Those were interesting. Thanks, Krezzie.

Np.

Its funny that they both blame the Microsoft PR machine for fostering the impression that pc gaming is dead.

It's a relatively minor point in both articles, though.

Otoh, Valve and Blizzard are really the only 2 pc-centric games companies doing well at the moment. ANd both those interviews were from Valve people, so, hmmm.

Because those articles only talk about Valve and Blizzard, you conclude Valve and Blizzard are the only two companies making money off PC gaming? Come on...

I think it's more like "the only two companies raking in piles of cash are Valve and Blizzard."

PC's dead... again? *looks at his watch* That makes about the 10th time the console industry has said that since I have been alive.

Fact is its overall cheaper to be a PC gamer then a console these days, the myth its more expensive is just that... a myth. For example...

Newegg.com:

CPU - AMD Dual-core, 2.1GHz 65W ($59.99)

Motherboard - ASUS, 8GB DDR2 1066, 2600MHz ($99.99)

Hard Drive - 500GB Seagate, 32MB Cache ($119.99)

Power Supply - 600W, Cooler Master ($34.99)

Case - Cooler Master ($34.99)

RAM - Patriot gaming, 2GB ($26.99)

Grand total: $376.94. 500 gigs of space and it will do other things than just gaming. If you're interested in extremely high-end gaming:

Video Card - eVGA 512MB 256-bit ($239.99)

Or if you just want games to run but don't require them to blow your mind:

Video Card - eVGA 256MB 128-bit ($37.99)

Grand Total (with insane video card): $616.93

Grand Total (with normal video card): $414.93

I'm confused. How is this so much more expensive than when the PS3 debuted at $599.99? And if I'm not mistaken, that machine only provided 80 gigs, not to mention a fraction of the library PC gaming provides.

Moving on from yet another doom and gloom PC is dead drama thread.. heh

Consoles have existed for 30 years, and I dont think they will disapear until PCs become so cheap and easy to use that there is no way to justify paying for something thats just a toy.

Nintendo will rule them all.

Yes, just like SEGA. :p

Just like the ED-209, it was a small glitch, a temporary setback only :p

Haven't we been told for the last 2 years that PC gaming is dead (REALLY dead this time)?

Not really. Did you happen to read that article by Valve's main guy where he explains that it's a myth?

Gabe Newell explains why PC gaming is the future: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/valve-wh...-future-article

Doug Lombardi further discredits "the PC is dead" claims: http://www.shacknews.com/featuredarticle.x?id=873

Gabe Nevell have to say that PC-gaming ios not dead :p His income depends on PC-gaming :p

Anyway i never said PC gaming is dead and tbh i don't think so. But i just think with all the DRM and limited activations lot of people (be it significant or unsignificant number i dont know) are turning to consoles. And besides his saying the Steam can combat piracy, is same myth as saying SecuROM can combat piracy, you just need to get one application and you can just play any Steam-only game if you want... You will be unable to update it (afaik that can be solved aswell but not 100% sure about it), but people who DL pirated games most of the time do not care about newest updates.

High-end PCs now are 12x faster than current gen consoles, and probably still faster than any next-gen console

Yes they are, but they cost at least 3x-10X the price of a console... If you would have wife, mortgage on house and two small children you would reconsider every single $ to release from your grasp :p

The machine posted by Rhomal is not a high end PC, and same PC setup if not homemade, would cost you much much more... Only enthusiasists and people who has technical friends are building their own PCs... all others just buy Dell, HP, whatever vendorbuild machines with Intel IGP and are then confused why they new games are running slow... And enthusiasists do not buy PC for $600... I never ever purchased PC under 1500 EUR and every single PC i ever bought was made by myself...

You are saying the above example can not play modern games? You do NOT need bleeding edge tech to play modern games, this is 2009 not 1999

As far as my box its a AMD X2 5200+ w/ a 8800GT video card with 2gig RAM. Look up those prices and I play everything to max to near max levels. *shrugs*

With that said you make it sound like building your own box is some massive task, it a lot easier then most people think. But yes they do buy mostly premade systems, all one needs to do in that case is upgrade the video card and most of todays systems out of the box have a good CPU and ram to play games. Assuming you didn't buy a bottom level e-machine level of such box.

Of course you can play assasin's creed and crysis on current hardware with decent setting, but were you able to play it in decent settings when they came out? And can you play them with everything on max or near max levels on your laptop? (That means with Antialiasing 16x16 turned on 1680x1050 with all DX10 stuff enabled)

NO! (That was the point of my post, if you did not got it.)

I ran it in DX10 mode with some AA, I cannot remember the amount as I was borrowing the game and has been awhile -it might have been 10 or 12-, at 1280x800 - that's the max this laptop's screen will go resolution-wise. :p
