What are you playing now?

Still playing The Witcher, helping out the Order of the Flaming Rose wherever I can.

I deliberately failed Yaren Bolts quest to clear a way through the swamps for monsters and enjoyed his whining after all the lumber jacks left. He threatened to kill me if I approached him again. Unfortunately, I forgot to take him up on the offer, and he is now gone (I am in chapter 3). I helped Siegfried kick some elven and dwarven butt too. I also forgot to deal with one of the "real" problems of the brickmakers, no self respecting human should grovel in the mud and worship monsters, so the Vodyanoi (sp?) has it coming the next time I stop by. I helped Siegfried again during the bank robbery and made a killing (pun unintended) peddling back and forth between the underground battlefield and the armourer just around the corner from sewer entrance. Those elven blades are 300 orens a piece!!!

Stay in the house and use the rocket launcher.

I didn't like Crysis all that much, Farcry 1 was way more open and fun (until the mutants...). It's still a fun FPS with some cool gimmicks, also it's way more awesome if you make your own fun. Try rushing into an encampment and use strength to throw people around and jump on roofs, cloak is tons of fun as well.

Making your own fun is definitely the way to go. My favourite moment came from loading up a truck with explosive barrels, driving full speed toward a guard post and then ditching out at the last second so the momentum takes the truck into the building and blows it sky high. Then I ran past using speed and just opened a can of whoop ass on the entire base. :D

I thought the first half of Crsysis was pretty fun. I enjoyed the suits the weapons, the environment. MAybe not a classic game, but very very solid.

The second half was horrible though and I never finished the game,

Figures, Gorth, I'm helping the pointy eared freaks. What I really feel like saying, however, is a pox on both their houses. Rat bastards.

I did that in my first game. Helped "Have you hugged your favourite tree today" Yaevin (sp?) all the way through. Now I want to try the other side ;)

You didn't miss much, only an annoying spider-boss and a horrible cliffhanger.

Still, Farcry felt somehow larger, you could circle around the enemy base and snipe people or lure them into the jungle. Crysis seems to want you to just jump in and smash everything. And damn those insta-kill jeeps.

I thought Farcry was better overall. Though I thought that the suit was really cool and I enjoyed the Crysis take on weapon's more.

But the Farcry mercs were way more fun to fight than the soldiers in Crysis and the trigens were more fun less annoying than their counterparts in Crysis.

Actuaslly, I never thought I would use the words "Trigens" and "fun" in the same sentence. heh.

Well, I think that I'll join Aristes and Groth and play The Witcher again - that is until I get my copy of Mirror's Edge, then I'll be in that game. :)

EDIT: Oh yeah, I'm also playing Fallout 2.

inFamous

It's like Assassins Creed on speed with superpowers....

this is AWESOME!

I'm thinking about picking that up...I was hoping it would be like Crackdown.

It is to an extent. But it's also deeper and less tounge in cheek than crackdown from what I've seen.

You might have played it that way but it's not what the games "wants" you to do. Both Far Cry and Crysis allow you to go in guns blazing or take a stealthy approach. I actually think Crysis gave you more options when it came to stealth.

I also gave up on Crysis some time after entering the space ship. Some good moments up until that.

I think stealth would have worked better without the invisibility mode, you would just use that to the exclusion of anything else anyway. Even half a second would make the AI stop what it was doing.

Crysis is definently alot more fun if you go in the brave & stupid way. You need to infiltrate that base in the beginning? Steal a car, drive like hell and jump off a dock, kill everyone on the boats, steal boat, use the beach at the base as a giant ramp and fly smack into the base taking a tower and some destructible buildings with you.

Chaotic madness and destruction is the way to go :D

yeah, with the "invisibility" I usually would get up behind somebody only to have my invis drop and me get turned into swiss cheese.

And for those who got out before the alien ship? Be thankful you did. After the ship is a section where you have to lead your boss from hotspot to hotspot in order to keep him alive with his alien weapon.

But in the end you do get to use a tactical nuclear cannon on a space ship.

Crysis: Warhead is pretty sweet aswell, it runs smoother and it has some nice gameplay tweaks.

He's actually kid of indestructible and you dont actually have to carry him, the end of the level will trigger anyway. CryTek didnt want to force the player to do a boring escort thing, but they didnt fully follow through and inform the player about it

Yes, I think you are right, HK. I was able to stealth large portions of Crysis, staying under the heavy cover, evading the helicopters and never firing a shot. I don't recall stealth being nearly so useful or even possible in Farcry.

FOr me the single biggest downside of Crysis (besides the aliens) was that the soldiers really seemed like faceless cannon fodder vs the Farcry merc who seemed to actually have personaility.

Also, I think there were some more interesting levels in Farcry. IIRC it was a pretty long game with quite a variety in levels.

But I loved the extended tank battle in Crysis. That was awesome.

I'd love to do the speedboat thing in Crysis (why didn't I spot that - it's obvious now you mention it) but, honestly, I'm crap at these twitchy games.

All of a sudden I'm thinking of digging Silent Storm out of the loft instead.

None of the "twitchy" games are really hard these days. Have you tried playing it on easy?

Also, I wasn't saying that you can't use stealth in Crysis, I just felt that it was a lot more fun to rush in a beat people up instead of sniping them from miles away which was a lot more fun in Farcry.

I didn't really like the tank on tank level because they kept blowing my tank up all the time and I had to limp around looking for C4 and rockets. And what's up with the enemies that have the same suits that you do, they were incredibly annoying.

All this talk about Crysis makes me want to go back through and try the guns blazing, smash and grab approach through the entire game. I spent 90% of my first play through using stealth. Moving from hiding spot to hiding spot while waiting for the suit to charge. Also, the ability to jump over most outdoor walls was very helpful. Why sneak in the front gate, when you could go around back and jump over the wall, entering undetected in half the time?

It was pretty amusing grabbing soldiers and throwing them off of buildings and through walls and stuff.

UPDATE - Crysis is the first game I've ever uninstalled because I was getting too addicted to it.

I have discovered, relatively late in life, that I am in fact a FPS crack-fiend. Nooooooo!

Also, for some reason I have this almost overwhelming urge to play Doom2. Will check out Farcry, I really like the idea of sniping. For some reason the SCAR rifle in Crysis with scope was a terrible sniping weapon.

Crysis addicting? hah! You are weak, little man, weak!

Doom 1/2 are still awesome, there is also a great homebrew version for the DS. The SCAR probably sucks for sniping because there is a real sniper in the game as well.

lol. That's fab.

Farcry is pretty fun. Graphics that were awesome once are only so-so now.

If you want another recommendation for shooters: I highly recommend STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl.

It can be quite buggy in places and the story is sonmewhat indecipherable and 90% of the dialogue is Ukrainian or RUssian or whatever.

But it is still an awesome fps. Its atmosphere is unmatched.

I especially like the parts where rifle bullets drop as fast as if you were throwing them and the save-corrupting bugs really made my day.

The atmosphere was pretty cool, though.
