Morgoth Posted November 7, 2012 Posted November 7, 2012 Buying a brand new console at release is for the most part always a stupid idea, for several reasons: a) Launch titles are rushed crap. b) Developers ain't gonna get hold of the final SDKs about a couple months before the consoles ship. So add 2+ years after launch until you see the first real "Next-Gen" titles showing up. Kinda like this generation which didn't really took off until end 2007 and later with first quality titles being released. c) Obvious high pricing and hardware/software glitches that could emerge with the first SKUs. Rain makes everything better.
Drowsy Emperor Posted November 7, 2012 Posted November 7, 2012 (edited) Of course. There's always the temptation to jump in while its got all the new thing shine on it though. And I don't know what features they're going to offer that would make for a strong motivation to get them early. I doubt there's going to be anything nearly as useful as Blue Ray capability was at the time (and even now). On a totally unrelated note, my recently rediscovered PS2 is starting to show disc read errors on occasion. Considering that my big PC is unavailable, I'd really be depressed if the PS2's laser dies on me. Even if I might be able to afford a PS3 as a replacement I sure don't have cash for an LCD/LED tv, and its worthless without that. Tale Posted November 8, 2012 Posted November 8, 2012 I noticed that they dropped Bioware from the Command & Conquer site a few months ago. I think it was around the time they dropped Generals 2 as the title. "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."

Drowsy Emperor Posted November 8, 2012 Posted November 8, 2012 (edited) Not very evocative. We have the rugged american (inevitably the good guy) on the right, the projects yo in the middle with his shirt over long sleeves "black people can't dress properly" thing and probably the resident butt ugly psycho on the left. I can't get excited over GTA anymore. The fourth one took that concept as far as it was going to go and even then there were signs that the series was going downhill. Nepenthe Posted November 8, 2012 Posted November 8, 2012 Anything from Rockstar is an automatic Day 1 purchase. That is, if they plan a PC version, which they most likely will. I've either hated all rockstar games I've gotten since vice city or gotten terrible diarrhea (la noire), so I'm definitely avoiding them in the future. You're a cheery wee bugger, Nep. Drowsy Emperor Posted November 8, 2012 Posted November 8, 2012 (edited) I have nothing against Rockstar games, the novelty of their sandbox gameplay has merely worn off after so many years of repetition. I just recently finished Bully and the game, while well crafted was nowhere as much fun as it should have been. The way they (mis)treat and eventually ruin the studios they run is more predictable than Newton's laws. I used to love Max Payne but I felt it was a nicely wrapped up story without the need for a sequel. MP2 sorta proved this, it felt so tacked on and redundant. But I could be persuaded to try MP3. While I'm certainly confused by the naming decisions the past year or so, it almost makes me wonder if the initiative was something really pushed by Ray (who was the VP of RPGs or some similar title). The "going there and back" is mostly just "Okay?" from people here though.

Volourn Posted November 8, 2012 Posted November 8, 2012 "Bioware Edmonton 15 guys again?" Whenw as BIO just 15 guys though? Probably their very first game and that's it. They definitely had more than 15 when making BG. DWARVES IN PROJECT ETERNITY = VOLOURN HAS PLEDGED $250.
anubite Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 (edited) Um, well when BioWare made BG it had Black Isle helping them, so BW itself could have been as small as 15. As for the news, I find it funny. How does John Spaghettio's still have his job again? They spent all that money buying BioWare - a company with a strong implcit brand name. They then used that asset to brand other smaller studios and give them prestiege. They then asked BioWare to **** all over its reputation, branding other companies with a negative image. I guess there's something to this you learn in Business school. It could be all apart of a larger plan we're missing? Nobody can be this stupid unintentionally. Edited November 9, 2012 by anubite I made a 2 hour rant video about dragon age 2. It's not the greatest... but if you want to watch it, here ya go:

Volourn Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 "Um, well when BioWare made BG it had Black Isle helping them, so BW itself could have been as small as 15." Typical anti BIO dude answer. a) BIS was just the publisher. BIS is as responsible for the development of BG as Atari was for MOTB. BG is BIO's baby. Period. BIS did two major things for BG - FU reccommended using the Infinity Engine game for a D&D game and QA 9BIO also had their own QA IIRC even at that time and definitely by the time BG2 came along) which is what publishers do. Then again, you are liekly one of those who believe that BIO only published the IE games. L0Lz b) BIO had more than 15 employees for BG. RTFM. "Unlike most people on this forum, I wasn't using that as an example of a positive outcome. " The point is that BIO has never really been some rinky dinky small time organziation. Once they got their first taste of gaming, they were increasing the size of the company rapidly. DWARVES IN PROJECT ETERNITY = VOLOURN HAS PLEDGED $250.
HoonDing Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 Actually by licensing the Infinity Engine, BioWare actually helped developing certain Black Isle arrpeegees. R00fles! 1 The ending of the words is ALMSIVI.
Orchomene Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 I've never had a console, but I don't see the advantage of having a console over a PC (with the exception of someone not used to computer tech) : - you can have a PC for the same price (more or less, just avoid the top of the tech) - you can connect the PC to a TV set, put controllers and play on your sofa. - you can mod games with a PC - you can also use your PC as a computer But I'm open to different opinions, since I don't have a console, I can't judge. 1
