I thought Tiberium was a decent idea, with some hope for a nice execution.

While acknowledging that the name of this forum is "Speculation and Discussion", just keep in mind that news obtained from sources other than Sega or Obsidian should probably be taken with various amounts of salt.

Well Mr. P&R man why don't you fill in on the details if this is yet another canceled Obs game or not.

I heard about this rumor and the letting go of Obsidian staff. Set the record straight.

um , that link does nothing but solidify the fact that the game is canned and the reason nobody is allowed to talk about it is because sega has not written its bullsh!t PR letter telling everyone "its okay guys , we totally have AVP 3 coming instead o:) "

Let's wish them well in these difficult times then, and hope the best for their other projects.

So... they're stealing the work they've already done?

Come on, even EA isn't this evil.

Interesting how you got "solidify the fact" out of reading that piece of text. What do you get when reading this? :-

Or was it because that they didn't mention Aliens RPG specifically? Which they haven't really been able to tell anything (besides that it is tyte) about for the past 730+ days?

LMFAO, EA most certainly IS that evil.

I came up with Crate 3.0 technology.

Crate 4.0 - we shall just have to wait and see.

EA are fine in my book since they stopped slaughtering great studios (Bullfrog, Westwood and so on) and since they started focusing more on new interesting IP such as mirrors edge and dead space.

Dead Space is a solid game, theres a lot of good stuff about it. Just wish they would have waited a bit to show what happened when the humans began to change into Necromorphs.

I guess they needed some material for the sequel.

The prequel is presented in an animated form. Look it up.

Actually I agree with this, the reason developers never talk to you is because crap changes and they don't want to give you faulse info... So even though I promise you what I have been told is not a lie (take it or leave it) things can change so take what I've said as 'the closest thing to truth but not set in stone'... Because if something changes I don't want to be attacked, lol.

To recap what I've heard:

1) Aliens RPG, suspended not canned.

2) Alpha Protocol getting full attention right now, is looking good.

3) I don't know much about Gearbox/Alien: CM, Sega don't want to can it though.

Thx for the info Ryan, I can understand now the position Sega is in, I'm surprised they dont push their developers more though to stay on target. One question, does Fox have a say in anything? Like what direction a story goes, etc.

What's fun about Dead Space is it doesn't end in a way that screams "BUY THE SEQUEL PLZ". It feels complete.

Also, it was originally planned for the first XboX. That's how long the game was in development.

The end of dead space is exactly the same as Alien. In both i was screaming I wanna buy the sequel plz! It doesn't feels complete at all. Also it doesn't seems commercial if that's what you mean

i thought some of the visuals in deadspace were awsome. like that big open room with the big widows showing outer space was mind blowing! i'll buy the sequel for sure. i'm planning on watching the animated story soon.

lets pray for acid rain that tomorrow will be a day of new information regarding the rpg and the fps!

So, Aliens is now dead. Some how I knew this would happen. Obsidian is the Joss Whedon of the Gaming Industry.

They're DEAD! Alright? Can I go now?

If I'm an ass, I should say so. If I don't, somebody else will. If I say it first, that disarms them.

Lol they have been Dead since Alien resurrection

One question, does Fox have a say in anything? Like what direction a story goes, etc.

I doubt it. Sega owns the license entirely now, doesn't it?

I doubt Sega owns the rights entirely. The rights to make video games yes, but I bet Fox still have a say in what goes and what goes not if it in any way involves things considered "canon". I wouldn't be surprised if they had to propose the story lines etc. to Fox to get it greenlighted first.

Yeah most likely there's someone at Fox who approves things in a general sense. And most licensing clauses I've heard of contain some form of "good stewardship" wording, such that the license owner can force the licensee to change things if they're doing something that the license owner thinks isn't in the best interest of their license.

Best example I can think of that is the 1980s Andy Helfer/Kyle Baker Shadow series that Conde Nast canned when they realized that they had a beheaded Shadow on a robot body trying to kill an incredibly aged Shiwan Khan (or something to that effect). Conde Nast forced DC to cancel that comic and put out a Shadow book more in line with the pulp character (they also forced them to change the not-yet-published Doc Savage mini which was going to cast Doc as a hard-boild native american private eye...)

Of course a licensee should be able to point AvP2 out to Fox as an example that they'd be hard pressed to do anything worse with the license... :p

I cannot - yet I must. How do you calculate that? At what point on the graph do "must" and "cannot" meet? Yet I must - but I cannot! ~ Ro-Man

Sawyer, give us more info! Don't be a hater!
