MOVEMENT NOISE?

Recently I've just unlocked a new perk which stated "Movement Noise -20%". I'm very curious: WHAT DOES THIS ACTUALLY MEAN?! lol. I'm not exactly sure what this does. I mean is it that while I'm in crouch mode and I'm moving that I'm walking even more slightly;or conversely is it that now when I run I'm making even less noise. I don't understand. Can anyone help me!?

 

...also I wanted to know is it possible to run and be in a relatively close range of somebody and not have them hear you?

It means that when you're crouching, you generate 20% less noise. If you want to run silently, there is a skill in the stealth tree called "Silent Running". It's 2 ranks, I think, before unlocking basic "Shadow Operative".

But is there any way on how to be stealthy in the game without crouching? Because to me it seems like I'm spending 70% of playing through a given level with my torso hugging my knees. I know of the Shadow Operative skill, but it's only a temporary advantage.

 

Is it possible to move efficiently in the game without having to stay in the crouch position throughout a large portion of a map? I don't know about anyone else but it's really bugging me. I don't know if it's because I'm making it more of a bigger deal than what it is or what.

 

Does anyone else feel the same way?

Nope, that's what you get for playing stealthy. Running about isn't stealthy.

 

And yeah, -% movement noise means you have less chance to be heard when sneaking up on someone, even with loud armor on.

But if you run they hear you almost within a instant. It's like the game demands for you to play constantly in a crouch stance. Every time you move around while walking or running it's almost inevitable you'll end up being discovered.

 

Is it just me or do you feel as though in order to play this game properly you have to be in a crouch position at all times. Is this annoying to anyone??? Can the game be played in a fun manner without running. Someone let me know because I'm knew to this game and still coming to grips with everything.

You don't really *have* to do a stealthy playthrough, you know.

My whole ordeal is that I would like to run or walk throughout the game without them hearing me every time I do so. Is it possible at all to walk or run without alerting the guards on patrol? My whole gripe is having to crouch all the time and I know I don't have to play stealthy. However, the alternative when I'm running I can't seem to pass through without someone hearing me. Is there any way to reduce the amount of noise they hear while your running? I don't always want to run and be spotted. You know?

Except when with the Silent Running active ability, it's not possible. And I wouldn't recommend it if there is any enemy in the vicinity that can see you, since standing about makes you completely visible.

Unfortunately, asking "Can I run around and be stealthy" is the same asking "Can I play a football game without running". If they balanced the game so that you could do this, then the entire game would be broken, because everybody would be able to 'stealth' and the enemies would be deaf and blind.

 

You can look in NoiseStats.ini (see my post in the modding thread) and change the values, so that running makes just as little noise as Stealth. However, this would break the game and make it very easy.... your call, though.
