Arkan Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 Anybody else watching this show? I think it's great so far. Could be my replacement for Battlestar Galactica. Thoughts? "Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger." - Herman Goering at the Nuremberg trials "I have also been slowly coming to the realisation that knowledge and happiness are not necessarily coincident, and quite often mutually exclusive" - meta
Guard Dog Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 The premise sounds interesting but I missed the first two show. I'll probably wait for the DVD. I'm really lousy about watching shows on a weekly basis. Battlestar was about the only exception. Arkan Posted March 24, 2009 Author Posted March 24, 2009 They're on Hulu.com right now, I think. Kings is in a terrible timeslot on Sunday at 8pm. They're hurting for ratings, which sucks, because it is/could be such a great show. "Of course the people don't want war. Hurlshort Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Regular TV with commercials? No thank you! I agree. That's what torrents are for. That's called piracy, but I guess if you are morally bankrupt, go right ahead. That sense of entitlement you have must be justified in some way. I think the best way to avoid commercials is to get a Tivo.

I think the best way to avoid commercials is to get a Tivo. Would torrenting a television show really be pirating? The show itself is freely broadcast on television so thats not where the stations make money (which is made in selling advertising on the show) and its not taking money from the producers as they are already paid by the networks. So, who loses in torrenting a television show? "I'm your biggest fan, Ill follow you until you love me, Papa"

So, who loses in torrenting a television show? Yep, it's still pirating even on free to air TV. I made a thread about this some time ago. The biggest amount of pirated downloads is not music, movies or video games - it's TV Shows.

From people's reviews on imdb, I'll definitely watch this and make a comment next week after watching the first few episodes.

And how is recording the show on your tivo any less stealing than downloading it off the internet? Both ways result in having a watcheable copy of the show on your hardrive, and both result in the same loss of revenue for the network due to lost advertising time. Guard Dog Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 It's not piracy to view or even copy freely available content for personal use. Now if you tried to sell it, charge people to view it (assuming you are not the license owner), or present it as your own creation that is a horse of another color. In reality there is little to fear from prosecution if you did say offer up Kings Episode One for sale. Most places like ebay and craigslist will just take your listing down if they caught you. theslug Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 Watching the first episode now. The part where the large imposing black man gingerly wipes a smudge off a young white boys face in an awkwardly long and silent moment was quite overtly homosexual in my opinion. And that scares me. Other than that it seems like it could have potential but I'm not even a quarter way through the ep yet so that could change. I'll let you guys know how to goes and make sure to report on any man rape that could occur which through my intensive statistical analysis I'm calculating at least a 37% chance. There was a time when I questioned the ability for the schizoid to ever experience genuine happiness, at the very least for a prolonged segment of time. I am no closer to finding the answer, however, it has become apparent that contentment is certainly a realizable goal. I find these results to be adequate, if not pleasing. Unfortunately, connection is another subject entirely. When one has sufficiently examined the mind and their emotional constructs, connection can be easily imitated. More data must be gleaned and further collated before a sufficient judgment can be reached.
Rosbjerg Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 This thread isn't about piracy, so let's stick to discussing the show. Unfortunately Kings isn't available in my country, so I have no way of watching it, but it sounds really cool. Are there any online sites where you can pay to watch Kings online (from anywhere in the world)? Because there are alot of American TV shows that we don't get here. Fortune favors the bald.

Rosbjerg Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 Hulu isn't available in Denmark, but I'll check out NBCs page later (it wouldn't load just now).. Does the story follow the original one (within reason, seeing as it is set in modern times) or are they just using the very basic elements (Goliath, a king, David and a kingdom) Fortune favors the bald.
Kaftan Barlast Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 My friend who sees everything says the show is rubbish except for the guy from "Hot Rod" who played Rods dad. The only problem is that you generally have to pay for access to a fast and proper proxy DISCLAIMER: Do not take what I write seriously unless it is clearly and in no uncertain terms, declared by me to be meant in a serious and non-humoristic manner. World of Darkness News http://www.wodnews.net --- "I cannot profess to be a theologian; but it seems to me that Christians who believe in a super human Satan have got themselves into a logical impasse with regard to their own religion. For either God can not prevent the mischief of Satan, in which case he is not omnipotent; or else He could do so if he wished, but will not, in which case He is not benevolent. Fortunately, being a pagan witch, I am not called upon to solve this problem." - Doreen Valiente
