Dagon Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 So if Bethesda will finally kill the brainless Interplay zombie (shoot Herve in the head!) Do you think that OBSIDIAN would be able to change it's name to Black Isle? It's still much more recognizable brand than Obsidian. It would also be nice to see new products with Black Isle logo.

Purkake Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 I don't think Black Isle is any more recognized than Obsidian these days. The only way to actually bring out the connection would be to name themselves "The guys who made Baldur's Gate 2, Planescape: Torment and Fallout".

Morgoth Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 "Black Isle, who?" most people will ask. The younger generation of gamers aren't familiar with the old work anymore. Rain makes everything better.
blankers Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 I think the Fallout 3 previews name dropped them breathlessly enough for enough gamers to know what's up. Sadly, I don't think anyone will be able to pry anything of value anymore from Herve's cold, dead grasp.
Ausir Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 If anything, I think it would make more sense for Brian Fargo's InXile to buy the name "Interplay". Pillars of Eternity Wiki * The Vault - Fallout Wiki * Wasteland 2 Wiki
Oner Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 If anything, I think it would make more sense for Brian Fargo's InXile to buy the name "Interplay".They're better off as InXile IMHO. Ausir Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 Thing is, Brian chose that name because he felt "in exile" from Interplay. And he seems like the kind of guy who would buy the name Interplay after Herve's IPLY is dead for nostalgia and poetic justice. Also, InXile doesn't have as much brand recognition yet as Obsidian, so adopting a fairly known (even if in decline) brand could help. Morgoth Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 Reminds me that Jason Anderson is working at InXile. I'm curious what they're up to. Rain makes everything better.
Gorgon Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 I thought this was about the black isle band Na na na na na na ... greg358 from Darksouls 3 PVP is a CHEATER. That is all.

Gorth Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 Obsidian needs to make a gazillion dollars on mainstream games, so they can buy the Black Isle brand and publish old school niche games for those who love turn based, isometric crpgs under that name “He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would surely suffice.” - Albert Einstein
Purkake Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 But once you go casual and make a gazillion dollars, what's the motivation to go back?

Nothing more thrilling to do than drunkenly laugh at your posts at 4am when every other bastard sod has long since turned in for the night.
