I'm a huge Alien/Aliens fan and love playing the odd rpg. Just wondering if there is any news, or when are we gonna here some news/screenshots? This game sounds like a dream come true for me. Here's hoping you're making a damn good game.

If I may draw my learned friend's attention to this statement by the designers:

It's fairly easy to find another voice actor. How many people even remember what she sounds like? How many people would care if she sounded different? How many people have even seen Aliens?

I also wonder if Weaver has the power to forbid the use of her likeness.

No doubt they could find a competent VA for the Ripley character, and the lack of Sigourney Weaver won't ruin the game or anything. But Ripley is an iconic character, like it or not.

I remember when the Godfather game came out. Al Pacino has always been picky about what he's featured in, and he was the only principal actor from the film to not appear in the game. Neither his voice nor his likeness was used. All things considered EA Redwood Studios did an excellent job adapting the Michael Corleone character, bringing his looks away from Pacino's dark italian features and increasing the resemblance to James Caan (making the hair redder and curlier, etc.) and getting a pretty good VA. But people still noticed that it wasn't Al Pacino, and a lot of people were annoyed by the absence of the film's central character as they knew him. The same thing could very easily happen with Aliens.

A whole lot of people. The vast majority of people in the market for this game, certainly. Alien is a common favorite among casual horror fans. Aliens is definitely in the pantheon of action films.

But that's all beside the point. We can reasonably assume that people won't play this game in a vacuum, and that they know who Sigourney Weaver is. One thing you have to take into account is the propensity of people to associate faces with voices. We haven't yet seen how the Onyx engine looks, but I expect that it can render a Ripley character that is recognizable as Sigourney Weaver, from a visual standpoint. I think it will be easy for a person familiar with Aliens to see a digital recreation of Sigourney Weaver and experience cognitive dissonance when the voice doesn't match the person's memory of Weaver's voice. I and all my friends recognized her voice when she played the ship computer in Wall-E. In my earlier post I referenced Khelgar Ironfist. I played through NWN2 not that many times, certainly less times than your average Aliens player has seen Aliens. but I know what Khelgar Ironfist sounds like. The first line of his in SoZ I felt the wrongness of an imitation. Don't underestimate the public. They'll notice, and depending on how petty they are they might hold it against Obsidian that the face of Aliens isn't really being represented.

OM NOM NOM NOM NOM.

Gawd. Why is there still no news for Aliens yet?

Sigourney Weaver got no interest to lend her voice in Aliens. Click

I wonder if she heard of the RPG at least? But more likely, Obsidian just hasn't had any plans to include her in the game.

Probably meant the Alien Resurrection game that was released in PS1 years ago. Gearbox's Aliens takes place shortly after Alien 3, which means there is no role for Ripley at all.

I wish we could just get a screen cap or something. That could keep us occupied for weeks!

Frankly I don't want to see her in the game anyway... I'm tired of Riply she doesnt have to be in everything...

No, but the new characters need to at least be as memorable as she was. This is a big challenge for Obsidian, and I congradulate them for being up to the challenge.

RE: News:

We and SEGA will talk about the game when "it's time" to do so. I know that's annoying, but things shift around a lot during game development, especially with new technology. It's better for us and end users if we talk about the game when it's further in development. It helps avoid disappointment and confusion.

Alright, thanks. So the thing I asked you should wait I guess? Or are there any things that are for certain that you wouldn't mind sharing?

- Thanks.,

It would be nice at least to put up a teaser site with some screenshots, artworks and a short summary. Nothing too fancy, no actual full announcement. Just something to chew on a bit.

I agree. We should have something to think about, debate about. I think it could help with the developement by hearing what customers would want.

Watched Alien today. Hilarious costume.

"Alright, I've been thinking. When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade - make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don't want your damn lemons, what am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life's manager. Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons. Do you know who I am? I'm the man who's gonna burn your house down! With the lemons. I'm going to to get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!"

Didn't he give the "official standing" just before, though? :ermm:

I suspect that Aliens is a bit farther away than AP, and neither Sega nor Obsidian are looking to really do anything on the PR side yet. It's just nice that the devs are around to, uh, not tell us anything. But that will change when someone gets around to hiring Lithuanian hitmen.

Yes, he did. BUT, I was posting that to see when and what any new* news will bring. I was hoping for news, but I guess that will come in time.

Your remarks are considerate and well balanced. We will kill you painfully for this.

Re: Using a different VA for a Ripley chr - personally, I wouldn't care. I'm sure I'd notice it wasn't Ms. Weaver, but as long as it was well voiced, doesn't matter to me.

Re: "We and SEGA will talk about the game when "it's time" to do so. I know that's annoying," - perfectly understandable. Never declare the color of your chickens before they're born. Or something.

Still gaming with my 9900k/2080ti/32 ram. One day I suppose a game may inspire me to finally upgrade. Maybe.
