Keeping Drizzt kit

Recommended Posts

At higher levels, depending on party size, the vampire chamber in Firkraag's dungeon can hold around twenty vampires, and there will be at least two Greater wolfweres (with friends) in a corridor later. I only ever encountered Iron golems, though.

All golems can easily be killed with Melf's minute meteors, anyway (even though it shouldn't, but the game doesn't strictly follow P&P rules).

Is it wrong that I'm more interested in threads like this than those dealing with new games? I've all but given up gaming, but if the bug bites me, it's going to be either BG2 or DX.

OT Thanks to Walsingham's creative thinking it's possible to outmaneuver some annoying mythology character and keep Drizzt's trash, but frankly I don't see the point. When the devs decide to be so in-your-face with the cheats, playing by the rules is absurd. Much more satisfying to turn into a flayer and devour his brain. Or would be, if the fight didn't go like *switch to cutscene mode, wizard walks up to you, wizard casts cutscene-Imprisonment while you stare at the pretty colors*. I think there was a mod out there somewhere that modified the encounter so the scripted shenanigans became an actual fight.

I think you might be glossing over some BG1 NPCs there.

Heh, quite.

All golems can easily be killed with Melf's minute meteors, anyway (even though it shouldn't, but the game doesn't strictly follow P&P rules).

They can also be stunned with monkfist, for some reason.

The Iron / Adamantine golem (I remember an Adamantine variant as well) can be cheesed by luring it back to the entrance of its chamber, which is too small for it to fit through. Oftentimes this would cause an effect akin to the classic technique of fending off a lion with the legs of a chair - in deciding which party member to attack it becomes helpless, jittering from left to right as your fighters (usually Minsc w/ Lilarcor +3 in my case, and Jaheira with a +3 club from Trademeet if she's gone that far) hack away at it.

Anyway, I've gotten quite a bit of help from the SHS forums as of late, and I've quashed quite a few bugs as well as added custom music to the mod (a Deaf Center snippet). The end of the mod in its current form is nigh. From there, I'll see if I can't throw in a quest at some point.

Also been talking to a guy about adding in a custom merchant with monk-exclusive equipment, to help offset the somewhat wonky power curve of early-mid BG2 monks. We'll see.

I remember doing the Cult of the Unseeing Eye almost right after Irenicus' dungeon on my very first playthrough, and getting my ass handed to me many many times by the beholders. That quest was definitely not scaled to my level.

Most frustrating thing about it was that there was no return. Of course that also made it extremely rewarding when I finally made it through.

When I first met Drizz't, in late 1997, I wasn't aware of his legenday status in the novel industry as yet.

I approve of your Drizzt murders. Especially since, like me, you didn't know who the hell he was.

Mod update!

CHANGELOG:

v1.3b (so named because it contains only bugfixes and no new content, aside from music)

- Added "custom music". Should work without clashing w/ existing music, but let me know if anything weird happens. It will fire whenever a PC/Auden banter starts.

- Fixed a problem with all of Auden's PC-NPC banters "cascading" all at once.

- Reupholstered the entire coding apparatus to a more efficient and workable concept (much obliged to mr. Zyraen for the assist) and left NPC/NPC banters to the whim of the native BG2 banter engine. Less hassle, and more natural-feeling, at least it should be.

- Fixed some typos in variable placement causing the Auden-Yoshimo initial banter to repeat ad nauseam. Check your work kids!
