I successfully installed and I'm playing one of the new added quests. Its pretty good so far, though I can't really see any new gestures and stuff.

I'll have to start a new game and see how much dialog has been added.

I'm about half-way through chapter 1 and I can tell there been quite a bit of change, but it is pretty subtle, an extra line here and there, some slight re-translations. It makes the game seem a lot less disjointed.

I've just installed the expanded edition patch, after letting it download through the night, and started a new game. I'm already impressed with the faster load/save times. Saved at the earliest point I could, so am barely into the game, and now I have to work. Day off tomorrow though, good thing I have no other plans.

I took this job because I thought you were just a legend. Just a story. A story to scare little kids. But you're the real deal. The demon who dares to challenge God.

So what the hell do you want? Don't seem to me like you're out to make this stinkin' world a better place. Why you gotta kill all my men? Why you gotta kill me?

Nothing personal. It's just revenge.

I'm installing the patch right now with all language packs. I can't wait to give it a go in French. The way Geralt acts around women it will be like playing a Pepe Le Pew RPG.

I'm going to install the 1.4 patch over my copy of the Enhanced Edition -if that's possible, I have yet to hear it is not though- as the downloadable patch removes the DVD-check from the game. At the moment I've got all of 33% done but I'll be sure to post more information once I get the entire fix. ;)

I thought 1.4 patch = enhanced edition?

Not exactly, evidently the download contains the blood fix and a no-dvd patch. ;)

Yes it does. Another reason I love CD Projeckt.

Playing a new game with Polish voiceovers and English text. This is one beautiful game. I don't think I've seen a more prettier game that uses 3d graphics yets looks so gritty and real.

Like STALKER the game has a nice sense of atmosphere to it. It seems for whatever reason that European developers seem to be better at that sort of thing than US developers. Hopefully Bethesda has captured some of the same in Fallout 3.

Seperate adventures. I haven't tried them so I can't say if they're good but they do sound interesting:

Price of Neutrality = Difficult choice like the ones in the OC but contained to the module and its short playtime.

The other one is about raising money through sidequests and there is supposed to be a lot of choice. I imagine it to be somewhat like raising the 15000 in BG2 or something.

A friend of mine got it, he said it was decent but the quests were very generic and dull in the beginning, is that true?

The prologue is really just a tutorial, although it sets up the plot.

Chapter 1 is a bit bland in terms of the content of the quests, but no more so than BG or Arcanum or Fallout. Once you get into the city in chapter 2, things become more complex.

Let me just add, that it is still just a crpg and it is hardly a world beater in terms of writing and stuff.

Its better than Oblivion though.

There are a lot of quests where you have to collect so many of whatever items, but these are mostly optional, but they are good source of loot and experience. Also they provide raw materials for your potions, which are a must if you play on the hardest difficulty.

I would agree that a lot of the quests aren't that exciting, but for me it was the visual atmosphere and the combat that was great. some people will disagree on the combat, but I liked that you had to pay attention to your sword swings to continue more devastating moves, switch styles on the fly as you battled different opponents and dodge and position so as not to get surrounded. The magic was also fun to use. I especially liked the Aard sign simply because it blew away your opponents. Igni was also useful for some of the tougher monsters.

There are a lot of choices to be made while in the game and I liked those. It didn't feel as though there was a good/evil choice. It was just a matter of how you looked at things. I think the devs did a good job in that respect.

I'm also interested in the story and how it will unfold. I haven't read any of the Witcher novels, but according to Wiki, the game takes place after the last book in the series where Geralt is witnessed getting killed by an angry mob. Naturally, this brings up questions on where he was during that death and when he re-appeared in the game. Seeing the game's ending, it looks like someone might have held him captive and studied his physiology.

I think this will present a nice opportunity for the devs and the author, Andrej Sapkowski, to collaborate and create a nice story which takes us into a conspiracy to destroy the Witchers.

There is a community mod out called Deception. Here is the link.

I haven't tried it yet, but looks interesting. I'm glad there is so much support for this game as I would like another Witcher game that takes us to other places in the setting.

I just finished chapter 2 and the whole thing played out very differently than when I played it before. End result was the same, but getting there was quite different. Main quest only of course. Side quests were all the same. I hadn't realized that the game was quite that flexible.

I thought the combat was a lost opportunity. Just allowing style and magic combos would have made the combat a lot deeper and more engaging. Also, synergies between potion effects and styles used, would have been great. Like drunken fighting, for example.

It's probably antithetical to the setting, but the Witcher was crying for either a lot more magic or gadgetry. Imagine applying the specific 'hands-on visceral' approach they took to sword combat to that. Magic which involves not just throwing one damage spell after another, but creating synergistic effects (soak in water, which slows them, but then you can also use lightning, etc). Or just a lot more gadgetry in the Thief vein. They probably felt it was already too much with a very engaging sword fight system and potions, I guess. But god, I wanted to use a bow with that mechanism.

There already is drunken fighting, you simply take the right feat and get drunk... >_<

I still haven't really figured out how the fistfighting works. Even after all the playing I've done of this game. That part feels broken. Or at least extremely unintuituve. I just stand there and beat on the guy and eventually he falls down. The manual seems to indicate that there should be more to the process than that. I like the animations though.

Yes, but not like that. I'm not just talking about a feat that affects your stats. I'm talking about getting drunk affecting the way you inflict damage, and how many enemies you can handle. For example, if your fighting drunk against one enemy it would allow your unpredictable movements to inflict more damage, but with less accuracy, while doing more damage. There could be a synergy between alcohol and strong style. However if you were to fight drunk in group style against a bunch of enemies, it would originate huge penalties due to your lowered reflexes.

quick question: is there actually any additional areas or story in the enhanced edition? or is it just enhanced in other ways?

Enhanced in other ways, the most notable of which is that the dialogue was rerecorded.
