What do you Atheists of the forum believe in?

I do not know if the universe has an intelligent creator of some sort, or if it came to be by some other means I do not understand. I do *know* that if there is an intelligent creator, then it does not know, nor care, about me. I am beneath the notice of such a being, even more so than a single bacterium is beneath the notice of a biologist looking at a culture on her petri dish. And you know what, I feel good about it.

what do you think caused everything to come into existence in the first place?

Is it not possible there was a universe of some sort before the big bang?

Maybe if the genius-idiots at CERN got off their collective ass and used all those goddamn PhDs to ****ing weld properly, we'd know by now...

In 7th grade, I teach the students how Chuck Norris took down the Roman Empire, so it is good that you are starting early on this curriculum.

Yes teh, because somehow having a phd means that you have a lot of carry over with basic trade skills.

Biggest thing about the time before what we currently know about the beginnings (1x10^-14 seconds) is that the standard laws of physics and realities go out the flippin window because everything is just so different. There is enough energy concentration that basic atomic structures can't even form properly.

Also, this sucker will probably tell us more about the origins than the LHC.

The JWST is a baby compared to this sucker (which coincidentally will also be paired with the most powerful super computer in the world - once it's invented!)

problem with that is that it's under the atmosphere and thus gets interference from several sources compared to the space scopes which have much clearer pictures.

If welding can't be considered an application of particle physics, then I don't know what can!

The sheer resolution and multiple redundancy of the SKA make up for that so many times over it's not funny, though!

EDIT: Not to mention that the reason it's going to be built in the Australian outback desert is, surprise, because of the vast radio silence out there! It sure as heck won't be because the middle of nowhere is a convenient place to lay thousands of kilometres of fibre optic cable to... cables which will be - at any one instant - carrying the current Internet usage bandwidth of all of Europe in day. That's exabytes of data per day, which IBM is inventing an exaflops supercomputer to process at the site.

I believe that we don't have the sufficient advancement to understand the creation of the universe, but past evidence shows that sooner or later, we will. Though I likely won't be around for that. Maybe in a couple hundred years if we haven't destroyed each other by then.
