characters they bear striking resemblances to. - Do something about those robes. - Make the Ebon Hawk gunner game optional. - Introduce side-arms, as in TSL. - And remove the way lightsaber colours correspond to Jedi classes. Personally I don't like yellow sabers. I would have preferred if they were a rarity, like violet ones, and you were given the option 'What colour lightsaber do you want to create?' - Blue / Green. In KOTOR 2 I would: - Get rid of the yellow, silver, veridian, cyan and orange lightsaber crystals. It's BLUE or GREEN, dammit! - Obviously put in a satisfying ending which ties up every loose end and clearly explains the various subtle plot twists. - Have the option to wear Jedi robe hoods up and tie the robes instead of having them flailing about . Espescially when you're navigating a jungle in the rain. - Get rid of 3 or 4 NPC's. Probably GOTO, Hanharr, Handmaiden and HK47. There are just so many it's really hard to use them all, and harder still to record enough dialogue for them all to be of sufficient depth. I would have liked to have known Kreia, Handmaiden, Disciple and Mira's full names from the outset, too. - Scale down the importance and appearance of the random item generator and the influence system. Neither of these were properly utilised. - Tone-down Sion's appearance. He looks a little too cartoonish. He should be shorter, have two eyes and wear a shirt. - A few less references to KOTOR1, if you please. This is set 5 five years later, and is about different people, and shouldn't keep harking on about Revan. Also, I'd massively cut the number of little jokey references to lines from the original SW films. Except the 'We seem to have found it...' one, which I love for some reason. - A few less of the females portraits for Exile should have heavy makeup on. Some of them are so made up it's crazy. Most Jedi don't wear makeup, so why must mine? Also the Exile is a tortured traitor who's been alone in exile for ten years and is now the last Jedi in a broken galaxy, being hunted by a zombie. Picking up guys shouldn't be on her priority list. - Echoing one of the things Brickyard said - Kreia and Visas should start the game with a lightsaber each. If necessary they could be 'usable by: Kreia' or the Exile could only gain lightsaber weapon proficiency after building his/her own. - Stop Disciple from constantly yelling 'You have left me an opening!!' at people who clearly haven't. - And I'd find some way to make Atton less reminiscent of Han Solo. Sorry. Long post - got carried away there! -
His tendency to have 'bad feelings' suggests he was force sensitive.

I loved in K1: - Bastilla (Easy to fall in love with, gorgeous of course, that unique lightsaber and a male Revan turning her back to the lightside was heartbreaking!) - Carth (Just so damn sexy. The 'bend you over my knee' thing did it for me. Also killing him right at the end was perhaps the best written character development in the whole thing.) - Mission (A cute kid character who wasn't at all nauseating, which is an achievement in sci-fi.) - HK (Verrry funny.) - Jolee (Who acted as great light relief. Beautifully acted.) Hated in K1: Only T3 because he had no real point other than opening one door, and Zaalbar because he was so dull and whiny. And I never found an excuse to use him outside Kashykk. I didn't hate Juhani. Don't know why anyone does! She's a nice picture of a very lonely person recovering from addiction, and she keeps referring to racism too, which is very enjoyable. Loved in K2 - Kreia (Just a brilliant concept, and perhaps the best actor from either game.) - Atris (Really enjoyed the idea of a jedi who is falling to the dark side but doesn't know it yet. And arguing with her about the Mandalorian Wars never gets old.) - Atton (Just because he's so funny. Katt's acting is occasionally a bit off, but he has good timing. And I fell in love with him when he taught my Exile how to play Pazaak in her head. - Mira (I keep going on about the acting but she was terrific. Also nice to see a 'nice' version of Bobba Fett, and at last a character who dresses in 'normal' clothes. Why anyone would prefer Hanharr is beyond me.) Hated: - G0-T0, G0-T0, G0-T0. Hate him so much. Forces me onto his ship. Does tons of annoying original trilogy references. Stupid voice. Is a huge floating ball. Hate him. - Visas. Correction - quite liked Visas, and fancied her to death, but she was way to submissive. Someone who greets you daily with 'My life... for yours' is a threat to herslef and shouldn't be on a starship. Also her endless puns about her blindness were worrying. - HK (Again, I like HK a lot, but I don't believe the Exile would pick up Revan's old ship, with Revan's old master and both of Revan's droids on board, AND ally with Revan's old buddy Canderous Ordo. Too many referneces to the original. HK in particular seemed to have nothing to do other than make nostalgic references. I didn't mind Disciple, either. Why does everyone hate the guy? He was a good fighter, reminds us of the Jedi we see in the movies (English accent, devotion to the light etc.) and is quite a sweet guy. Not attractive as such, but amiable enough. The love triangle with him is fun, and his naivity seems to be much funnier than Handmaiden's. Also once I saw him attack a dead laigrek with a heavy repeater, going, 'YOU HAVE LEFT ME AN OPENING!' which was pretty funny. -
I sometimes like to give my apprentices guns, as I can't imagine them learning the supposedly expert art of lightsaber fighting within a couple of days. ukplankton, do you know about the lightsaber copying cheat? I'm pretty sure it only works on the Xbox version, but... 1) Take the Exile and a Jedi party member to a workbench. Equip the lightsaber you have built with Bao-Dur in the Exile's hand. Have at least two colour crystals. 2) Have your other character use the workbench. Change the colour crystal and press 'assemble'. 3) Click on the colour crystal icon again but don't actually change the crystal. Press 'assemble' again. 4) There should be an identical lightsaber in your inventory. Save the game immediately, and then load the game back from the main menu, or the game will crash when you try to interact wit the new saber. 5) Give the new lightsaber as a present to one of your party, and they will have to be nice to you for the rest of the trip. Continuously stress how difficult it was to build and how many components you had to waste making their Adegan lens, for added guilt i.e. 'Wow, Visas, I wish I could build some computer spikes, but I wasted all our components on your Adegan lens. Do you ever play with it?'
-
He is a tricky one, that Vrook. But if you've got a lot of advanced medpacs you can kill him the traditional way. I agree with you about being forced to takr Mandalore with you to Iziz. TSL seems to force you to take people into your party quite often. Much like the way various characters cannot change outfits or repeat themselves a lot, you get the impression Obsidian's writers were trying to tell a story rather than suggest one.
-
Pretty good, actually. And quick. Well done. He may also have been forced to spend time with T3 because he's the only one who can copilot the ship / use the navigation computer. Or something.
-
Just give him good dexterity and tons of rifle feats. And an implant, and headgear and utility belts. He'll be shooting people like a champ in no time. I don't much like to use him either. I usually build up Atton, Mira and Disciple to be just as good with a blaster, and I tend not to use characters from KOTOR1 as much as the new ones.
