Any of you tried playing with oddball gimmick parties?

I made one: Sir Robin and his bards. Here's the portrait I'm using:

Brave-Sir-Robin-monty-python-and-the-hol

PC is a Kind Wayfarer Paladin, Noble background, Knight weapon focus, with Resolve as the dump stat. There's Kana, and four hired bards, with chants like Brave Sir Robin, He Was Not Afraid To Die, and He Bravely Turned His Tail And Fled. The favored strategy is to run away until the five bards have reached three phrases, at which point they summon Phantoms who proceed to obliterate the opposition.

It works quite well actually thank you for asking, even if it's a little monotonous.

Any others?

You mean the "Nature Servant Awaits" party, right?

I'd second the 6 ranger party. Adding one or two casters in there would make it 'better', but it's fun just running around with a zoo of all 6 animals, and just running over enemies. My 6 ranger playthrough was the most enjoyable one I've done, really.

I've also done 6 Chanters, which was kinda fun. In a normal party, the Chanter's Invocations are pretty much a novelty, so it was nice change of pace to instead make them the core strategy. I imagine other '6 of' teams could be fun, as it's just greatly magnifies a classes strengths, making it play good deal different from a balanced party.

6 rogues is doable, but no fun - really.

6 tanky chanters are just great. You can make it so that there's a continous stream of invocations and the different chant buffs combine well. When you get lvl 3 chants it's basically over for your enemies. 6 times The Dragon Slashed is too much for most mobs.

6 ciphers is also lots of fun.

I also like the approach of a "Call of the Wild" party. Rangers, druids, barbs and also a nature godlike whatever (fighter?) would fit in. Too bad there's no priest of Galawain in the game.

Anyways back to funny parties: Sir Robin is hilarious! Never thought of something like that before because I'm always tangled up in powergaming issues. ;) But this is a whole new challenge. :D

What about The Three Stooges?

Masters of the Universe?

Avengers (Hulk=Aumaua naked monk, Iron Man =fighter in plate, Thor=barb with war hammer, Captain America = paladin unarmed with a shield, Hawkeye=Tanger, Black Widow=rogue)?

If anyone wants to ask what a "Tanger" is: it's a ranger with a taser (Stormcaller) OR a damn autocorrection thing.

Oh - and maybe Hulk should be a barb. My bad.

But when Outlander's Frenzy becomes per encounter, he should be a monk.

I just played a themed party: robin hood and his merry men

Robin Hood, ranger with Aslan the lion as a companion

Little John, fighter who uses a quarterstaff

Azim the barbarian (prince of thieves)

Maid Marion, a wizard, maybe druid would have been better

Friar Tuck the priest

Will Scarlet the rogue.

That was fun!

Another thing i do is theme characters, like I had a white wizard who specialized in casting freesze spells and doing freeze damage, or a druid who specialises in corrosive damamge and who buys items/weapons that do corrosive damage or have some ability that fit decay like bilestompers and rotfinger gloves, that ring that gives you fetid carcass and so on.

Did you try them, though?

I too generally dislike Monks in this kind of game, but PoE Monks are quite different from D&D Monks—and they're all kinds of fun to play (also pretty strong.)

Fairy tale theme parties?

Snow White and the 5 dwarves!

Snow White pale elf wizard.

5 boreal dwarves....

Doc paladin, should be priest but I can't stand them...

Dopey ranger

Sleepy druid

Bashful rogue

Grumpy barbarian.

Could do a little red riding hood party, need to think about it...

"Those who look upon gods then say, without even knowing their names, 'He is Fire. She is Dance. He is Destruction. She is Love.' So, to reply to your statement, they do not call themselves gods. Everyone else does, though, everyone who beholds them."
"So they play that on their fascist banjos, eh?"
"You choose the wrong adjective."
"You've already used up all the others.”

You can add that tiny animat - then you have 6 dwarves. ;)

If you want 7 dwarves your ranger can take the boar as animal companion. Isn't a dwarf technically, but looks linke one...

Don't jest, one of my favourite characters is a boreal ranger with a boar companion - it's not the most efficient build but is awesome from a role playing perspective and makes a change from the usual elven rangers with wolf companions. Edited by rheingold
