PK htiw klaw eriF Posted November 13, 2012 Posted November 13, 2012 Russia is essentially emulating China: crush opposition, censor all media including the Internet, and make a few rich and powerful families even richer and more powerful. Maybe they think that if they emulate China, they will matter again. Not a very good idea, considering that China's path is unsustainable. There is only so long you can have a few doing extremely well while the rest of the country lives in abysmal conditions. This doesn't surprise me at all, this is the model that all dictatorships have to follow to stay in power. They generally curtail the influence of free press ensure that independent political parties are marginalized control the police and army rigidly restrict the Internet Its funny but you see these steps almost every time a country go's the authoritarian route. But Russia is still an important player in the world and doe's have influence in many area's so this is something we need to accept begrudgingly. Hellfell Posted November 13, 2012 Posted November 13, 2012 Russia is a synonym for irony. Only boring people get bored

And in that they differ from any other country how? The amount of corruption, industrialization, civil rights, political freedoms and average income varies greatly by country. Even so, you're right in saying that the rich get richer while the poor get poorer, a result of neoliberal capitalist economic policies adopted in the past 40 years. obyknven Posted November 13, 2012 Posted November 13, 2012 La Russie ne boude pas, elle se recueille.
Zoraptor Posted November 13, 2012 Posted November 13, 2012 The west only has two takes on Russia; "Oh no the slavic horde coming to crush us!!!" and "hahaha look at that funny Boris dance hahaha Russia so funny!!!". Been the same since Ivan Grozny.

BruceVC Posted November 14, 2012 Posted November 14, 2012 Well, we do look their women too. Although Ukrainians are much prettier. I agree, Russian women are beautiful. Solonik Posted November 14, 2012 Posted November 14, 2012 This thread is hilarious. Russia is essentially emulating China: crush opposition, censor all media including the Internet, and make a few rich and powerful families even richer and more powerful. "Make a few rich and powerful families richer and more powerful." If you think the US has more social mobility than Russia (especially Russia a decade or two ago, but even now), you are absolutely delusional. As far as Russia emulating China - haha. Also, you think the US doesn't monitor internet use? Maybe they think that if they emulate China, they will matter again. They matter more than China. In terms of education quality, technology, land, and resources. Also, there are skirmishes on the Chinese / Russian border, where patrols take potshots at each other, as China is eyeing Russian land due to their population density. Russia is also the only country in the world that can hold up to US air superiority, when you factor in the S400 and Tunguska systems, as well as all the stationary AA. Russia does not look up to China. curtail the influence of free press ensure that independent political parties are marginalized control the police and army rigidly restrict the Internet Let's take a look at all of these in the US. curtail the influence of free press - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4o7wNeNL0Q. Brave New World baby - look at the majority of news sources the US public uses - Fox, CNN, etc. ensure that independent political parties are marginalized - yea, because the Democratic and Republican parties differ SOO much and an independent canditate is going to win, right? This might as well be a single party system. control the police and army rigidly - ... ... ... hahahaahahaaha restrict the Internet - covered above Russia has always been like that. It's funny when slavophiles have this delusional fantasy image of Russia as a prosperous land of free democracy and equal rights and so on. "Has always been like that" You obviously don't understand the concepts of market saturation and a free economy. You have also not seen what market diversity is, so you can't understand how DOMINATED the US market is by oligopolies. You also don't understand what happened to Russia in the 90s and how many poor people made it big, just how much social mobility there was. You have also never seen a society where the rich live in the same buildings with the poor. You also don't really know what "the rich" are, as you never even see them in the US. Your post is more amusing than you can imagine.
