Majek Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 (edited) And Steam as DRM. I really hope it's not true. Edited September 20, 2010 by Majek 1.13 killed off Ja2.
Morgoth Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 Steam buying GoG? That wouldn't make any sense. Steam can just offer the same stuff as Gog does. Rain makes everything better.
Purkake Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 Not really a fan of the Steam idea either. The new games have DRM, older games don't system worked pretty well...
PoetAndMadman Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 It might be really Valve buying CDProjekt for whatever other reason. Maybe they want to have european based studio, because it's cheap. Or they want to enter RPG market and CDProjekt RED owns quite successful franchise. Plus I don't think CDProjekt with their recent financial problems was very expensive.
Morgoth Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 Valve + CDR = Not gonna happen. Both pursue too different goals. Rain makes everything better.

Tale Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 Valve + CDR = Not gonna happen. Both pursue too different goals. So, CDR isn't pursuing the goal of "make money through selling videogames?" "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."
Purkake Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 They posted an update: UPDATE 20.09.2010First of all, we apologize everyone for the whole situation and closing GOG.com. We do understand the timing for taking down the site caused confusion and many users didn't manage to download all their games. Unfortunately we had to close the service due to business and technical reasons. At the same time we guarantee that every user who bought any game on GOG.com will be able to download all their games with bonus materials, DRM-free and as many times as they need starting this Thursday. The official statement from GOG.com's management concerning the ongoing events is planned on Wednesday. If you want to receive further information about GOG.com, please send an email to update_media@gog.com if you're a media representative or to update_users@gog.com if you're a user without a GOG account.
Gfted1 Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 Eh? So they really are closing down? Me confused. "I'm your biggest fan, Ill follow you until you love me, Papa"
PastramiX Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 If they're closing-up shop, then I don't think that they would announce that everyone will have unlimited access to download games previously purchased; that wouldn't be consistent with the technical closure that would come with business closure, obviously, unless if they've rigged a legal deal to allow such a "mass withdrawal" so to speak. Again, I think this is just PR stunt... or not. Alpha Protocol Wiki
Nepenthe Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 Steam buying GoG? That wouldn't make any sense. Steam can just offer the same stuff as Gog does. Sure it would. Then Valve'd be the only ones selling the games, not competing with somebody else. Somebody with no DRM, maybe? You're a cheery wee bugger, Nep. Have I ever said that? Reapercussions
LadyCrimson Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 I guess we have to wait until Wed. to find out. Either that, or they'll keep "teasing" us with more ambiguous statements. “Things are as they are. PoetAndMadman Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 (edited) With Baldur's Gate at 00:13. That was hell of marketing stunt! ;P Edited September 21, 2010 by PoetAndMadman
Purkake Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 Nothing like a ridiculous marketing stunt to lose goodwill.
Gfted1 Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 How does that video in any way suggest a marketing stunt? "I'm your biggest fan, Ill follow you until you love me, Papa"
WorstUsernameEver Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 How does that video in any way suggest a marketing stunt? They never had Baldur's Gate on GOG.com for one.
Gfted1 Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 I see. Too bad Steam doesnt sell it, Id love to pick up the entire BG series w/ expansions, all patched up and ready to go. "I'm your biggest fan, Ill follow you until you love me, Papa"
Purkake Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 More like patched up and ready to be modded for 3h
Majek Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 Bah, widescreen mod and bugfixes is enough modding. Maybe add one custom sword +4, +1 fire, +1 ice damage, but that's really it :D 1.13 killed off Ja2.
Nightshape Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 Nothing like a ridiculous marketing stunt to lose goodwill. Oh come on, it made everyone look, and talk about it... I came up with Crate 3.0 technology. Crate 4.0 - we shall just have to wait and see.Down and out on the Solomani RimNow the Spinward Marches don't look so GRIM!
PastramiX Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 As much as how frustrating of a tease this is, I'd have to say that this marketing stunt, whatever it might hold, has been incredibly effective. It's made everyone jump up and take notice... exactly what PR campaigns are designed to do. Granted, it's quite a jarring thing to do, but nonetheless effective. Alpha Protocol Wiki
Gfted1 Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 Take notice of what? Was this supposed to make people flood to GoG in droves and buy up all their games? If anything, I would think this stunt would be counter productive and give people the impression that they are unstable. "I'm your biggest fan, Ill follow you until you love me, Papa"
Purkake Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 Nothing like a ridiculous marketing stunt to lose goodwill. Oh come on, it made everyone look, and talk about it... It mostly confused people and still does. Plus, I'm petty like that.
