The only reason you couldn't get help from the alliance or the council is exactly because you were working with cerberus. Or did you spacebar through those conversations, too? It's kinda silly that you take everything TIM says at face value, the moment you meet him, too.

Sure the council and the alliance don't like that Shepherd is working for Cerberus, but if he went to them and said, "hey I want to come back to you, I'm not gonna work for those terrorists anymore, blah blah blah, what can you do for me," what could they do? Give him his spectre status back? Okay, they did that, but it's like a Justicar trying to get by on reputation outside of Asari space. Everyone knows they're badasses but nobody really cares about spectres in the Terminus. Sure the alliance could re-instate him as a commander again. Then what? Give him a cruiser, send him into the terminus and make him a target for every pirate, smuggler, outlaw and who knows who else? Or with an army and start a war? No one in council space is willing to do that.

 

Cerberus has the Normandy mk II ready to go. It's the only way Shepherd can get around the Terminus unmolested.

 

I wouldn't say that Shepherd is taking everything that TIM says at face value. I just don't think there's much choice, and Shepherd knows it.

 

Shockwave may have been cool, but it was ****ing useless on any difficulty other than easy.

I didn't find it to be that exactly. It was quite good at throwing bad guys over the edges of long drops.

Certainly, the alliance wouldn't have had a hard time dealing with the Collector's only cruiser if they ever tried to operate anywhere other than the Terminus systems.

Probably why they don't. Besides, their operations have never been large scale enough for anyone to take notice before.

Also, it's not clear why making a human reaper would do any better than Sovereign did in the first game at opening the Citadel relay, especially now that they wouldn't have Saren inside the control room to keep the arms open and let it in, and now that the humans and turians are developing weapons based on technology from Sovereign.

Maybe the reapers thought a human reaper would have a better understanding of human behaviour, instincts, etc.

 

The fact that reapers are modeled after organics itself is a bit contradictory to what was established in the first game (Sovereign detested organics, repeatedly stressed how they were inferior beings, etc.). In addition to this, it simply doesn't make any sense to model a reaper after a human - humans didn't evolve to make a good spacefaring machine entity. Ignoring the sci-fi goofiness, though, that's still a really weak reason to put so many resources towards making another reaper when the first one didn't work.

 

As for staying in the terminus system, it's stated that the collectors would have to take Earth to complete the reaper, which simply couldn't have happened given how tremendously weak they were.

 

Working for the Illusive man simply doesn't make sense. The Alliance could certainly supply Shepard with a ship, in fact, if he weren't working with Cerberus they probably would have supplied him with anything he needed. The alliance being worthless is a dumb plot device which makes absolutely no sense - after all, it was the alliance fleet that destroyed Sovereign. Add to this the fact that it's possible for a very traumatic experience in Shepard's past to have been caused by Cerberus, and that Cerberus did some pretty damn evil things in the first game for which no explanation is ever given, and it pretty much falls apart.

Whether it's absurd or not very much depend on how the consequences influence ME3. If they simply pretend it didn't take place or just send you the odd email/cameo, then it was indeed absurd. If you get to keep your surviving team members for a final showdown, much less so.

i liked mass effect 2 better.

 

i thought it looked better, played better, and had better sound and music. the plot was a little worse, and i agree with what oblarq is saying with regard to the reaper nonsense and TIM nonsense plot issues. doesnt make it a worse GAME though.

 

i liked the characters more in ME 2. and I liked the level design more (but its still not great).

 

the only thing i really really liked better in ME 1 was not having unified cool-down.

 

i'm hoping that you have all your surviving crew members back for part 3, AND a new cast of 3-4 characters who can join (to fill in ranks for people who lost most of their crew, and to add some fresh faces)

I really can't figure out what they'll do with the crew of ME2. After running those quests for them, they feel played out. I don't want to do anymore sidequests for those guys. I'll just end up screaming.

i agree that I dont want to do more sidequests FOR them, but I want to be able to take them with me on other types of sidequests. I like the idea of having a big team of specialists and you have to choose the right people for the task at hand (ie get info about what enemies you will face on your next quest so you can take the right people to deal with things)

Can you see them including the characters without more character-centric sidequests? Is that even heard of anymore?

 

I just know that if I see Samara again she'll come up to me after a few missions to say that another of her daughts has gone off the reservation.

Or Jacob now needs us to go see his mother.

I like ME2 a lot. But my Normandy is strictly a one carryon baggage per seat airline.

i dont care if its heard of anymore, bioware should do it anyway to make me happy cause im in charge and i get what i want.

 

slightly off topic:

some games would be better if they would re-examine the past a little more.

 

final fantasy series: I am looking at you. seriously looking. final fantasy 6 was awesome, try making something like that again. last time you tried making final fantasy 6 you made final fantasy 7, and that game rules. so try again, maybe we'll get another game to rival the good ol days.

Best ME2 ending is where Shepard and only Zaeed survive. That way it fits with his old war stories where he always comes out as sole survivor.

The ending of the words is ALMSIVI.

What about Garrus? Bonus points if there's some way to get him to blame Shepard for the crew's death.

I wonder if they mean players or playthroughs. I played about 3 games as male and then tried to play the 4th as female (ending badly, I suck at playing female).

 

Not too many surprises except two:

- Garrus' popularity. Mister self righteous vigilante just never sat particularly well with me :sorcerer:

- Only 50% of players have the Normandy fully upgraded by the end of the game?!? :p

 

How many is 14% of the squad... 1 member on average? I think I lost Zaeed half the time (probably a result of picking the "good" option during his quest).

 

Edit: Heh, 10% like pickled Krogan, the thought of not releasing him never occurred to me :p

Maany maaaany people who are used to "simpler" games (mhahawha, like ME2 is complicated) play ME2, since it's basically a shooter, and they arent used to that sort of things. While that's understandable, I still found it funny how many had no idea what they did wrong when their crew started to die.

Or they just did the "essential" upgrades and didn't bother with the extra probes and/or fuel...

Garrus was my favorite NPC. I used him a lot on my second play through of ME1, so he was a natural choice for me in ME2. I also was trying to stay away from Cerebrus influence, and Garrus and Tali were the only two I felt were trustworthy.
