Slowtrain
Master of Orion. Notice how I can belittle your beliefs without calling you names. It's a useful skill to have particularly where you aren't allowed to call people names. It's a mistake to get too drawn in/worked up. I mean it's not life or death, it's just two guys posting their thoughts on a message board. If it were personal or face to face all the usual restraints would be in place, and we would never have reached this place in the first place. Try to remember that. I want teh kotor 3
Also, if you have a PS2, NIS put out some great SRPGs. In 7th grade, I teach the students how Chuck Norris took down the Roman Empire, so it is good that you are starting early on this curriculum. R.I.P. Purkake
I guess if you can manage with Europa Universalis, you can manage at Disgaea as well. Both are over my head, though.
Aponez
The original Dune was an interesting one. It had a pretty neat narrative to go along with it, and a lot of the early stuff is more adventure game than strategy game. A ton of fun. Didnt count it for that, the strategy one would be the Dune II: Building of a Dinasty or the Dune 2000 who is the same game but with better graphics, the old Warcraft: Orcs and Humans was good too or the Warlords Battlecry series I'd probably recommend the original Dune over either of the other Dune games to be honest. If you're looking for a RTS game, there are better games to try than the Dune games IMO. Thorton, i said that games talking about old games Slowtrain, i suppose is talking about MoO I and MoO II only because the MoO III was only , the old Lords of the Realm I and II were average too PRIUS FLAMMIS COMBUSTA QUAM ARMIS NUMANCIA VICTA

Purkake
Speaking of strategy games, is anyone here hardcore enough for Dward Fortress?
Tigranes
I've seen it, I ain't hardcore enough. ETW even with 1.5gb of mods - well, Darthmod was a big letdown. Battle AI is still horrible with infantry completely rearranging themselves right in front of me (hey you, regiment on the far left change with the guy on the far right!), Campaign AI with meaningless alliances. Still a bloated piece of crap that flatters to deceive. Deus Ex is awesome, though the endgame is far too long... might check out some of the otehr suggestions soon. unskilled-
Rome Total War: Rome Total Realism mod. Grab that and see you in a few months! If not, Front Mission 3 for the ps1 is a good turn-based strategy game. Final Fantasy Tactics too if you're into that sorta thing. Mount and Blade perhaps? Go for the old x-com games then, or maybe Jagged Alliance 2 1.13 mod. The Themepark game made by Chris Taylor is pretty addicting as well. Rollercoaster Tycoon i think. For sports, Baseball Mogul is where its at for baseball, as for Soccer games I'd recommend Football Manager.
Tigranes
RTR was brilliant, yes - it really transformed the retarded RTW. Played it to death, though, and like all great TW mods, it couldn't fix some of the many, many hardcoded idiocies in the AI. I enjoyed FF Tactics and Mount & Blade, and I'm a longtime FM addict, too. But one day I might try Jagged Alliance... Serrano
Since you mentioned JA... Does Frozen Synapse look like something that would appeal to you? I still have the extra serial key that's just collecting dust if you (or anyone) want it. The only downside is that it's a bit of an annoying system to give someone a friend copy, basically you'd need to create an email address specifically for the game as the buyer needs an address to send the details. http://www.frozensynapse.com/ Edited July 4, 2010 by Serrano
Gizmo
Two come to mind as utterly fantastic (actually 4)... but I don't know where you can get them. , Homeworld:Cataclysm , . Calax
I think Myth 1 might have made it to free ware, myth 2 is like 5 bucks, both are REALLY rough games in terms of difficulty. Gah, can't believe I forgot this but Myth is actually based off (loosely) off the Black Company books (to the point where in one of the development screenies a character is named after one of the creatures in the books). The story is crafted pretty well, and your ai is smart enough (for it's time it's pretty awesome) except for the dwarves who have a tendancy to blow up your own guys. Dwarf: INCOMING! AI narrator: Casualty, Casualty, Casualties (as the dwarfs Molotovs land in your troops) Edited July 4, 2010 by Calax Victor of the 5 year fan fic competition! Oner
Tigranes, did you play Incubation? BTW, I'd be willing to waste my lifeparticipate in a grand battle of wit and planning in a game of vanilla Disciples II, if anyone feels like playing. unskilled-
If your into emulators and fixing translation patches to obscure games, I highly recommend Romancing Saga 3 for the snes (translation by aeon genesis). Non-linear story, 8 main characters to pick from, plus 12+ side-characters to recruit and a plethora of mini-games as well. Or you should give Shin Megami Tensei (for the snes, aeon genesis translated) a shot. Its pokemon before pokemon, 'cept more serious and darker, harder and a helluva lot more fun (imo). Ogre Battle 64 for the n64 emulator is a true classic. Now thanks to emulation improvement, you can run it without any graphical glitches that were present in years prior. Or you could settle for Ogre Battle for the snes/ps1 or even Tactics Ogre for the ps1 as well. If you want to go old school, you could try Darklands (if you can find it that is, its pretty rare). It is the game that Mount and Blade tried to recreate, with some degree of success.
