Humodour Posted June 19, 2010 Posted June 19, 2010 Do we have ANY other big MMO on the horizon? Nope, just tons of generic MMOGs from Korea and some superhero crap. I don't know why people found it funny that KotOR Online might get good subscriber numbers. Good numbers don't need to be Blizzards scale, just one tenth of it would do just fine. And that would STILL be bigger than almost every other MMO out there.
Purkake Posted June 19, 2010 Posted June 19, 2010 You're doing it wrong, mate. The way things are going TOR seems to be the next big MMO, at least from the marketing and budget perspective. http://i41.tinypic.com/ibc1nm.gif' alt='ibc1nm.gif'>

Consider that 1/10 of WoW's subscribers is 1 million people. At $10 to $20 per month, that's 10 to 20 million dollars PER MONTH. That's revenue, not profit, but you can see how tantalising an MMO is for a game developer.

Purkake Posted June 19, 2010 Posted June 19, 2010 Well, that's my prediction and I'm sticking to it. I'll be sure to gloat about it, once it happens.
Hurlshort Posted June 19, 2010 Posted June 19, 2010 Final Fantasy should do well, it is an established MMO. It looks pretty good, I'll probably even give it a try.
HoonDing Posted June 19, 2010 Posted June 19, 2010 There might even come a TES MMO from Zenimax Online Studios. The ending of the words is ALMSIVI.
Hurlshort Posted June 19, 2010 Posted June 19, 2010 There might even come a TES MMO from Zenimax Online Studios. While I would say that it is definitely in development, it is still probably about two years away from any announcements, and likely a good 3-4 years before any type of release.
HoonDing Posted June 19, 2010 Posted June 19, 2010 I think SW:TOR is just going to get lost in the deluge of other MMOs that have been posted above... while I would venture to guess that the EA fatcats are counting on biting a considerate chunk of WoW's lead. But a TES MMO has a high chance of becoming the new #1... that is, if Zenimax doesn't go overboard with the system requirements. The ending of the words is ALMSIVI.

But a TES MMO has a high chance of becoming the new #1... that is, if Zenimax doesn't go overboard with the system requirements. How would it get lost in the 5 MMOs that are going to be released in the next three years? It's a Star Wars branded MMO that has a huge budget and quite a bit of press attention.
Hurlshort Posted June 19, 2010 Posted June 19, 2010 SW:TOR won't have any trouble selling millions of copies at release. If less popular IP's like Age of Conan and Warhammer can have a huge releases, then a Star Wars property by a popular developer is a very easy bet. The struggle of MMO's is to maintain the numbers from the first few months. Almost every MMO released has had a precipitous drop in subscribers after the first couple months. That is what separates WoW from everyone else, it grew stronger over time and has still maintained a very high subscription rate.
Purkake Posted June 19, 2010 Posted June 19, 2010 Obviously, no one can really predict the staying power. My original point was that it's going to be the biggest MMO, in terms of sales and coverage, in the foreseeable future. As for E3 news, Kinect doesn't work while sitting down. Standing up to skip forward in a movie sounds like fun
Morgoth Posted June 19, 2010 Posted June 19, 2010 There's also The Secret World which might or might not take a considerable piece of the MMO cake. Rain makes everything better.
Calax Posted June 19, 2010 Posted June 19, 2010 http://spoonyexperiment.com/ Ze spooney one went to E3. He's not very flattering to bethesda or F:NV because as he puts it "New Vegas adds weapon customization, and that's it... somebody could have done this with with a mod" Victor of the 5 year fan fic competition! He's not very flattering to bethesda or F:NV because as he puts it "New Vegas adds weapon customization, and that's it... somebody could have done this with with a mod" Either he hasn't done his research or he's accentuating the whole 'Fallout 3 refined' sentiment of the press intentionally. Who the hell is this buffoon by the way?

I don't want your damn lemons, what am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life's manager. Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons. Do you know who I am? I'm the man who's gonna burn your house down! With the lemons. I'm going to to get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!"
