Ivan the Terrible Posted July 6, 2004 Posted July 6, 2004 Wait....you can get PAID to play games?!! :D Where the hell do I sign up gawdammit!!! The last words of many an unwitting Q&A person. I made this half-pony half-monkey monster to please you But I get the feeling that you don't like it What's with all the screaming? You like monkeys, you like ponies Maybe you don't like monsters so much Maybe I used too many monkeys Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you?
EnderAndrew Posted July 7, 2004 Posted July 7, 2004 I watched a special on CNN on LucasArt's playtesters. They didn't make any real money to speak of, and they work out of Marin County I do believe.
uncdeez Posted July 7, 2004 Posted July 7, 2004 I don't know if anyone has said this because this thread a several months old now, but I think Lucasarts is handling the QA for KotOR 2. I don't think Obsidian is big enough to have it's own QA department yet.

I don't think Obsidian is big enough to have it's own QA department yet. That's why I mentioned LucasArt's playtesters. If you want to playtest KoTOR:TSL, you'd have to move to Marin County (where it is quite expensive to live) and work for peanuts.

If you want to playtest KoTOR:TSL, you'd have to move to Marin County (where it is quite expensive to live) and work for peanuts. Our QA is being handled at Lucas Arts. And as of last week we also have 5 people on site at our office provided by Lucas arts for QAing purposes. -Akari
EnderAndrew Posted July 8, 2004 Posted July 8, 2004 So they can be in Orange County and work for peanuts? That's an improvement. They get better weather, and a SLIGHTLY cheaper cost of living in Irvine.
John Morgan Posted July 8, 2004 Posted July 8, 2004 And as of last week we also have 5 people on site at our office We do? OOOOOOh, I wondered who those people outside my office were... SiO2
EnderAndrew Posted July 8, 2004 Posted July 8, 2004 They were protestors complaining about no-pants fridays! You guys should seriously consider investing in blinds!
John Morgan Posted July 8, 2004 Posted July 8, 2004 They were protestors complaining about no-pants fridays! You guys should seriously consider investing in blinds! Fridays? SiO2
EnderAndrew Posted July 8, 2004 Posted July 8, 2004 You're missing all the memos. You do get your paychecks, right?
Phoenix19-15-5 Posted July 8, 2004 Posted July 8, 2004 You're missing all the memos. You do get your paychecks, right? He works for peanuts too.
Alexia Posted July 8, 2004 Posted July 8, 2004 Peanuts can taste nice. Le donne sono da venus, la scopata sa dove sono gli uomini da. For a different kind of Kotor chat
John Morgan Posted July 8, 2004 Posted July 8, 2004 I meant that the "no pants" rule isn't just a Friday thing. SiO2
Aurora Posted July 10, 2004 Author Posted July 10, 2004 I WILL KILL YOUR QA WORKERS AND STEAL THEIR JOBS. I am following my fish. A temporary home for stranded ML'ers
EnderAndrew Posted July 12, 2004 Posted July 12, 2004 I miss steakhouses that would allow you to take a bucket of peanuts, and throw the shells on the ground like the crude beasts we are.
DemonKing Posted July 12, 2004 Posted July 12, 2004 I want a QA job with Atari - I can't think of anything better than being paid to sit on my butt all day and do absolutely nothing. B) I might have trouble getting another job in the industry though if anyone sees TOEE or Driver 3 on my resume.
EnderAndrew Posted July 12, 2004 Posted July 12, 2004 I imagine doing Q&A work is slightly different from the way you'd normally play a game. Perhaps you save your game every opportunity you can, and then from each save, try every option and branch that you can.
Aaron Contreras Posted July 14, 2004 Posted July 14, 2004 I imagine doing Q&A work is slightly different from the way you'd normally play a game. Perhaps you save your game every opportunity you can, and then from each save, try every option and branch that you can. QA (no &) testing usually doesn't have much in common with actually playing a game. Even when playtesting you are often focusing on a particular area, class, race or skill inside the game. The job varies from company to company, with some placing more emphasis on checklists and others on playtesting. I really think some internal Obsidian testers who didn't work for Lucasarts would contribute to the project. I say that entirely out of self-interest and ambition. Can you *really* trust 'em? They work for the Man.

Raven Posted July 21, 2004 Posted July 21, 2004 QA would be a neat job, but its not really a job..... most people would do it for free!
JohnPnP Posted July 21, 2004 Posted July 21, 2004 I find it funny that there are 5 pages of posts and 2 dev responses... Mayhaps this is a hint?
Whitemithrandir Posted July 21, 2004 Posted July 21, 2004 OMG I JUST GOT YOUR EMAIL!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!! Thanks for hiring me Obsidian!
