If you are a rules person than maybe, but rules always get in the way of players having fun and using their imagination. So far as my experience has shown. I have no issues with classes advancing slower faster than others did not bother me, no but losing experience for creating something does, clerics getting insta heal spells, no class restrictions.........I could go on and on

I have no proof of the extra amount of work it would take to implement all the feats/other rule changes in 3rd edition in a Crpg but I would imagine it's tough to do and have it work correctly. Aren't some of them still bugged after all these years (NWN2)

Could you please expand on the bolded part? Are you saying that removing class restrictions was somehow bad? It quite literally limits the roleplaying options for the players.

Newer games have more bugs because they have orders of magnitude more code and the development cycles are tighter these days. This has nothing to do with the rules system they are using, most of the bulk comes from graphics, AI, animations, etc. More code = more potential bugs.

It's a mechanic in place to ensure that your players don't just create stuff, sell it and become rich. It doesn't make any sense and you can house rule it away if you want to.

How did the item creation work in 2e?

Money and time spent, another good chance for the DM to have events pass as time goes by.

Yeah, lots of stuff doesn't work too well in 3.5e, but it was much much worse in 2e.

I understand that you have a connection with it, a lot of good things came out of it, Planescape for example, but it was seriously flawed.

Only if you have a ****ty DM, but that can be said for any rule set.

As someone that has tried to get their friends to play Baldur's gate and IWD, I know that it's very possible to be confused by the mechanics of AD&D in CRPG games.

This is all with people that have no experience with AD&D PnP (myself included).

I haven't played NWN2. MOTB is an expansion and I need NWN2 to play it even though the official site says you don't need to have played through NWN2 for MOTB? Is that right?

my 2cents = 3rd was better than 2nd edition. i even liked liked 1st edition AD&D more than 2nd edition.

im not sure how i feel about 4th yet i only played it once and wasnt very impressed.

Killing is kind of like playin' a basketball game. I am there. and the other player is there. and it's just the two of us. and I put the other player's body in my van. and I am the winner. - Nice Pete.

Yes. You need NWN2 installed to play MotB, but you don't need to have played it

Edit: It works sort of like BG2 and ToB. You can play ToB with imported/pre-generated characters, even though it technically is a continuation from BG2

It's still a bargain, SoZ is excellent.

Ah, Storm of ZOMGthisISmajorSUKAGE. Don't let them take your 5 bucks, man. With 5 bucks you can buy 5 items at the dollar store. Or even a Svirfneblin hooker. Honesty, the best part of the whole game was Shymon and Scarbunkel:

But great idea, going digital is the future.. it saves resources and money for both producer and consumer!

Can't agree with you on this one, it surely saves money for producer, but for me all 6 digital downloads i purchased unfortunately are not working anymore (due to servers taken down)... so they did not save a dime for me quite opposite...

Sounds like a trustworthy place...

I hope you aren't condemning the whole business model because you had one bad experience with some shady stuff from your country ;)

I'd never get anything DD from some local site, especially if it is DRM-d. That's pretty much common knowledge.

If i recall correctly, they had very good name (long time ago so my memory is fading on it), that's why i was not affraid to purchase at that time from them... and besides i don't see difference between German, UK, Slovak, USA, Burkina Faso or Cambodja DRM servers... they could be turned off anytime...

or you would call Yahoo as shady stuff aswell?

Of course, I would. Who the hell buys DRM-d music? That's just plain stupid. Get it from Amazon or some other DRM-free place.

We're talking about software here.

Don't give me that "you won't know until you have experienced it" BS. It might work for some things, but paying for something and then not being able to use it is not something unimaginable or even something that hasn't happened to most people.

I'd say there's quite a bit of difference between DRM-d software and DRM-d music/video, not the least of which being that you actually need a computer to use the software, while music/video can be experienced on a multitude of platforms(which DRM impedes BTW).

If I can get my software DRM free, I'll do it, but that is not the case most of the time. Especially with music, there's a lot more places where you can buy it DRM-free.

Also, what about stuff like Good Old Games that offers DRM-free unlimited downloads DD service? Is that unacceptable to you as well?

Obviously digital downloads may not be the best option right now, but it's not impossible for it to become so..

The most immediate pro is that you can always download the game, while if your cd/dvd breaks you have to buy a new one, the con being that the servers and companies from whom you get your DDs can go bankrupt as well.

Now this could be circumvented by having a failsafe, like free public run P2P'ish download service available.. In essence making what is today classified as piracy legal if you bought the game you are downloading. That way you would extent the life of the game considerable, until no-one had it on their hard-drive and no-one shared it. Companies could also provide a version which could be burned to a DVD and then saved and used for later times, thus giving you a further fail-safe..

That would be the ideal future of DD imo.

Fortune favors the bald.

Actually yes.

Especially when it's something that was particularly memorable, (positively or negatively).
