November 18, 201411 yr I had the Shield Portable, pc gamestream was spotty at the start, even when I upgraded my router to 5g. It did get patched months later, and gamestream was so smooth that I beat the entire Dark Souls 2 on it. I sold it after I got the shield tablet, which is 3x more powerful. But yes PC gamestream is very smooth on the portable and does not lag, but it only streams good on 5g wifi routers Current 3DMark
November 18, 201411 yr Thats very good news indeed! If i am JUST using it to stream pc games, is there really any noticeable differences in the portable or the tablet with controller?
November 18, 201411 yr The nvidia shield stuff looks interesting, but not quite there for me yet. Also, probably not what I'd use/want for basic portable use (eg, not gaming). Still gaming with my 9900k/2080ti/32 ram. One day I suppose a game may inspire me to finally upgrade. Maybe.
November 18, 201411 yr No it's nearly 1:1 instantaneous. It uses hardware rather than software for encoding the game into stream video. Be sure you have the pc requirements, I think it's an nvidia gtx 660 card minimum and a core i5, along with a 5g router Current 3DMark
November 18, 201411 yr Ok cool then ill save my money and stick with just the portable. I looked and i met thebpc requirements but i do not believe my n450 netgear router is gonna cut it so im gonna basically upgrade router and then be set. Tyvm!
November 18, 201411 yr I recommend my router, the Netgear Nighthawk for the best streaming performance. That thing is a beast On a side note, my shield tablet just got updated to Android L, I can't get over how slick it looks Current 3DMark
November 19, 201411 yr That does look very good! Mmm ill have to see if walmart sells that. Im strapped for cash and the discount helps out alot lol.
November 19, 201411 yr I've missed these fora...and Bokishi's tech-porn. Still gaming with my 9900k/2080ti/32 ram. One day I suppose a game may inspire me to finally upgrade. Maybe.
November 19, 201411 yr It's called Black Friday Well unfortuantly black friday has spilled over into thanksgiving and they got me pulling a double from 3ock thanksgiving afternoon when the sales start after a few hours all the way to friday morning at 5 when they do the last sale so im gonna be missing out on all those discounts lol. so far a n600 dual band with a gigabit seems in my price range, im hoping that should be enough. Looking it looks like i can put all my other devices on the 2.5 bandwith and leave the 5 bandwith strictly for the shield. Ahh i maybe not understanding or reading it wrong
November 20, 201411 yr The terminology of wi-fi technologies is a minefield of jargon, but ultimately it's not so much the technology but the physical constraints of your residence that will be the limitation. For example, 5G might be used to refer to wireless AC (IEEE 802.11ac standard) hardware, or it might be Wireless N operating at 5GHz. And here's the thing: the Shield doesn't support wireless AC. Dual band is also a tricksy issue. Dual-band might mean simultaneous transmission, but it could also mean it just has the option of selecting 5GHz instead of 2.4GHz. Honestly, I would try sticking with your current router and testing whether it's even close to playable. If it's close but not quite enough, then sure, upgrade, but if it's not even remotely playable, then nothing but physical relocation of the hardware will do. The most important specification when doing stuff with wi-fi is "how many walls are in between the devices" and "what are those walls made out of". L I E S T R O N GL I V E W R O N G
November 20, 201411 yr I wish the Shield was AC compatible, the iPhone 6 Plus is, but that's not gamestream compatible. I'm guessing the Shield Tablet/Portable 2 will have AC wifi Current 3DMark
November 29, 201411 yr Anyone know how well Beamdog's Infinity Engine ports play on a regular iPhone 6? Thinking about getting Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition for my new phone, though I have reservations on how well it would play on my screen. Quote “Political philosophers have often pointed out that in wartime, the citizen, the male citizen at least, loses one of his most basic rights, his right to life; and this has been true ever since the French Revolution and the invention of conscription, now an almost universally accepted principle. But these same philosophers have rarely noted that the citizen in question simultaneously loses another right, one just as basic and perhaps even more vital for his conception of himself as a civilized human being: the right not to kill.” -Jonathan Littell <<Les Bienveillantes>> Quote "The chancellor, the late chancellor, was only partly correct. He was obsolete. But so is the State, the entity he worshipped. Any state, entity, or ideology becomes obsolete when it stockpiles the wrong weapons: when it captures territories, but not minds; when it enslaves millions, but convinces nobody. When it is naked, yet puts on armor and calls it faith, while in the Eyes of God it has no faith at all. Any state, any entity, any ideology that fails to recognize the worth, the dignity, the rights of Man...that state is obsolete." -Rod Serling
November 29, 201411 yr Hitman Go is great. It's hard to believe but it res Ally is. Got it for free a while back.
